Posted on 04/09/2012 1:46:42 PM PDT by lbryce
Two sources told WFTV on Monday that gunman George Zimmerman could be arrested this week, and that a Grand Jury will not meet on Tuesday.
Zimmerman has been in hiding because of threats, after he shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin. He claims he shot Martin in self-defense.
Jacksonville State Attorney Angela Corey has the sole authority to determine whether Zimmerman will be charged for killing Martin.
Governor Rick Scott put Corey in charge of the case late last month amid concerns that State Attorney Norm Wolflinger wouldn't do a thorough and fair investigation.
"You've got to make sure justice prevails. I'm comfortable that the State Attorney Angela Corey will make that happen," Scott said.
In Florida, first-degree murder cases must be heard by a Grand Jury, which means Corey can only charge Zimmerman with third-degree murder, second-degree or manslaughter.
However, because Zimmerman fired his gun and Martin died, which means Zimmerman could still face life in prison without parole, WFTV found out.
Natalie Jackson is one of the attorneys representing Martin's family and told WFTV she wasn't surprised by Corey's decision.
"We believe justice dictates that he will be charged," said Jackson. "If justice and the procedures were followed, then yes, all of this could've been avoided."

I fear you may be correct. I thought it was an error in amplitude, but you say it’s an error in sign.
I've been waiting since 8:42:39 PDT April 9, 2012 for second of all, third of all...
Why would anyone with minimum proficiency of English use the term, first of all, if they have only one inane point to make?
Okay. Based on the tone, level of discourse you've conveyed I've decided to have pity on you and not respond to any more of your vacuous thoughts.
Testimony on the record will make it a near certainty. Let the mob clamor or not clamor. The hangers on will not follow the mob after a trial.
‘”It’s unreasonable to think that Mr. Zimmerman had any right to be afraid. The kid was unarmed,” said Black.’
Nonsense. Every able-bodied person with two hands and two feet has four deadly weapons at his disposal. I’ve also seen it well demonstrated in martial arts class that skill, speed and will to win outweigh size and physical strength.
TM was very likely in better physical shape than GZ, and was around five inches taller.
I do want justice to prevail in this case - what I don’t want is for the blatant race baiting and disinformation to succeed. If there is a full trial, it will be interesting to see the full facts come out. Maybe we’ll see an apology from Jackson, Sharpton, the media and the other race baiters. Yeah, sure we will...
“All Zimmerman has to do is make sure he gets some Whites and Hispanics on the jury then he get a hung jury if it makes it to trial.”
Yep. Then he will face a civil wrongful death lawsuit where he will likely lose any money he will make for the rest of his life to the Martin family. That double jeopardy loophole in our system is just wrong.
“Has Mittens Romney convicted Zimmerman yet? Santorum has.”
Santorum sure did, and that’s the main reason he vanished from my tagline. I still think he’s a better choice than Romney, but I’m not too enthused about him. He’s made a lot of missteps lately.
Uh huh. It worked like a charm in that first Rodney King trial.
It will not be enough to keep the peace. Once you start paying people to behave you are rewarding that bad behavior. It will only escalate. Payouts are like miracle-gro on anti-social behavior.
I was surprised Santorum immediately found Zimmerman guilty of murder.
Doesn’t Santorum have better handlers than that? We don’t need anyone else in the White House making snap judgments (acting stupidly) about local matters or any matters actually.
I hope so. I’m afraid he’s going to be a sacrifice to the race baiters out there.
911 operators are not law enforcement officers. I agree with you. That is not a reasonable conclusion.
Absolutely.. She only needed a grand jury if she was charging first degree murder. She is going for manslaughter as I understand it. One does not need a grand jury for that.
They may charge him with defacing public property.
Blood on sidewalk.
I think the “evidence” so far certainly supports manslaughter moreso than first degree murder. I do not see them proving premeditation. I agree re: the media circus. Also, because this is Florida, there is a greater chance the trial will be televised.
“I was surprised Santorum immediately found Zimmerman guilty of murder.”
So was I, unpleasantly!
“Doesnt Santorum have better handlers than that?”
He shouldn’t need handlers to give the obvious, common sense answer: “I’m waiting for all the facts to come out before offering an opinion on this case.”
“We dont need anyone else in the White House making snap judgments (acting stupidly) about local matters or any matters actually.”
Exactly. Further, his statement showed yet again that he doesn’t have as much savvy has he should, in general.
I am sorry if my post read like that. I was not giving my personal opinion on whether I think he is guilty or not. I was trying to say, if I was the prosecutor, looking at the evidence so far, I certainly would not want to go with first degree murder. I would go with manslaughter charges instead. Sorry I was not more clear. My personal opinion at this point is not important.
That’s precisely what I’m hoping for!
Why manslaughter? Do you feel he had no right to defend himself?
No they won't. The heels never feud among themselves.
If they riot - and we laugh at them - they will lose. The 50 so-called protesters ( most from around the country) in Sanford the past few days will slink back under their rocks...
A tire sale at Sears brings in more than 50 people... but if there's violence the 50 will turn into 500..
Dems want to gin up a riot - it works for them - they'll have their suck-up shills at the New York Times blame the whole thing on conservative whites - other newspapers will follow suit - and TV stations will imitate them... and Obama will be re-elected.
We need to be careful.
I vote the riot be held in the lobby and offices of the NYT.
Again, I am not talking about my personal opinion. I was talking about the law. An unarmed man was killed. The question is whether it was self defense. Or manslaughter. If charges are brought, I was saying I would bring manslaughter charges rather than first degree murder charges as I do believe one would have to prove premeditation and it is my opinion that does not exist. Nor was he lying in wait. I was simply considering charges based on the evidence as we know it. And more importantly, what the prosecutor knows. And she knows alot more than we do. I do believe charges will be brought and I believe that will be manslaughter. I do like what I have read about this prosecutor.
There you had a saturation campaign by the media of a fraudulent video; one showing only the few seconds when the officers misbehaved, and not the extended struggle that preceded those few seconds, and would explain how those officers were driven over the age by King’s outrageous behavior. Folks out in television land didn’t even know that the rest of the tape existed.
The jury, however, saw the whole thing, deliberated, and came to a reasonable conclusion, which was never explained to the public, which never saw the tape, only the one brief segment that standing alone seemed inexcusable. So the hangers on rioted for days, thanks to the media’s deceit.
In this case, however, the fact that the audio tape was doctored has been exposed in the media, which is now on the defensive. NBC claims that they didn’t intentionally doctor the tape to totally distort Zimmerman’s meaning.
Corroborated by eye witnesses and the full, undoctored tape, there is a good chance that Al and his band of career grievance-mongering disciples will be left without any rock and firebomb throwers to whip up. It could go the other way, but I truly think that the best chance for order and sanity to prevail is a trial.
Their clamor du jour is for a trial, but what they really want is to clamor for a trial that doesn’t happen, and use that as proof of a conspiracy.
BE ACUTELY AWARE: When he is arrested he may as well be sentenced. He absolutely cannot NOT be acquitted, under any circumstances.
It’s not “will be” non-crimes. Already happening.
Police to White Victim: We ‘Don’t Mess’ with Black Gang

