The Orange County Register will send 70 reporters to the Angels opener >br>By Kevin Kaduk | Big League Stew – 10 hours ago

This just in: There's been a run on notepads and digital recorders in southern California.

That's because the Orange County Register plans to have 70 of its 100 reporters — yes, that's a seven followed by a zero — covering Friday night's opener between the Los Angeles Angels and Kansas City Royals at Angel Stadium. A "news mob," the paper calls it.

As a point of comparison, Wikipedia lists 48 regular members of the White House press corps. Of course, to borrow from a famous Babe Ruth quote, Albert Pujols had a much better 2011 — and makes a lot more money — than the president.

Tigers picked up Prince Fielder and they didn’t get that kind of coverage but game two in the series against the Red Sox will get national coverage on FOX tomorrow.

Typical white-hot LA hype.

AP is about to find out, he will get spectacular adulation for 45 minutes and then LA will move on to something else. A far cry from the sustained support and interest he received here in the midwest.

El Hombre, Mang, you’re not in St. Louis anymore.....

They also won’t be as patient if he’s hitting .270 around the break, either.

That is just strange. Will they be producing a special section or something?

Angels need to win to tie the Rangers for first place.

Yes, the big sports story has to be Petrino, followed by the Masters. Baseball is something to have on TV while I'm reading or cooking

No, but we can look forward to 70 one-line excerpts from their resident blog pimp.

I seem to recall him saying something to the effect of he wasn’t leaving because of the cash, it was about respect. Well, in LA, he’s going to find out he’s not that rich compared to the Hollywood crowd and he’s not that famous compared to them either. And I doubt he will be able to take the Angels to the World Series. So here’s my question, when you have fans in STL taking his jerseys and making the 5 into a $ and/or burning them, if/when he goes into the Hall of Fame, what will he go in as?
And as a side note, when it comes down to delivering in a game, when you’re one out away from losing the World Series, after watching Game 6, I’d rather have David Freese on my team more than Albert.

And this game is special because...............? Two-for-one hot dog night? Did they build a new stadium or something?

MSM freeloaders...

Either that, or one reporter's "beat" for the night will be to monitor Pujols' nose-picking & spit output. Another will be to twitter that nose-picking & spit output. A third will be to capture it on camera, etc.

That was in response MORE to the shock of Albert signing an additional 10 year appearance contract with the Angels than him simply chasing the cash as a player. The incredibly rich cable contract awarded to the Angels due to the sheer market size of LA and nothing else, allowed them to buy the Pujols legacy.

St. Louis Cardinals fans are well aware of that. An addition, subsequent to the signing, AP and his big-mouthed wife have unnecessarily burned a lot of bridges in a city that adored him.

I will be shocked if he doesn't go into the HOF as an Angel. They've bought him, his history and his legacy.

Big deal. The legendary St. Louis Cardinals franchise has plenty of their own Hall of Famers and is much bigger than any player, including Albert Pujols.

Cards are 2-0 without him, and have been impressive in getting there.

I’ve been to the OC Register office.

I don’t believe they have 70 reporters to deploy to one story.

Sure the OC Register is a voice for Freedom in a geographical area occupied by communist scum.

But 70? Just no.

He spent a good portion of time on the DL or playing like crap last year. I’m kinda vindictive and I’m hoping he blows out his elbow in the 4th game or something silly like that. I heard someone say that they think he’s a bit older than he says he is as well. He’s from the Dominican Republic, (I think) and they were saying that it’s possible his birth certificate might not be correct when it comes to D.O.B.
St. Louis is really loyal to it’s sports teams and players, just look at the reactions to the “one day trades” the Rams did, enabling Isaac Bruce and Torry Holt to retire as “St. Louis Rams”. But they also have a looong memory when they feel dissed.
Anyway, let’s make 12 in ‘12 this year, Go Cards!

I used to love going to games, until the prices went through the roof. 35+ bucks for a few hot dogs, cokes and beer?

They can KMA.

Considering they can't send one beat writer to follow the Dodgers or Big West champ Long Beach State (just across the freeway from OC), I doubt they have 70 writers. Also just laid off one of their columnists Randy Youngman.
