Breaking: NBC Fires Producer Who Created False Zimmerman Audio By Matthew Sheffield Created 04/06/2012 - 7:55pm
NBC News has fired the producer it says was responsible for creating the deceptive audio recording of George Zimmerman communicating with a 9-1-1 operator, according to the New York Times.
The network is still refusing to release the name of the producer, although according to Times reporter Brian Stelter, the producer is based in Miami and has worked there for a number of years. According to Stelter's network sources, NBC is still insisting the deceptive edit was not done deliberatiely. The network has refused to say how exactly someone could accidentally have edited the tape to make Zimmerman appear to be racially motivated:
NBC News has fired a producer who was involved in the production of a misleading segment about the Trayvon Martin case in Florida.
The person was fired on Thursday, according to two people with direct knowledge of the disciplinary action who declined to be identified discussing internal company matters. They also declined to name the fired producer. A spokeswoman for NBC News declined to comment.
The action came in the wake of an internal investigation by NBC News into the production of the segment, which strung together audio clips in such a way that made George Zimmermans shooting of Mr. Martin sound racially motivated. Ever since the Feb. 26 shooting, there has been a continuing debate about whether race was a factor in the incident.
The segment in question was shown on the Today show on March 27. It included audio of Mr. Zimmerman saying, This guy looks like hes up to no good. He looks black.
But Mr. Zimmermans comments had been taken grossly out of context by NBC. [...]
The editing of the segment was initially noticed by NewsBusters, an arm of the Media Research Center, a conservative media monitoring group. On March 31, NBC told The Washington Post that it would investigate. [...]
The people with direct knowledge of the firing characterized the misleading edit as a mistake, not a purposeful act.
While NBC has taken a good first step toward rectifying the situation, until the network releases the name of the person and explains its theory that the edit was not deliberate, its credibility is still under question.
Full Times story is here.
And let us not forget that it was a FReeper, Buckhead, who first revealed that the Bush/Rather memos were fabricated..
“NBC is most likely acting on the advice of lawyers trying to limit liability. “
I would have LOVED to be a fly-on-the-wall in the meeting where the Risk Management Dept. lawyer told them how many dollars they could be on the hook for, should one of MSNBC’s insane, hate-filled watchers do something stupid, let alone the damages for defamation they may already face.
Probably not obstruction of justice, since they didn’t prevent law enforcement officials from obtaining evidence. But very, very likely slander, and possibly incitement to riot, as well as most certainly an abuse of the public airwaves, and ample cause for the FCC to remove their broadcast license.
I agree. In fact, my wife, who regularly chastises me for taking conservative positions, is shocked and outraged by this, and considered NBC’s apology an insult to her intelligence.
A common misconception. NBC doesn't have or need an FCC license because NBC does not broadcast. Rather, their affiliate stations do. It is the stations that have a FCC license.
NBC lies-Zimmerman fries.
I wish Rush would release his multitudes on the LSM.
See F. Chuck on the Mall or in front of the White House?
Get in his face and humiliate him.
Ron Allen in flyover country? Ask him why he aired that piece. The O’Donnell/Mitchell/Maddow Bimbettes? Let them know we know they lie.
Double for the local NBC affiliates covering the snow storm or the “if it bleeds, it leads” story.
There are a few network owned/operated stations subject to FCC licensing.
He is not the only guilty one. There is a corporate environment at NBC and its cable cousins then promotes and enables this type behavior. To select one low-level producer instead of a top on down coup is to create a scapegoat.
ABCNNBCBS = GGTV = Gangster Govt TV = American Pravda
Networks don’t have or need ‘broadcast licenses’. Those belong to individual stations.
Certainly a case could be made that NBC meets the standard of ‘reckless disregard of the truth’ and is guilty of defamation and libel.
Respond by persuading Zimmerman to sue for libel, keeping the issue in the news and dragging NBC through their slimy operation in court.
Way back in the day when I was a debt collector, clients would sometimes believe their former clients who had stiffed them. They would believe their claims of racial slurs, threats, and various other things that we had not done. Back in those days we never ever told a client that they were wrong(even though they were). So we simply said that we would remove that collector from their accounts. Really all we did was change their dunning name.
Since the name of the parties are cloaked so well in this case...I really have to wonder if are dealing a little bit of a shell game.
They probably hired him back under another phony name!
So, they claim they fired a producer. Sure they did.
Contact information a post 62.
Zimmerman should sue.
