Mike Wallace, a pioneer of American broadcasting who confronted leaders and liars for the newsmagazine “60 Minutes” for four decades, has died, CBS News said. He was 94.

His death was announced on CBS by the anchor of its Sunday morning program, Charles Osgood. The network did not immediately specify when or where he died. Mr. Wallace had been ill for several years.

“If you saw that American Soldiers were walking into an ambush, would you warn them, Mr. Wallace?”

“No.”

60 Minutes was the premier news magazine, back in the day when we had journalists, not propagandists.

One of my favorite Wallace interviews was with a convicted car thief who had been hired to advise manufacturers on ways to improve security systems for vehicles. These companies came up with their best security systems, but time and again the thief was still able to break into the cars, pop the ignitions and drive odd with little difficulty.

So Wallace asked the convict, “what can I do to prevent you from stealing my car?” The thief replied. “don’t buy one.”

Rest in peace, Mr. Wallace.

propagandist who set a car on fire to fake a story and smeared a US Armey General, and helped cause millions of deaths in Viet Nam with his lies

HA! As long as those lying leaders had an "R" next to their names.

Talk about putting lipstick on a pig.

Oh. Sorry. Too soon to go insulting pigs?

That reply by Wallace was made during the Vietnam War?

My father served 1st Batt/7th Marines in Vietnam and was wounded badly near Chu Li, Operation Starlight.

Mike Wallace is dead.

Yeah, so's my father.

Everybody dies, but not everybody lives a life of honor, duty and fidelity to country.

It's the same when any of these toads die. It's like I'm driving by and see a dead animal on the side of the road. I say, " wow, that's too bad"....then I just drive on. This is EXACTLY like that as a matter of fact.

just driving off without even a millisecond of thought. Happy Easter, he is risen. Spread the GOOD word.

That was from a Ethics in media roundtable. Full of military types, media and religious people.
I remember it because there was a Vietnam war vet who lost both hands. They asked the military people if they would torture enemy soliders for info on the ambush. All the officers said no but the Vietnam Vet didnt even blink when he said “yeah”.
The vet had little love for the media. He also blasted Wallace and the other talking heads.

Mike Wallace, ’60 Minutes’ Pioneer

Title as shown probably (and perhaps accurately) reflects the attitude of many towards the journalist.

Nonetheless, he has been commended into the Lord's hands now...

Wallace later changed his response later in that roundtable.
