The press is circulating Republican-insiders stories again, this time saying Mr. Electable is unelectable.
Dont buy the latest spin from Democrats. Conservatives should stay calm, cool and collected.
Mitt Romney is the most presidential of Republican nominees since 1988. He looks the part, he acts the part and lives the part. He has worked his way up and made it on his own even though his father was a prominent businessman and successful governor. He is the grown-up in the room whose blandness is a strikingly attractive alternative to the All Trauma Obama presidency. Over the years he has taken progressively more responsible positions from head of the Mormon mission in France to CEO of Bain Capital that have built his self-confidence and the trust of others. When people talk about the Republican establishment, they are really talking about the successful people who will make up his government. This is about running a government.
President John McCain? Come on. What were we thinking? OK, the bench was thin. President Bush forgot to develop an heir.
Mitt Romneys blandness is a plus because he exudes grace under pressure. He gets flustered. But he grins and bears it. This will serve him well in a very ugly campaign, perhaps the ugliest since 1800. We know after 4 years of watching President Obama that he is extremely vulnerable under pressure. He cracks. His temper tantrum against the Supreme Court showed how intellectually empty he is. My goodness, it is unprecedented to have justices turn down a law? Talk about acting stupidly. The pressure must be applied carefully and consistently.

Oh, the sound bites we are going to hear.
I don’t know whether Mitt is electable or not.
I just know that I’m not voting for someone whose record is pro-SodomyIsMarriage, pro-abortion, pro-SocializedMedicine, anti-gun, and who is not a Christian.
If Obama wins, congressional elections will swing to republicans 2 years later and maybe we can impeach Obama, or block him, or tie him up.
If Romney wins, congressional elections will swing to democrats 2 years later. We will have a GOP-labled Rat President with a Rat congress, and nobody except Tea Party republicans will even attempt to stand in his way.
The media did a pretty good job of keeping Romney’s gaffes from becoming the story during the primary but they won’t miss a comma out of place in the general.
BTW did you know that the great lakes are fresh water and there are no sharks?
Don't forget, Obama has created an unbelievably rich target environment for us to shoot at. Even better, we are much better financed this time around. McCain ran his campaign like a pauper and had no financial ability or executive experience what so ever. That is why we lost in ‘08. McCain also sat on his hands and played dumb.
My biggest argument in this article is the following sentence...it is so incredibly wrong headed it pretty much voids anything else the author said.
When people talk about the Republican establishment, they are really talking about the successful people who will make up his government. This is about running a government.
this is idiotic. The establishment is the complete opposite and do not know how to 'run' a government. This was proven beyond a reasonable doubt in the past 10 years.
Why should I remain calm? Can this guy guarantee that we'll have a chance to toss this anchor that is Romney at the convention?
Romney’s watered down Republicanism will not “fix” anythign and the economy will stagnate and in 2016 we will see another Democrat elected as POTUS.
We need a bold POTUS who can produce results and when they run again in four years they can point to their record and say: Are you better off now than you were 4 years ago? and then the overwhelming response will be a resounding YES!! as it was in 1984 not a lukewarm MAYBE.....
MAYBE gets the otherside elected, YES!! get a reagan style landslide!
I’ll go to the polls looking to replace Debbie Stabenow with a conservative.
Romney is getting a bad rap regarding the car elevator at his “mansion” in La Jolla. It is a beach house, not a mansion. It is not that big and it is on a public street. Anybody can drive right by the house. It is not on a private road or behind a security gate. Parking is very limited in that neighborhood. He wants to tear down the old house and build a new one on the lot. He has a large family and they need more than a two car garage. The only way to park a few cars there is to go underground. The local contractors in San Diego need the work and he will pay with his own money. He is paying tons on property taxes that help the local schools. Compare this to the $10 million dollars of taxpayer money used to fly Moochelle 0bamas fat ass around on her vacations.
Just wait until the media starts vetting Romney, particularly on matters of his religion:
“Mr. Romney, is it boxers, briefs, or magic underwear?”
Romney, should he be elected, will likely be like Dwight Eisenhower, a semi-conservative leader. He will not be a Reagan and hopefully not a Nixon. Typically, he’ll ride the line right between the two and that makes him similar to Eisenhower.
We must be cautious. Eisenhower gave us Earl Warren and William Brennan on the Supreme Court and Potter Stewart wasn’t all that great either.
If Romney is a twist with the winds politician, let’s make sure the winds move in a conservative direction. That means controlling the congress and as many governorships and state legislatures as possible.
Yes, right on the mark.
I think the issue is not whether Mitt can win, but whether Obama will lose to him by sending panicked voters running in his direction with the type of stupidity we’ve seen out of him in the past couple of weeks.
MITT ROMNEY IS NOT A NATURAL BORN CITIZEN!
Mitt Romney is John McCain deja vu all over again, and will achieve the same dismal result against Obama. Forget the Senate majority. The majority in the House is in grave danger. I pray for divine intervention, but it’s beginning to look like the nominee is going to be Romney, and the next President will be Obama..
We have even better ones from Obama and his radical czars.
I like Mark Steyn’s line; it’s better to convince an imperfect person to do the right thing than to wair for somebody perfect.
I don’t care if he tears down a $50 million house to build a $100 million one. His wealth is not the issue with me. The issues are his love of abortion, sodomites, socialized medicine, taxes, and liberalism in general. And they are insurmountable.
Mitt Romney is the most uninspiring Republican nominee in my lifetime. He makes John McCain, Robert Dole, and Gerald Ford look like excellent choices. Romney has done more flip-flopping than Mary Lou Retton. Read my tagline VERY CLOSELY!!!! I won’t vote for him in the primary. If Gingrich and Santorum drop out, I’ll vote for Ron Paul.
