(Duke) lacrosse accuser (Crystal Mangum) wants murder charge dismissed, new judge

Durham, N.C. — The Durham woman who falsely accused three Duke University lacrosse players of rape in 2006 filed motions Thursday asking that a murder charge against her be dismissed and that the judge in the case to recuse himself.

Crystal Mangum, 32, is charged in the death of Reginald Daye, 46, who was stabbed with a kitchen knife during an April 3, 2011, argument at his Durham apartment, police said. They had been dating for about a month at the time of his death.

Mangum filed the motions herself, with the assistance of a supporter who isn't an attorney. The motions state that Mangum isn't happy with the work of her court-appointed lawyer.

The dismissal motion alleges that Mangum was defending herself against a drunken Daye when the stabbing occurred. It also alleges that the stab wound didn't kill Daye, who died more than a week later at Duke University Hospital, suggesting instead that other health problems led to his death.

Mangum also asked that Superior Court Judge Osmond Smith remove himself from the case, citing his involvement in the Duke lacrosse case and alleging that his rulings show bias against her.

On his last day in office in the last few hours (hopefully in January 2013), I expect him to get writer’s cramp pardoning anybody and everybody, as long as they come up with the dough to get that autograph................

I generally oppose the death penalty tho there are cases where no other punishment is justice.

I think Nifong should be put up against a wall and executed.

He was perfectly willing to destroy the lives of three innocent (tho stupid) young men just to enhance his chance of staying prosecutor.

By next week, she’ll ask for the trial to be transferred to Sanford, Fl.

I think you missed his sarcasm.

Unless I’m reading him wrong, Mr. K is one of those die hards who still blame the lacrosse team for three of its members being falsely charged with rape.

“...that the judge in the case to recuse himself.”

Are there no editors?

Huh?

what are you nuts?

I blame the Duke Lacrosse players ONLY for their choice of entertainment, which is what started this all- I hope they leanred something

But everything that happened later was totally the result of Nifong who should spend the REST OF HIS LIFE IN JAIL for what he tried to do, for his own polical gain.

The stripper was a sleazy whore, but her false complaint would have gone no where without Nifong amplifying the damage 1000-fold

Nifong is the biggest villian in this horror story, the stripper is second, but the Duke boys are not totally blameless for the choice they made, and this serves an example of just how bad things can get when you make dumb choices.

I mean geez- they hire a stripper and nearly ruin their lives

Next time go to the movies and try to find a nice girl you would be willing to take home to your parents.

Now- are we clear? Is any of this objectionalble to anyone? Please correct me where I am wrong

“they hire a stripper and nearly ruin their lives”

The second is in no sense any possible predictable consequence of the first. For someone to have made a bad decision, the consequences of that decision must be knowable in advance. Hindsight doesn’t count.

She could have been a painter or plumber who was equally nuts. Any stranger in your home can be equally unpredictable.

All you have to do is give a woman a chivalrous ride home in your car and if she accuses you of rape she equally can ruin your life.

For just this reason, when I used to be a university faculty member, I would never ever have a closed door meeting with a female undergraduate. In order to treat everyone equally, I made the male undergraduates leave the door open too.

Nifong’s no longer an attorney and can’t take the case anyway. He was disbarred. Good riddance.

but..but..it's such a clear case of self defense against rape.

you are right, but it did.... which is my point

They didn't hire a plumber or an electrician or innocently offer a ride to someone who turned out to be nuts, they hired a whore

You do see my point here, don't you? All of those other choices are innocent- hiring a whore is not

And hey - I am no saint- I have gone to strip clubs- I'll admit it- but I am glad none of the more embarrassing moments in my life turned out this bad

No, wrong. They hired a DANCER with the intent of NOT having sex with her or even touching her. In the event, she who turned out to be a whore. And nuts. They could have also hired a plumber. Who turned out to be a whore. And nuts. Same result. Neither action could have reasonably been expected to produce a rape charge.

You’re supposed to be able to hire a dancer (or anyone), NOT rape her, and then NOT be charged with rape.

good choice of “entertainment” guys

They contacted an “Escort Service” and hired a “Dancer.” My best guess is unless you work through an agency that charges four figures, you end up with something that looks like Crystal Mangum.

One poor rich bastard wasn’t even at the party in the first place. Another left before the whores arrived. They were targetted because they offended bigots by breathing while white.