You know, Olbermann is available again!
I never thought about that until you mentioned it... but it just may be true.
The very act of editing requires that one choose what to edit out and what to leave in so the above "characterization" is an out and out lie. Of course the editing was deliberate, purposeful act.
And Jesse Jackson’s daughter was just hired by FOX! With what has happened to Fox, the one who was fired could probably get a job with them, holding Geraldo’s hand,
I guess they decided, for some reason, that the “fake but accurate” defense wouldn’t work this time. Wonder why . . .
God,I had forgotten all about the gas tank fiasco.
NBC is treating the identity of this fired “producer” as if he/she was a muslim.
Should be “a deliberate, purposeful act.”
You owe Pravda an apology. At least they would show the Politburo in less than favorable light once in awhile.
ABC doing a little damage control?
“SANFORD, Fla. - New analysis of calls to police made by George Zimmerman, who shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, show a man who never offered up race as a descriptor of suspicious people in the neighborhood watch area until being prompted by a dispatcher. On the calls he made to Sanford, Fla., police he seems reluctant to take initiative in pursuing one suspicious man.”
Let me be the first (I Think) to call BS on this. If NBC is not releasing a name, then how do we really know someone was fired...Think about it, they can say they did but there is no PROOF
And why would a PRODUCER be fired, when the EDITOR was the one who doctored the tape?
Producer: "Oh, sure, two or three."
NBC: "Ok, you're fired."
I would think a rainbow coalition member... or perhaps the Twana Brawley fan club!
Just more moon walking IMO
Beause the editor was doing what the producer told them to.
It can be both, a mistake and a purposeful act.”
You nailed it!
Unless the EDITOR did it on his own and the PRODUCER is the designated fall guy.
You better believe it. NBC paid $500,000 (in 1996 dollars!) to this man: Richard Jewell v. NBC
Generally, those low level tech positions are filled with people who could give a crap about content.
It’s the producer who makes editorial decisions.
Was that the one that analyzed the type of printing or am I thinking of something else?
I was on-line the day the print thing was posted and it blew my mind.
I heard he’s already been hired by a new reality show called “the Running Man”.
You're right. Just look at the unending uproar over the forged documents used by Obamao and how it finally hounded him from office.
Exactly. Moreover, if you listen to the dishonestly edited version of the audio, you can hear a distinct difference in the audio background. At the edit point, Zimmerman seems to have shifted the phone in his hand or something because you can hear the noise. In the original unedited version, the background sound seems normal and actually starts before he says that he thought that Martin was black. In the edited version, it begins suddenly at the edit point.
Not only was the edit dishonest, it was sloppily done.
Does anybody have the show name, and broadcast date and time for the original airing of the tape by NBC? You need it to file an FCC complaint, which might have to be done for each of the broadcasting stations, but we’re going to have to get to it to be taken seriously. We need to make this cost big time.
Because NBC played the major role in inciting this threatening and criminal behavior that has come about as a result of their deliberate and immoral attempt to perpetuate a fraud it bears the major responsibility and liability for the harm that has come to people and our country as a result.
With it's penchant for sensationalizing the news, and fanning the flames of discontent, as well as creating an edited version of the incident that is more of a fabrication, rather than doing due diligence and researching the facts and reporting the complete truth, NBC has, itself, become an accessory to all related crimes, The network must be held legally accountable for all damages that have resulted, and will continue to result until and unless a full declaration of their role...and a complete explanation of the truth is put forth by NBC.
Firing of a "supposed" producer, who remains unnamed, is of miniscule significance and should not exempt the network from being charged and fined for the danger they provoked and the consequences their actions have already had and will continue to be felt in America. Those actions, which as we all know, were neither accidental nor without supervised approval and specific intentions.
In addition...just like a godfather in a crime syndicate, the same liability for the criminal activity that has resulted can be placed on the hands of Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, The Black Panthers and all who have continued to irresponsibly cry for vigilante justice without informing themselves of the truth while encouraging more criminal revenge.

That was my quote you didn’t like, not Cboldt’s
No, the Kenyan has not been driven from office, but the forged document story is clearly still an ongoing issue, with several states having at addressed the issue.
The point being, that at least the Left is no longer able to operate with complete control of the news cycle.
...the culture at NBC that encouraged and fostered this fraud?...
They are responsible for people being attacked by gangs of black racists they incited. Liberalism is a daily Klan rally. Obammy and Holder are their grand masters.
