Ive written about the governments war on light bulbs, its rule against working toilets, and its prohibition of washing machines that actually clean, so I sometimes cover environmental issues.
But I usually limit myself to examples of silly radicalism, such as the crazy claim that climate change causes AIDS, a reprehensible example of EPA thuggery, and a column about pointless recycling mandates.
Notwithstanding these criticisms, environmental protection is a legitimate role of government. Simply stated, we dont want polluters to violate our property rights.
The challenge, of course, is how to conduct sensible cost-benefit analysis.
Where do we draw the line, for instance, on how much pollution cars should be allowed to emit? Or what are the best rules to ensure landfills dont pollute groundwater?
These are important issues, but I will admit a bias. I am instinctively skeptical whenever self-proclaimed environmentalists start pontificating.
In part, this is because everyone has an incentive to exaggerate. The business community will always say that a new regulation imposes astronomically high costs, while environmentalists will claim minimal costs and say that thousands of premature deaths will be averted.
Since exaggeration is omnipresent in Washington, thats not what really bothers me. My main problem with environmentalists is that they want to use so-called green issues to give government more power. And if you oppose them, youre an evil person.
Consider the example of Professor Kari Norgaard of the University of Oregon. She thinks youre mentally ill if you dont agree with her.
Just in case you think Im being unfair, here are some blurbs from a report in the UK-based Daily Mail.
An Oregon University professor has controversially compared skepticism of global warming to racism. The professor, who holds a B.S. in biology and a masters and PhD in sociology, argued that cultural resistance to accepting humans as being responsible for climate change must be recognised and treated as an aberrant sociological behaviour. Norgaard last week attended the annual four-day Planet Under Pressure international conference in London, where she presented her controversial paper to delegates on Wednesday.
Professor Norgaard wasnt the only oddball at the conference. The article also mentions that the attendees included a bunch of control freaks who want to force people to live in densely-populated cities.
The scientists behind the event recently put out a statement calling for humans to be packed into denser cities so that the rest of the planet can be surrendered to mother nature. And fellow attendee Yale University professor Karen Seto told MSNBC: We certainly dont want them (humans) strolling about the entire countryside. We want them to save land for nature by living closely [together].
The folks at the Commentator sent a camera to the conference. Heres a five-minute sample of what they saw.
But the folks at the conference werent even the crazies, or at least the really bizarre environmentalists werent part of the video. For instance, I didnt see the folks who dont believe in bathing, the ones who sterilize themselves to avoid carbon-producing children, or the ones who produce (or use) hand-cranked environmentally-friendly vibrators.
“...aberrant sociological behaviour.”
It’s hard to argue against the good professor’s obvious qualification in this area...
AGW is a small but well financed cult for white libs who carefully segregate themselves from the Left’s cargo cults. I assume it pays well since the carbon credit scam at least in Europe is a well advanced con job?
Obama's former "Green Jobs Czar", Van Jones, links "Green Movement" to revolutionary communist movement
See "Goal is complete revolution" below...
VAN JONES (Obama's former 'Green Jobs Czar')
"Valerie Jarrett, Senior Advisor to President Obama, speaks [lovingly] about Green Job Czar, Van Jones, at the Netroots Convention on August 12, 2009. Then Van Jones speaks about [a COMMUNIST] transforming [of] the whole society."
"Jones was the leader and founder of a radical group, the communist revolutionary organization Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement, or STORM. That group, together with Jones' Elle Baker Center for Human Rights, led a vigil Sept. 12, 2001, at Snow Park in Oakland, Calif.
STORM's official manifesto, titled, "Reclaiming Revolution," surfaced on the Internet."--via TheObamaFile
VAN JONES SHOCK ADMISSION [in his own words]: "Goal is Complete Revolution"
Here is the transcript of the above YouTube video:
Right after Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat if the civil rights leaders had jumped out and said OK now we want reparations for Slavery, we want redistribution of all the wealth, and we want to legalize mixed marriages. If wed come out with a maximum program the very next day, theyd been laughed at. Instead they came out with a very minimum. We just want to integrate these busses
But, inside that minimum demand was a very radical kernel that eventually meant that from 1964 to 1968 complete revolution was on the table for this country.
And, I think that this green movement has to pursue those same steps and stages.
Right now we say we want to move from suicidal gray capitalism to something eco-capitalism where at least were not fast-tracking the destruction of the whole planet. Will that be enough? No, it wont be enough. We want to go beyond the systems of exploitation and oppression all together. But, thats a process and I think thats whats great about the movement that is beginning to emerge is that the CRISIS is so severe in terms of joblessness, violence and now ecological threats that people are willing to be both pragmatic and visionary.
So the green economy will start off as a small subset and we are going to push it and push it and push it until it becomes the engine for transforming the whole society.

