Coke withdraws from group that backs Stand Your Ground law

ORLANDO, Fla./NEW YORK (Reuters) - Coca-Cola Co is dropping its membership in a conservative national advocacy group that supports "Stand Your Ground" laws such as the one being used as a defense in the Florida killing of an unarmed black teenager, Trayvon Martin.

The move by the world's biggest soft drink maker comes as corporate America faces increased scrutiny from consumers and shareholder activists over lobbying and political spending.

My error. I did 3-4x in the 50s, then quit. (I was a milk drinker) Read the part of my post about (fizzy) cream soda.

In Scout summer camp (late-50s), we tried using Coke to “tenderize” some meat. It burned the meat up, shrunk it and turned it brown; like shot leather. None of us touched that cola stuff after that.

Big mistake indeed. When the Rush/prostitute flap was in full hue and cry and companies were bailing out, I posted on other forums that these companies were idiots. I wrote that the Left's attention span was that of a goldfish and as soon as another cause celebre arose, like a school of minnows, they'd dart off in another direction. Brand loyalty means nothing to them. Sure enough, we now have this case and who remembers the bimbo - or which company supported her?

Goes to show you the level of intelligence exhibited by company leaders. They may think “Stand Your Ground” is the issue in the Trayvon death. This is not the case. It has been legal for years to defend yourself in a case where someone is trying to kill you. That defense is up the killing the perp.

That is the law I’m familiar with in North Carolina. I’d not heard it referred to as a Stand Your Ground law though.
