That's probably the same thing someone said about the Canadian transexual. She...he...it...arrg whatever... was that hot.
It doesn’t get the fish bits off my keyboard but it is an eye soother.
While we’re on the subject, a whole bunch of small monthly donors is just as good as a few big endowments.
Do you have any idea how much money Jim could make by selling this site, a la Huffington Post for example, to an entity that wanted to use it for advertising? For that matter, do you know how much money Jim could make by selling advertising?
It says plenty about the character of Jim that he isn’t selling out to anybody.
And you are questioning the numbers?
Dude. Get a grip.
Understood. But if you’re ever looking for any promotional artwork I’m sure there are plenty of us who would be happy to donate some skills.
maybe they are dropping acid or something. anyhoo. tata op.
But I think I understand your reticence to keep your baby non-commercial. I just don't agree with you.
Either way, like Glen, I've been here since 1998 aand his comparison of FR to government is about as accurate as the constitutional scholar's lecture to the SCOTUS.
Classy reply to Glen btw.
Good Grief Man! There’s no call for that!
Well, going commercial will complicate things and I’d just as soon avoid it if possible.
AdBlock is the solution. :)
OK, but to that end if cripplecreek agrees to have that picture taken down in the name of all that is Holy I’ll contribute 100 bucks right now.
This sorry excuse for an Opus from Glenn makes me want to hurl.
Dead Presidents on the way.
LOL give now or else.
I think we need a sellers forum where proceeds or at least a percentage goes directly to Free Republic. Myself and plenty of others with an artistic bent are more than happy to promote FR through art.
Agreed . . . Would be doable.
. . . with medicare payment taking a chunk out . . . my Soc Sec is now $360/mo. Wheee. Not easy.
But that picture better have disappeared forever!:-}
I got pictures of Helen Thomas and big Mo too.
Still trying to keep FR non-commercial. Thanks.
Probably still my PREFERENCE.
However . . . Given all the trying financial givens in this traumatic era . . .
and IF lurkers &/or posters below a certain number of posts were to be the only ones to see ads—that would be quite workable, too . . .
particularly for Patriotic companies, individuals, products.
And personally, I’d love to see the figures worked out somehow such that a month or 3’s buffer could be built up. Not that I have any capacity to help, much. Sadly.
Perhaps an exorcist as well.
“Decide for yourself.”
Impossible. I don’t want to have to do that on my own. Somebody PLEASE decide for me. [biting nails feverishly] I just don’t know what to do. Can the government help?
If I can donate, which I did last time, anyone can donate.
I would assume Freepers on a budget,as I am,are well aware that you can give up spending on something to give to something else.
That’s what I learned early on-—I was a Depression baby whose father died very young.Going without was routine for many years.
Thank you very much, jwalsh07!!
The positives could really outweigh the negatives (such as my personal pissing/moaning about how this place so stoneage much of the time).
Anyhow......I just logged in to find the FReepathon thread so I can do my quarterly - such as it is, in this Obama economy, so off I go wandering!
If you/we went that route . . .
I’d want you to insure that the new set-up would be
LESS STRESS for you, for John
and then for the rest of us.
Otherwise . . . the cost might be too high per benefit.
I DO THINK it COULD be set up decreasing the stress . . . there are likely folks you could trust to take some of that stress off of you in such a situation—freeing you for the nicer aspects of your life.
That might make it worth it . . . in addition to decreasing concerns, anxieties & sheer hassles etc. every quarter.
I’m going to continue just the way we are. No stress here. Thanks.
Remember Mr. Drysdale from the Beverly Hillbillies? I always thought he knew his stuff as it pertained to banking.
Thank you very much, ErnBatavia!!
You may not have realized it, but donating to FR is voluntary. Not
/////This site should never run at a negative cost to the owner. Period./////
even if the owner refuses to have any dialogue about the future of the sight and just says “its mine and this is how it is....period?”
if he can get enough to donate with that attitude more power to him....if not??????????
If Obuma had a son, would he ask Glenn for a second opinion?
For starter’s, Jim never said that, and don’t worry or concern yourself, we will meet our financial goals.
FReepers always come through for Free Republic and Jim.
FReepers are the absolute best.
That is a great idea!
But don't try and stir up crap with innuendos, I don't give a happy crap how long you've been here!
Say what you mean and mean what you say or STFU.
I like turtles.
A moose once bit my sister.
That is hugh and series around here.
Thanks at least for not posting a thousand word parting opus.
You know how things are run here.
No one is asking you to give what you cannot afford.
I contribute a small amount every month via credit card. It could not be simpler.
If everyone did that that posts and lurks here, Jim would not have to worry about Freep a thons at all. There would be a stable base of steady income, without billing.
There are 100,000 people a month that use Freerepublic. If
everyone gave $ 5.00/month, the yearly cost would be paid in one month.
Truth is, not a large percentage of those here pay for the privilege. Everyone needs to do something.
BTW, if you are going to go out after 13 years, you could have put a little more thought into your opus instead of embarrassing the rest of us Class of ‘98-ers.
////its mine and this is how it is....period?/////
excuse me.....it refers to a mind set....not a direct quote.....
“....a whole bunch of small monthly donors is just as good as a few big endowments.”
That’s what I think too - but my wife’s not buying it.
“I like turtles.”
Me too. And toast with honey on it.
As another member of the Class of 1998 (lurked in 1997), I agree with everything you said. It’s a voluntary contribution, and given Jim’s medical issues coupled with the costs to run this site, I don’t begrudge him a dime. God bless him and this site. Not happy with it, don’t contribute. But why stop coming to the site for the articles?