Here's the original source for the Van Jones quote about the time he spent in jail following the Rodney King/LA riots (Jones was arrested in "peaceful" protests in San Fran). It was in a 2005 interview he did with East Bay Express. They of course (what else?) claim he "renounced his rowdy Black Nationalist ways" since then (yet he's calling for "complete revolution" in Aug 2009! ...see above):
But in jail, he said, "I met all these young radical people of color -- I mean really radical, communists and anarchists. And it was, like, 'This is what I need to be a part of.'" Although he already had a plane ticket, he decided to stay in San Francisco. "I spent the next ten years of my life working with a lot of those people I met in jail, trying to be a revolutionary." In the months that followed, he let go of any lingering thoughts that he might fit in with the status quo. "I was a rowdy nationalist on April 28th, and then the verdicts came down on April 29th," he said. "By August, I was a communist."
Gaaawd; I’m so sick & tired of *libs* of their endless, mindless hate-America crap! Can’t we just put them all into an empty Petri Dish - probably where they came from - and throw it into the garbage - where they truly belong?
No wonder she's so frustrated and bitter. Bitch has never been laid in her life.
"Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal".--James (Jim) Cone,

SEAN HANNITY: But Reverend Jeremiah Wright is not backing down and has not for years and in his strong stance on the teaching of black liberation theology is nothing new. He had the same things to say last spring when he appeared on "Hannity & Colmes:"
WRIGHT: If you're not going to talk about theology in context, if you're not going to talk about liberation theology that came out of the '60s, systematized black liberation theology that started with Jim Cone in 1968 and the writings of Cone and the writings of Dwight Hopkins and the writings of womynist theologians and Asian theologians and Hispanic theologians, then you can't talk about the black value system.
HANNITY: But I'm a reverend
WRIGHT: Do you know liberation theology, sir?
Malik Zulu Shabazz, chairman of the New Black Panther Party for Self-Defense (NBPP):
"We believe in a Black first philosophy and a Black Liberation Theology."
Although it [The New Black Panther Party] says it sees capitalism as the fundamental problem with the world and revolution as the solution, the new party does not draw its influences from Marxism or Maoism as the original party did. Instead, in a carefully-worded, roundabout form of ethnic nationalism, they say that Marx based his ideology and teachings on indigenous African cultures, and that the NBPP therefore need not look to Marxism or Maoism as a basis for their program, but can look to ideologies that stem directly from those African origins.
"The Justice Department originally brought the case against four armed men who witnesses say derided voters with catcalls of "white devil" and "cracker" and told voters they should prepare to be "ruled by the black man." ..."
One poll watcher called police after he reportedly saw one of the men brandishing a nightstick to threaten voters.
As I walked up, they closed ranks, next to each other, the witness told Fox News at the time. So I walked directly in between them, went inside and found the poll watchers. They said theyd been here for about an hour. And they told us not to come outside because a black man is going to win this election no matter what.
He said the man with a nightstick told him, Were tired of white supremacy, and he starts tapping the nightstick in his hand. At which point I said, OK, were not going to get in a fistfight right here, and I called the police....

Racist is the new lib epithet of choice - it used to be “nazi” or “fascist” but “racist” has become the more common all purpose way of demonizing their perceived enemies.
Pretty much on the same level as a 3 year old calling someone a “poopy-pants” and carries about the same amount of logic.
Did she have her dental work done in the UK?
Did it herself to save energy and all.....
Maybe she didn’t have enough carbon offset credits?
Could that have been the problem, hmm?
Who would want to?
Well...White Hispanics are...
A close examination of the population control crowd will reveal it is THEY who are the racists.
Make no mistake, the global warming hoax is a product of the population control crowd.
I don’t think an ad saying, “If you don’t drive a Volt, you’re a racist!” would sell many cars.
Environmentalists are proof that Darwin was wrong.
