Yesterday, Sarah Palin emphasized in her interview with Matt Lauer that whoever becomes the GOP nominee should not play it safe in his selection of a vice presidential running mate. She declined to answer outright whether she thinks this years VP nominee should have more experience on the national stage than she did in 2008, but she did say she thinks the presidential nominee should go rogue with his pick.
Former GOP presidential nominee John McCain backed up those statements today with this:
On CBSs This Morning, McCain, the 2008 GOP nominee, was asked whether he agreed with his former running mate that Romney should go rogue in picking a vice president.
I think it should be Sarah Palin, McCain answered, laughing. And while he did not backtrack from that statement, he did say that there was a wealth of talent in the GOP field, including Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal.
Its an interesting proposition. Shes far more seasoned than she was in 2008, with a loyal fan base that would be incredibly energized by her presence on the ticket. But would she accept? She declined to run for the presidency herself, maintaining that she can have more influence as a media presence than as an actual candidate. If she worried she wouldnt have enough influence as the presidential nominee or the president, then she surely wouldnt be satisfied with the level of influence the vice presidential nomination offers, even if it was her launching pad to the fame she now enjoys.

This is exactly what the elite liberals and media want. Killing two birds with one stone, but in this case they simply want to make Christians the fools by lumping us in with mormonISM What a disaster is about to be played on America.
SNL & Will Ferrell, (the perfect Mittens), will have 4 years of Christian bashing jokes. How would a Christian lady as Sarah defend Mitt on this issue? She can't, so don't ask her too.
Newt or Santorum, go for it Sarah.
Doesn’t matter. I still wouldn’t vote for Romney, even if Palin *was* his running mate.
How about that Juan, and we skip over your boy Mittens.
No Romney! Not now, not ever!
I think you’re right. Romney’s loss would be blamed on Palin. She’d lose any influence she hoped to have in the future.
Bingo! My very first thought when I read it. McCain should be ashamed. Yet, he knows no shame. Besides, who could possibly care even one iota what Juan has to say. Wish he’d just go away.
I think John McLame should have fought harder in 2008. Sarah was trying to pull him over the top, but Juan “we have nothing to fear from an Obama presidency” McLame or Juan “I am suspending my campaign” McLame would have none of it.
I think there is a real chance that Romney could ask Palin to be VP simply because it’s very plain that Romney needs help to overcome his negatives with conservatives. My own personal feelings is that I will have a very hard time voting for Romney and there will be zero enthusiasm. If that’s the only choise I have, I will vote for him against Obama, but I always vote. I fear that a large percentage of conservatives will just stay home on election day if they have the same enthusiasm as I do for Romney. Unless Romney gets a cracker jack vp to energise the conservative base I don’t see him beating Obama. Who would be better to energize the conservative base than Sarah Palin?
That seems like such a demotion for Palin.
It would basically be saying: You are no more important now than you were four years ago when no one knew who you were.
Politics do make strange bedfellows. I never thought I would see the day when the people at the Daily Kos and the Free Republic both supported the same candidate for president.
Kossacks say they will never vote for Romney over Obama, and the Freepers say they will never vote for Romney over Obama.
Should I expect to see coordinated efforts between Freepers and Kossacks to get Obama relected ?
Granted it is for different reasons. Kossacks believe Obama is more liberal than Romney, and Freepers apparently believe Obama would govern as more of a conservative than Romney, but still in the end Kossacks and Freepers both want the same thing and that is for Obama to be relected, rather than to have a Romney presidency.
Obama has already said himself that if he wins relection that he will move FAR to the left. Which says something considering how far to the left he already is.
If Freepers believe that Romney will govern even farther to the left than Obama in a second term, than Freepers must believe that Romney is the biggest socialist in the history of civilization.
I am not saying that Freepers are wrong about this, but personally I always saw Romney as someone who just was concerned about winning elections. Therefore if as a Republican president he governed far to the left of what Obama has done so far. Which he would have to do if Freepers are right about Romney being more of a socialist than what Obama would be in his second term. Than Romney would be killing any chances he had of winning relection in 2016. Which means that Romney doesnt really blow with the wind as freepers say, but he is really a hard core leftist with deep socialist beliefs that he feels so strongly about that he would be willing to make himself a one term president in order to try to advance them. I am sorry but that theory just does not pass the smell test to me.
In the last week I have heard Freepers call Jim Demint, Paul Ryan, John Bolton, Mike Lee and Marco Rubio all rinos. The tea party in general was called rinos. If they are all rinos, because they endorsed Romney than I dont know who is left that passes the Republican purity test with freepers.
I guess possibly Sarah Palin still might pass the purity test, but she has already said she is a ABO believer, so I imagine she will endorse Romney once he officially gets the nomination, so I guess she will than be called a rino also.
Freepers seem to have painted themself into a corner where there is nobody left for them to support in the Republican Party or the Tea Party for that matter. The Libetarian thing is also out the window for Freepers considering how much you dislike Ron Paul.
I guess thats why that we now have Free Republic and Daily Kos on the same page. Free Republic purity tests have left Freepers with nobody to support except Obama.
She wouldn’t accept the pay cut.
Sarah didn’t run because of Perry’s late entry and too many conservatives splitting the vote. It made sense for her to drop plans with the large field, look at the conservative vote splitting going on now! Yes, Sarah would accept VP with romney and romney would be a total fool not to ask her and soon. Sarah is already vetted, tested, and has an army, unlike all the others. What kind of things are in rubio’s closet? Look what they did to herman cain. There isn’t much left to look for in Sarah Palin’s closet.
