Attorney For Alleged Mega Millions Winner Cannot Say That The Ticket Exists
CBS DC ^ | 4 April 2012

The intrigue surrounding a Maryland woman who claims to have won last week’s record-breaking Mega Millions jackpot intensified Wednesday as her attorney held a press conference in Baltimore that yielded few answers.

Attorney Edward Smith, who represents alleged winner Marlinde Wilson, told reporters he had not seen the winning ticket, nor did he want to during the 20-minute long session with the media.

“I cannot say with any certainty that this ticket exists,” said Smith.

Previously, the 37-year-old Wilson told the New York Post she stashed the ticket in a location that only she knew about inside the McDonald’s restaurant where she worked.

Is any part of that restaurant still left standing?

If the ticket doesn't exist the lawyer would not get paid. My guess is that she made up the story and will sue McDonald's claiming she left the ticket at the restaurant and McDonald's took it.

Lawyer hopes McDonald's settles out of court. A quick payday for a lying sociopath and her slimy lawyer.

This will be fun to watch. If this woman really IS the winner... you’re going to observe just how fast someone can burn through $100M and have nothing left to show for it.

Does that mean I can just say I won too if I do not have to surrender the ticket?

That poor store owner better surround the place with armed guards for when the homies show up with bulldozers and backhoes. Am I allowed to say ‘backhoes?’

Immigration status doesn't matter to Lottery officials. I have seen illegals win prizes before. I will bet either she lost it or it never had it to begin with. Either way she will need something to pay her lawyer with unless she is betting Al and Jesse will ride to her rescue

If you get an electronic mail offering to sell you the tresure map to Marlinde’s Millions, treat it with caution. There are a lot of fake ones out there.

I don’t see a problem here. I mean, if someone born a male can be referred to and treated as a woman because he says he “identifies as a woman”, why shouldn’t Ms. Wilson get the money for saying she identifies as the winner?

Oh this gets better by the day. She was part of a pool at McD’s and bought the tickets for the pool. When she saw the winner it looks like she now claims she bought it separate for herself.

There is mega millions of stupidity and greed to go around at that McD’s

Don’t lottery winners have to submit the winning ticket by a date certain or they forfeit the winnings?

Maybe ALL of the tickets are hidden - somewhere - and all but one ticket were purchased at one time, but the winning ticket, “her ticket” was purchased before or after the shared tickets?

She could be milking this for all it's worth with her only protection being that she knows where the ticket is. How do we even know she hid it at McDonald's - she coulda’ hid it at Red Lobster.

Just sayin’..........

I think the ticket is good to be claimed up to a year in the future.

I don’t think she has it, I may even say she could have had it and someone took it from her.

Has the lottery announced the time and place the ticket was sold.

If it’s a store, they probably have her on camera or not.

Here is my theory. She got a bunch of co-workers to give her money so she could by tickets for them all. But being a crack addict, all that money in her pocket was too tempting so instead of buying lottery tickets she got herself hooked up (note the co-workers and the McDonald’s manager said she never came back to work after buying the tickets and this was hours before the drawing).

Then she hears over the weekend that the winning ticket was purchased in MD, near the McDonalds where she works. So she gets an idea; she says she is the winner but it wasn’t one of the tickets her co-workers gave her money for. Then she says she hid the ticket somewhere in the McDonalds (even though nobody saw her come back after buying the ticket).

When the real winner does come forward and in possession of the ticket, she’ll sue claiming that the winner stole the ticket from her by going to the McDonald’s, looking for and finding it. Then her co-workers will also sue the winner. The only ones who will get rich from this nightmare will be the lawyers.

Yes, and she’s not on the camera footage, there were only 3 men who purchased tickets around that time.

This was tried once in Ohio’s lottery a few years back. A woman claimed to have won and then “lost the ticket”.
In the meantime the legitimate winner had to wait to claim his winnings. I don’t remember how or if the woman was punished for the fraud.

Thanx.

I would add that if she hid the ticket at work, she’s in double digits as far as IQ points.

One senario would be for her to wait for 2 or 3 months, so that when all this dies down, she can quietly submit the winning ticket. And since Maryland law allows the winner to remain anonymous, she will get away with it.

Another way would be for her to get someone else to submit the ticket in her place, thus shielding her. The other person can also remain anonymous, so tracing them back to her, might be difficult.

Amazing that Maryland law allows the winner to remain anonymous? Of course, perhap a court order may require the lottery officials to reveal who the winner is.

I think she has the upper hand here. There are so many ways for her to get away with this, legally, and never get caught.

meanwhile, the person who actually HAS the winning ticket (no affiliation with this nut job) is sitting back laughing his or her head off, watching this unfold. Probably getting more entertainment out of watching this idiot than any lottery winnings could provide.

I believe this woman’s technique was attempted by someone else a few years ago. Concoct some type of story, STAY in the news awhile so that everyone believes you to be the winner, hoping that the lottery officials will ALSO believe you to be the winner, even though YOU HAVE NO WINNING TICKET to present!

Sorry, no winning ticket, NO MONEY!!!! That is the way it works.
