An effort to shake up the GOP primary race is underway in the Longhorn State. The outcome could set the course for a brokered convention by keeping front-runner Mitt Romney from securing enough delegates to win the presidential nomination outright.
David Bellow, a member of the State Republican Executive Committee, told The Daily Caller that he believes there is enough support among committee members to call an emergency SREC meeting to vote to change Texas primary from a proportional system to winner-take-all delegate state.
According to Bellow, the effort has support from the necessary 15 SREC members to petition and call for an emergency meeting to make the decision.
In order for the committee to vote they will need a quorum of 50 percent, and in order to change the rules they will need a two-thirds vote of the SREC members in attendance at the emergency meeting.
I think it is very likely that we get the two-thirds. We have not submitted the petition yet because we kind of want to make sure we have that two-thirds, said Bellow. We dont want to call the meeting and then get there all the way to Austin and then not have the votes. So right now we are making sure we have the votes and it looks like we do have the votes.

Anybody but Obama (or Romney).
I’m no fan fan of Romney, but this is bull$hit.
But they refuse to listen to reasonable advice. Nobody from their side, can not claim that there has not been enough logical advice given, to save them from further embarrassment.
This is the last presidential election with a republican party. Next cycle; demublicans vs. the Tea Party.
If I am remembering this correctly.
Isn’t it a bit late in the game to be changing the rules though?
Otherwise, I’m fine with it
Florida was winner-take-all but they were penalized by getting only half as many delegates as they would have if they had played by the RNC rules. After the primary Gingrich tried to get the Florida delegates shared, but haven’t heard anything lately about that.
I figured it would go this way when the redistricting lawsuit came up. Unintended consequence of the “hispanics” attempted power grab through the liberal judges initial ruling.
It pushes the primary back to after April 1, thus easily opening the door to switching back to Winner-Take-All.
So Effing cheaters is what we are now?
Changing the rules in the middle of the game is stacking the deck and ain’t right.
How many other Florida’s and Lone Star states are we going to go along with for this crap?
I agree. Not a fan of Romney either, but changing the rules in the middle of the game is something liberals specialize at.
Santorum needs to be very carefull. He may get more than he bargained for. The Large population centers will vote for Mittens just like that have in all the Previous Southern States. That is a fact just look at any of the maps this primary Season.
Mittens has a very good GOTV and plenty of Money. Santorum appears to be Tired and we know he is Under Funded. Make TX a winner take all and Mittens will unleash Bloody Tuesday II on Santorum count on it.
If Mittens gets 155 Delegates from TX well its over. If Mittens splits TX with Santorum then we have a chance at Tampa.
At least, thanks to you, I wasn’t surprised.
Tuesday 29 May 2012: 152 of Texas's 155 delegates to the Republican National Convention are bound to presidential contenders in today's Texas Presidential Primary. [General Rules for All Conventions and Meetings. Rule 38. Section 8. f.]
From the statewide vote, compute the number of delegates each candidate receives by multiplying that candidate's percentage of the statewide vote by the total number (152) of district and at-large delegates.
A Presidential candidate may withdraw from participation in the Presidential Primary ... by filing with the Secretary of the SREC a signed and acknowledged request ... votes cast for that candidate shall be deemed votes for uncommitted [Rule 38 - Section 2.d]
In addition to the ballot listing of the names of the qualifying Presidential candidates, there shall appear at the bottom of such listing ... a place designated "Uncommitted" ... [Rule 38 - Section 3.c]
How is it in the middle of the game? Nobody in Texas has voted yet? If Texas had voted before Florida, this might be a different election.
It is my understanding, after attending a meeting last night, that this will probably not be doable for this year but would/could apply in future elections. With only a few exceptions the major opinion expressed by attendees and presenters was that all primaries need to be held on the same day or at a minimum that Texas should hold their primary the same time as Florida. Of course our biggest problem this year was the Federal government and judges who stuck their nose in our business once again and wouldn’t accept our new redistricting maps.
>Im no fan fan of Romney, but this is bull$hit.
That started with:
1) allowing Romney, a democrat to run for the GOP
2) not calling Romney on his racist Mormon cult
3) Romney using his fortune to run negative ads
4) Romney’s endless flip-flopping
Changing the rules lawfully is just that.
I very well might in a four man race.
Yeah, cause changing the rules in midstream is such a bedrock, conservative principle, right?
What goes around, comes around.
We are fighting Alinskyites.
We can allow them to force us to live up to our own book of rules (Rules for Radicals #4) and lose, or we can use their own tactics against them and win.
Are you tired of losing yet, or do you want to keep doing the same thing over and over again (Bush I, Bob Dull, John McKeating, Myth Romney) and expect a different result?
“This thing will backfire on Santorum and his fanatics big time. This will absolutely, ruin his political future.”
If Santorum takes out Romney, and the eventual nominee goes on to beat Obama (something that Romney cannot do), then Santorum becomes a Republican LEGEND, on a par with Reagan.
Like your masquerading as a Newt supporter while shilling for Willard has backfired on you?
You have no credibility here - might as well change your screen name.
