I love the Judge.
Thank God... she was able to see it.
...and Andrew Jackson was impeached. Let’s keep the similarities going.
Sorry - I read it as ‘Janet’ of Homeland Security. That would be a blessing - and remarkable. But too much to hope for...
FDR tried to pack the court.....
That was Andrew Johnson
Andrew Jackson eliminated the Federal Bank and created an era named after him.
“...and Andrew Jackson was impeached. Lets keep the similarities going.”
Wrong Andy, but OK.
Let’s impeach the fraud.
Get the “Discuss anything BUT the birth certificate” “freepers” angry.
From Page xv of "Our Ageless Constitution," allow me to include here excerpted words from President Andrew Jackson's Proclamation of December 10, 1832:
"We have received it [the Constitution] as the work of the assembled wisdom of the nation. We have trusted to it as to the sheet anchor of our safety in the stormy times of conflict with a foreign or domestic foe. We have looked to it with sacred awe as the palladium of our liberties, and with all the solemnities of religion have pledged to each other our lives and fortunes here and our hopes of happiness hereafter in its defense and support. Were we mistaken, my countrymen, in attaching this importance to the Constitution . . .? No. We were not mistaken. The letter of this great instrument is free from this radical fault. . . . No, we did not err! . . . The sages . . . have given us a practical and, as they hoped, a permanent* Constitutional compact. . . . The Constitution is still the object of our reverence, the bond of our Union, our defense in danger, the source of our prosperity in peace: it shall descend, as we have received it, uncorrupted by sophistical construction, to our posterity. . . ."
*Underlining added for emphasis
And, it was Thomas Jefferson who used another metaphor with reference to the Constitution when he indicated that "the People" must "bind them (government) by the chains of the Constitution." In another instance, he declared: "It was intended to lace them up straitly within the enumerated powers. . . ."
andrew JOHNSON was impeached. jackson was a lot earlier
You may be thinking of Andrew Johnson, not Jackson.
Finally got this to work:
True, but at least FDR was making a token effort to work with the Constitution. This "Constitutional Lawyer" infesting the White House now just wants to tear it up and start again with "Me, the Supreme and all-powerful One..."
George Lucas inadvertently wrote a character based on Obama in the "Star Wars" saga... Senator Palpatine!
Obama is speaking right now.
he is so far off, out of touch it is stunning.
For those who are young and don’t need or want to buy insurance, it’s our job to see they meet their responsiblity!
“We have trusted to it as to the sheet anchor of our safety in the stormy times of conflict -—”
Noted the term “sheet anchor” used in Jackson’s quote and wonder if someone can explain it to me as I think it has to do with (Sailing and sails being anchored /cleated when in stormy times). Sails= sheets.
Thanks to anyone!
all our TV’s are OFF..
FReepmail me to subscribe to or unsubscribe from the SCOTUS ping list.
And Obama didn't?
Video will not play at either site.
Buckwheat is laying the groundwork to completely defy the orders of SCOTUS, after they declare Obamacare unconstitutional.
“Andrew Jackson was devoted to the U. S. Constitution...”
...except for that pesky Florida thing (i.e. invading another country without congressional authorization).
Oh, and that Trail of Tears/2nd Seminole War thing that I heard about somewhere (i.e. waging war to enforce the “voluntary” relocation of indians).
But other than that....
Given the hate talk from our President..I think that SCOTUS needs Secret Service Protection. There are some real hot heads on the left that might be looking at giving this President the chance to pick another Judge real soon.
Napolitano got it wrong.
FDR threatened the same way and said he would add three liberal justices to make it 12 unless they voted for his side.
There was a switch by one Judge, hence the “Switch in Time Saved Nine”.
Andrew Jackson was of his time and could of stopped the Civil War before it started. He was humble and said it was not his place. Abraham L. was one the one that ended the Jackson USA and started the FDR USA. Privatization and personal determination was what Jackson brought to the USA. He only did what the nation needed at the time. Otherwise people would of killed all the native americans.