I just don’t understand conservatives bashing success. He’s building it with his own money. He’s not running around the planet with an entourage on the taxpayers dime
I’m looking forward to voting for Rick Santorum in the primaries, and hopefully in the General Election.
Romney = McCain
How did that work out?
That's right... Any part you want him to portray... conservative, liberal, moderate, statist, laissez-faire libertarian, anti-gun, pro-gun, pro-border, pro-illegal, pro-growth, enviro-nut...
Whaddayaknow... all those "parts" wrapped up on one. Mitt "Sybil" Romney at your service (or not)!
Romney’s is one of less than 40 beach houses in La Jolla, worth a cool $12 million, with basement garage space for a least a dozen cars. Mitt plans to greatly expand the the current 3000 sq. ft. living space.
Romney is better on television than all three of them put together. Nothing is going to change if the banks decide to let him win the election, but at least he'll be a bit harder for the MSM to criticize than GWB was.
I’ve been looking for that Hamilton quote! Thanks!
People are so busy looking behind them in their panic, that they're failing to watch where they're headed. They forget that in voting "against" something, they are also voting FOR something, and voting FOR liberalism always empowers liberalism.
Courage -- including the courage to risk a much-weakened Obama for another four years as the price of fighting to preserve the Republican party as an antidote to liberalism -- is our best chance of being victorious in the long term to save America from socialism. The best way to weaken Obama AND Romney, regardless of who wins, is to vote third-party to dilute the percentage plurality of the winner.
Romney in the White House, the product of fear, panic, and desperation, would be the the agent that brought the Republican party to surrender to statism and liberalism; Romney would be the catalyst to make the Republican party a wholesale enabler of liberalism and disabler of any Republican fight against it.
Romney has consistently promoted the very crushing government statism that stifles morality, freedom, and prosperity, and which nourishes strife and repression -- cap-and-trade regulation to squelch energy and production; on-demand tax-funded abortion; forced acceptance of open homosexuality in all corners of our lives and punishment for resisting it; nationalized health care. Voting for Romney is NUTS.
A B O
The communist ghetto street thug and marxist street leech parasite needs to go.
“Romneys watered down Republicanism will not fix anythign and the economy will stagnate “
All he’s got to do is approve the Keystone pipeline and some drilling here and there, lay off the coal plants, chip away at welfare, cancel Obamacare -
all of which I do believe he’ll do if elected, and I am not a Romney cheerleader.
This economy would take off like a rocket.
Problem is, a large percentage of American voters are dimmer than a 5-watt nightlight in a warehouse at midnight. With the "media's" collective nose firmly planted up Obama's backside, who will inform them they're authorized to panic?
Some of us think he has way too many actually.
I hope you are right.....but I've little confidence in Romney..and the GOP.
I don't believe that Romney and the RNC will ever attack Obama as fiercely as they attacked Newt or Santorum. The attack on Newt in Florida was over the top and I don't believe Romney will come close to that when the general election rolls around. He'll be wary of making the moderat middle mad.
Hear hear! Well stated!
And if Romney uses some of the same ammunition McCain had available but declined to use, and I think he will, 0bummer likely will twist and writhe like a worm on a hook.
“Mitt Romney is the most uninspiring Republican nominee in my lifetime. “
It’s cool to have been born after Alf Landon and Wendell Wilkie!
“He makes John McCain, Robert Dole, and Gerald Ford look like excellent choices.”
Romney is more intelligent, articulate and capable as an executive leader than those three. If we survived Eisenhower and GHWBush, we can survive moderate Romney.
I just don't understand FReepers making up fiction out of whole cloth. Point me to a post where someone is bashing Romney's success in business.
Perhaps, in keeping with Romney supporters' MO of 4 years ago on this forum, you are in such deep denial of the obvious fact that we object to Romney BECAUSE OF HIS POLITICAL RECORD, that you must instead attribute it to such a petty, stupid reason as envy, the same as folks four years ago attributed it to religious bigotry.
You could see it at the Heritage Foundation site. The site had been a rich source of conservative information until 2000. That's when they stopped posting articles - not a word could be spoken because it would make Dubya look bad.
The same thing will happen with Mitt, only worse. Mitt pretends to have traditional values, but what he has is Mormon values. It will silence conservative thought in America - and the result will be lost knowledge for our young people.
Mitt's election will bring a slow end of our liberty.
Well said... I might add.. take this rare opportunity to regravitate the conservative movement toward a third party. Tea Partiers and other conservatives are so damned disgusted by the cowardice and inertia of the GOP, they'll welcome the opportunity to actually have a voice in a party in which they're actually major players.
As for Romney, his candidacy is going to be taking direct hit upon hit 24/7 from the Obama propaganda conglomerate and will quickly take on water soon after the janitors finish cleaning up after the RNC. From post-nomination Day One, Romney will be backpeddling on defense on a wide range of issues. He is not going to defeat Obama.
Alexander Hamilton was RIGHT, RIGHT, RIGHT.
“Mitt Romney is John McCain deja vu all over again, and will achieve the same dismal result against Obama.”
Worse, I suspect. I can see Bishop Willard losing conservative strongholds where voters endured and supported McCain for the sake of his military service and for his VP pick. Bishop Willard brings neither of those things, and his serial smears of superior people will come back to haunt him.
Glad to hear it! That means he doesn't need my vote.
His record in Massachusetts isn't something I'd vote for, but I'll make him a promise.
Assuming Romney wins the nomination and is eventually elected POTUS, if he does a good job as POTUS for four years I'll vote for him next time.