Most of us have heard about how the media won’t report on black-on-white crime. We also may know that authorities sometimes sweep it under the rug due to political pressure, usually with a wink and a nod. But not so in rural Alabama, where the police actually told a white crime victim that they “don’t mess” with a local black motorcycle gang.
The tragic event that led to this shocking admission occurred on March 28, as truck driver Nick Stokes and neighbor Johnathan Cooper were heading out of Birmingham hauling a portable cabin. While rounding a curve, one of Stokes’ tires slipped and kicked up some gravel, which angered a black motorcycle-gang member who was in close proximity. The gangster — part of the notorious “Outcasts of Alabama” — gave chase and tried to force Stokes to pull over to the side of the road. Here’s what happened next, as reported by the Macon Beacon’s Scott Boyd, whose piece has been published online by J. Christian Adams:

Interesting. So now we have "no right to be afraid."
As well as no right to defend ourselves against an attacker who is pounding our brains into the ground ... because after all, the attacker might not have a weapon.
Have popcorn ready.
And this is different how? You do realize those that are doing the "clamoring" have their minds made up. They seek only CONFIRMATION not INFORMATION. No amount of retraction or clarification will get through to their closed minds. There is only one suitable result. Even then, there's no guarantee there wont be any celebratory looting.
The clamorers are not the ones you need to focus on. They’ll never go away, never change their minds. I met a bunch of them once in Crown Heights, and am happy to still be alive. But they can’t act all by themselves. The majority of any riot, pogrom or lynch mob is always made up of ordinary people who are angered at some alleged heinous act, and the clamorers are always there to push them a little further and a little further, until finally they become an angry, faceless mass with no conscience. If you detach them from the clamorers, have them sit down and watch the progress of the court proceedings, weigh the evidence themselves, they just might decide to stay home, to go home, to calm down and think.
An old friend and employer of mine, a female lawyer of the Chassidic persuasion, once was part of a press conference shortly after the events in Crown Heights. It was made up exclusively of Chassidic Crown Heights residents whose loved ones had been killed in car accidents, as her own father was.
She was speaking of that event when a large band of people, freshly egged on by the clamorers after the grand jury refused to indict Joseph Lifsh. They were all hot to confront her, and she managed to talk them down and disperse them with nothing but words and a bit of courage. I wasn’t there, but she told me about it later.
“What happens if they start a riot and the Whites they hate so much just laugh in their faces?
“Imagine if there was a war (or riot) and nobody showed up”?
Not much chance of a conviction. . .BUT. . .this way she can claim it was the jury that made the decision. . .that she arrested him and brought him to court. . .so, “Not my fault” can be yelled at the top of her lungs.
