The survey, conducted among 1,004 American Jews by the Washington-based Public Religion Research Institute, found that Obama has the same level of support, 62 percent, among American Jewish voters as during a comparable point in the 2008 race.

Obama administration is blaming Israel for the recent rise in global crude oil prices. The rise in fuel prices is deemed as harming the U.S. economy and has also hurt Obama in the polls

Of Jews who supported Obama in 2008, an overwhelming majority, 86 percent, say they would like to see him re-elected

Socialism is part and parcel of American Jews, minus a few who somehow avoided sucking up their socialism with their mothers milk.

Hmmn - does that mean conservative Jews in America were bottle babies?

;-)

Jokes aside, Obama will lose American Jewish voters about the same time he loses the black vote. Think sometime after the next Ice Age.

The support Israel gets here doesnt reflect the republican party as a whole. Plus there is alot of support from nutjob evangelicals who want all the jews in israel and israel to be in its biblical borders so that the apocalypse will come and they will either convert or be killed.

Support from those types is sort of shaking hands with the devil in their eyes.

Then comes the point that alot of american jews dont care all that much about israel because they are AMERICAN.
Then you have the Haredi and some orthodox jews who are vehemently against zionism and the existence of israel.

Yes, sheik, I thought the same thing, but wouldn't use the term "delusional."

According to the posted article, "The 2012 Jewish Values Survey was conducted by the Public Religion Research Institute among a random sample of 1,004 self identified Jewish adults (age 18 or older) who are a part of the Knowledge Networks' KnowledgePanel."

This is far from a "random sample" of American Jews as a whole, since the participants are self-selected by their previous participation in this "KnowledgePanel," which appears to be a left-leaning site, and therefore attracts a more left-leaning population than the more standard telephone polling would. In fact, Jews who are more conservative politically would probably be statistically less likely to even use the Internet at all, let alone use that particular site. Therefore, there is good reason to think that the end result, 62% voting for Obama, is an overestimate of his support in the Jewish community. By the same logic, the 4% of respondents here who reported Israel as their most important issue is undoubtedly a gross underestimate for the American Jewish population as a whole.

It takes a lot of chutzpah for the polling organization to use this flawed technique and proclaim that their results reflect the attitudes of the American Jewish community as a whole.

The poster should have put that in a comment with the article, or not posted at all, IMO.

Are Jews not strongly represented in the entertainment industry? How about their representation in other high paying areas of society? The very rich always seem to like totalitarians..I suppose they do not want challenges to their own dominance.

American Jewish voters have been hard-core leftists for decades, so none of this is a surprise. I’ve speculated that so much of this can be attributed to two major factors: (1) a general distrust of “traditional American values” because of anti-Semitic prejudice in many American institutions over the years; and (2) the cultural influence that can be traced to immigration of large numbers of Jews from Eastern Europe in the early decades of 20th century. For many of those immigrants a totalitarian nanny-state was a way of life, and they brought their Marxist attitudes with them here to the U.S.

This must be the new math. If there is a lesser percentage of those that supported him in 2008, how can Obama have the same level of support? Are there suddenly more supporters in 2012 from the group who voted against him in 2008?

The answer is simple. Jews who vote Democrat are Jewish by birth only. Their religion is liberalism. Any time their loyalties (if any) to Judaism are in conflict with their liberalism, liberalism wins.

I wouldn't be surprised if 60% or so is correct. It would be a tremendous swing from recent elections. The 4% for Israel sounds low, and you're right to question the polling. These are pre-selected, recruited panels, not random, which is fine. But you'll note the firm neither advertises the availability of a Jewish sample, nor does Jew or Jewish come up on site searches, so the sample might be suspect.
