Given my ten pounds for a dime ... Three bucks, in depression days, would have bought 300 pounds of grapes.

Working at a gas station after WW-II, I was washing windows, checking oil, and pumping gas at 25 cents a gallon.

Go back a little further in time, to the period between the mexican american war and the spanish american war...I believe a man earned a dollar a week and paid 10bucks for a horse...and 40bucks for a saddle. Between your hat, boots, horse, spurs, saddle, and tack, you had more than a years wages tied up.