I think youre right. Romneys loss would be blamed on Palin. Shed lose any influence she hoped to have in the future.
That is the best argument I have heard for her not to veep for Willard.
She said there is a snowstorm outside. I went to the front where the windows were - WOW! There was already a half a foot of snow and it was just the beginning. It was a beautiful sunny day when we entered the hall. There was no sign of this storm before hand. So your remark about Chicago weather can change in 15 minutes, I can attest to!
I have to admit I guffawed when I read the headline! This really smacks of McCain saying, “Yeah, YOU try to be more interesting than Sarah! Go ahead, see how that works out for you!” LOL!
More seriously, she’d be a fool to play second banana to Romney. She’d become their fall guy, the same way she was for McCain. I hope she’s smarter than that.
I think she learned her lesson the last time. A V.P. nominee is obliged to be loyal to the POTUS who nominated her, and that part of it could not have been easy last time around, with McCain acting like the jerk that he is and his handlers undermining her at every turn.
Romney is even worse. And McCain got those traitorous handlers from Romney.
And it makes no sense from Romney’s point of view, either.
I just don’t see this happening. But, even if it did, I would still never vote for Romney. McCain might conceivably have been swayed from his RINO ways. Romney, never.
Same bone that was tossed to conservatives in 08...
Who is this "McCain" person?
That’s interesting, John. But, if you don’t mind, I will just vote for Sarah Palin for President this November instead. But thanks anyway.
OMG, I hadn’t thought of it that way. They were BOTH manchurian candidates.
Yep, mix some warm air from the Gulf, some cold air from Canada, and plop a big old lake right where they meet, and you never know what is going to happen.
Sarah learned in ‘10 that the way to be influential is to work hard and get other people elected, and wind up with a little black book of people who owe you. She’s going to own this party pretty soon.
Not this time. Absolutely nothing, not even the angel Moroni in all his glory, could make me vote for Romney.
McCain should be on a park bench feeding the pigeons. Or something.
Why would she want to give legitimacy to such a liberal nominee?
I don;t think the the GOPe wants to win
ABP TO SACRIFICE IN THE ATTEMPT TO SAVE ROMNEY’S SORRY A$$.
SHUT-UP JOHN McCAIN-ROMNEY-SELL-OUT!
The kiss of death.
She is fine right where she is. She is not presidential material, and she shouldn’t be thoght of in that light. People do her a great disservice after the B.S. she and her family went through. Subjecting her to that scrutiny again is abuse.
The field is poor, weak, and completely lacking. Just have to hope the house stays and possibly the senate becomes closer a more conservative body.
Hopefully 2016 will bare more conservative fruit.
As compared to Obama/Biden? This is a difficult cnoice?
choice
A VP would not balance that ticket. It would only provide cover for a liberal.
Lets face it. We need a miracle. Without one we’re screwed.
So pray for a miracle...
And expect the worse...
When is Bristol’s reality show? Because I think it would be difficult to run for VP while your daughter is enjoying a ‘trial marriage’ on a reality show. It would be a huge distraction.
As for me (and most Conservatives), we see the writing on the wall, where the Elites on BOTH SIDES put the ones they want forward, and the dunces vote for the (D) or (R), regardless of who or what they are.
Most of the real Americans have woken up to the charade, but, unfortunately, you are draggin' ass in the (R) column.
Good luck voting for a Loser.
Fooled in 2008 by McCain-Palin. Will NEVER happen again. No. More. RINOS.
McCain back stabs Palin again!
You signed up today to lecture us with this crap?
Why couldn't she run against the existing candidates? Debate them and take the slings and arrows?
I could win the US Open if I only had to play the back nine rather than playing all eighteen with the other players.
He’s part of the two party system.
You got my vote.
McCain only said this to give FReepers a reason to talk about him.
Sarah isn't one of the "established elites" inside the Republican Party. Her greatest interests are not with party-line politics; they're with people. She took over in Alaska, for instance, and proceeded to unseat or prosecute corrupt politicians ... Murkowski's included.
What she's doing now, along with NBC and Fox News appearances, is supporting Tea Party candidates that will put her in good standing with the right kind of people.
So it is okay for me just to play the back nine if my interests are “with people”. To hell with the process if this is the way I can win with the least effort and making the most money.
I understand now. Sort of.
Sarah is a problem solving doer, not a political-process person.
I'd say that her not getting into the standard process, aka debates, was a wise decision.
We shall see.
If they want to make China happy, maybe they should pick Huntsman.
Looks like you want obama.
The field is poor, weak, and completely lacking. Just have to hope the house stays and possibly the senate becomes closer a more conservative body.
Hopefully 2016 will bare more conservative fruit.
Of course Sarah Palin is Presidential material. It looks as if you have given up already.
I’m okay with Palin as Gingrich’s VP! ;) Or Santorum.
You know, he kind of has a point.
I’ve been lurking for a while too and I seem to recall Nikki Haley as the next conservative superstar. She supports Romney in South Carolina and the next thing you know, conservatives start calling her a RINO? How in God’s name could anyone ever assume that Haley isn’t a conservative?
Same thing with John Bolton!
I’m a Newt supporter and steadily worked on his campaign here in Florida. I’ll take Santorum in a pinch. Romney? Not so much. I don’t like him or his left-leaning politics, but I worry more about an unchecked second Obama term...when he’s got an aging USSC and doesn’t have re-election to worry about!
ABO-— Anybody but Obama. I’ll gladly vote Romney over Obama if it comes to that.
