SANFORD, Fla. —
Sanford police said shots were fired into an empty police cruiser on Tuesday morning in the neighborhood where George Zimmerman used to live and where Trayvon Martin was shot and killed. That news comes after sources told WFTV that Zimmerman could be arrested or turn himself in to police sometime this week.
Sanford police told WFTV shots were fired at a police cruiser on Retreat View Circle in the Twin Lakes subdivision.
A witness said she heard six gunshots ring out.
No one was in the cruiser at the time, according to police. The vehicle was taken to Sanford police headquarters. Officers are still investigating.

The protesters want Police Chief Bill Lee and City Manager Norton Bonaparte to be fired .. Chief Lee has already temporarily stepped aside.
Has this Lee been the police chief all along ?
He stepped down pretty early on in an attempt to defuse tensions.

SANFORD POLICE DEPARTMENT REOPENS
SANFORD, FL – APRIL 9, 2012 -- The public office of the Sanford Police Department has reopened following the departure of student protestors. The students had occupied the space in front of the police department’s main entrance blocking the public from entering the building. The protest followed a 40-mile march from Daytona to Sanford in support of Trayvon Martin.
Prior to the protesters leaving the scene, City officials, including the City Manager Norton Bonaparte Jr., and the Acting Police Chief Darren Scott, met with leaders of the student group and community leaders. From that meeting, it was decided that on Thursday, April 19, 2012, at 6:30 p.m., there would be a meeting of community leaders and city officials to discuss plans for healing the City of Sanford. The location of the meeting has yet to be announced.