You are thinking of Andrew Johnson. Lincoln’s second VP and successor. Jackson served forty years earlier. And the most recent example of a president defying the USSC was FDR. He failed but was in office long enough to alter the court to his liking through attrition and replacement of justices. That all being said, Obama’s remarks are another indication that he sees himself as a Caesar. If he did not have the mob behind him, as did Julius, it would be laughable and pathetic.
I believe a sheet anchor is an emergency anchor. Like something to use when all else fails.
Of course, we are both too lazy to look it up.
I love the judge but he needs to look at the SCOTUS wars FDR had....
Think again....... Jackson was not impeached.
He was President, not head .....r
Same thing as a sea anchor, a device intended to keep a ship's bow into the wind during a storm. A "sheet anchor" is jury rigged using a sail.
“I think that SCOTUS needs Secret Service Protection.”
You may be right. It is wrong to wage a political campaign again the court. They are supposed to be revoved from the pressure.
Same with this family - no audio or video. Can stand listening to someone who is deliberately lying.
“Andrew Jackson was of his time...”
So it’s ok to breach the constutition because you are ‘of your time’?
Your Lincoln fixation is common enough around here, so maybe you can explain how President Jackson can be “of his time...”, but President Lincoln cannot?
After all, if the “He only did what the nation needed at the time.” is your rationality, why don’t you apply it to all presidents, instead of selectively like you do?
I’m not taking anything away from President Jackson, simply trying to be honest about his actions. Presidents are complex figures, after all. Often, our pre-conceived political notions run up against their pragmatic actions.
The Sheet Anchor
Here’s a term you don’t hear much anymore, but which has its keel laid firmly in 19th century seamanship. This is one of those seaman’s terms that grew to have a double meaning, one practical and the other symbolic.
The practical meaning of sheet anchor is a reference to the main anchor, the biggest and heaviest of the ground tackle available. This was the anchor of choice when the wind was blowing hard and the seas were heavy and the ship just had to be secure. Lowering the sheet anchor required nearly all the crew at the windlass, and demanded a heavy load of chain to be payed out. Setting this anchor was a big job, but worth the trouble to safely ride out a storm.
How interesting that the term should spring to mind when describing a booklet for young sea officers. These educated lads came on board with no practical knowledge of the workings of a sailing ship with all its complicated lines and halyards, sheets and blocks, knots and hitches, compass directions, rules of the road...it was all new to them, and they had to learn it all quickly.
So the ship owners came up with booklets that would give these ensigns a fast, practical understanding of how the ship works. Why sheet anchor? Probably they decided on that term because the booklet was an encyclopedia of reliable information which would keep the young officers from drifting. Whenever they needed help, they could pull out their sheet anchor.

.." the courts have the right to review what the Congress does and what the President does and if the court finds that behavior unconstitutional, they can.. void, they can invalidate ...what the Congress and the what the President does. ....Thats our system. ....Thats what preserves the Constitution against the tyranny of the majority..... No president has questioned this since Andrew Jackson!
Thats why we have a life tenured independent judiciary so that it cannot be cowed by politicians no matter how well intended they may be, Napolitano said.
Look, if this is invalidated, the President can say this was invalidated by the court not by me...... If this is upheld, the President can say look, even a court appointed by a Republican president upheld this.....
... but for him to question the power and ability and authority of the court to review it and to decide if its unconstitutional is incomprehensible."
(end quote from article linked)..." Judge Napolitano"
Bravo, bravo! That is a fine piece of learning.
Wow, thanks! My old boss never told me about all that!
Go to this thread I put up and at least the video of Napilitano just worked for me...the one of Obama ...they are saying is not there,,,,it was earlier...
Go to post #2...this link ...2nd image....which just worked for me.
Looks like it is working again....
Thanks for the heads-up! It was worth watching.
Obama apparently doesn’t realize that the three branches of federal government are independent of one another.
Oh, well, I wasn’t his teacher or he would have an “F” for trying this trick.
