Nakwon Foxworth, who allegedly shot four cops this weekend, had an awful arsenal (barf alert)
NY Daily News ^ | april 10, 2012

It was illegal in New York, but thanks to lax gun laws in other states and Washington, the formidable weapon is a life-threatening commonplace in the hands of violent thugs like Foxworth.

He also had something much worse —which he could easily have grabbed if things had played out differently. Cops found in his apartment a sawed-off Ruger Mini-14 military-style semiautomatic rifle.

This weapon’s killing power is well known. Sometimes called the poor man’s assault rifle, the Mini-14 was reportedly the weapon of choice of Anders Behring Breivik, the Norwegian mass murderer who shot 69 mostly young people to death last summer.

The NYPD said the Ruger is so powerful, it could have pierced the ballistics shield carried by the first officer through Foxworth’s door.

A firearm this potent should be banned everywhere in the United States. No exceptions. But the federal assault weapons ban expired in 2004, and gutless congressmen under the sway of the National Rifle Association have failed to re-up it.

Oh yes! And other way-too-powerful rifles, too!

Since when is a Mini 14 chambered in 9mm?

Hmmm. Don't give me any ideas

The non-carbine Mosin-Nagant can be had for $99. Makes a .223 look like a hard sneeze.

How about the Mosin-Nagant M1944 carbine (Chicom Type 53) in 7.62x54R as a REAL “assault weapon”? The cartridge can shoot through a lot of building walls, punch police ballistic vests with ease, and has a really scary permanently mounted folding bayonet to terrify the NYPD and NYC media pukes.

Yep. I have shot steel-core ammo with my Mosin, and penetrated BOTH sides of a 4" steel galvanized pipe 25 yards away. Ban those Tsarist guns! Yeah, right. Molon labe, bitches.

For posterity, in case my posts there are deleted: ctd 11:37 AM Apr 10, 2012 The bigger issue is why, at age 33, Foxworth was not still in prison for his convictions for attempted murder, robbery and selling drugs. The problem isn't the availability of weapons, as most states permit ownership with few restrictions and suffer few incidents as a result. The problem is jurisdictions releasing known repeat violent criminals who will obtain and misuse weapons regardless of their legality. More relevant details at http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2126869/Nakwon-Foxworth-arrested-taking-pregnant-girlfriend-son-hostage-Brooklyn-shoot-out.html#ixzz1reU2tiI8 ctd 11:10 AM Apr 10, 2012 "Sometimes called the poor man’s assault rifle, the Mini-14" No it's not; either you made that up or are gullible to someone who did. Mini-14s run $600 and up, and are not designed for automatic fire. They were legal in FL (and most of the country) in 1998; newly manufactured ones sporting scary but harmless cosmetics were, but pre-"assault weapon ban" ones were still legal for private sale thru most of the country including NY state. That this one was "sawed off" means the owner performed a highly illegal (unless he submitted the correct paperwork and $200 tax, in which case the BATFE approved the change) alteration after an otherwise legal purchase. He's facing 10 years in prison for that. This story is full of inaccuracies and hype. A 9mm pistol and a .223 rifle makes for a pretty paltry "arsenal"; these are completely legal - even normal - in most states, and those states suffer few problems as a result. And before you jump on that statement, consider that cars kill over 50,000 people per year (no, it's not "different" that's fifty thousand dead and you're not concerned).

This Nakwon Foxworth character previously served 10 years in prison for robbery and was released in 2010. He would have only served a year or so for the robbery charge, but he was caught selling drugs in prison to other prisoners and was charged with attacks on other prisoners. He also served two years for attempted murder.

New Englanders look at this story and can't get past the "sawed off gun with a sniper scope firing *heavy* bullets", while Americans in the rest of the country ask what the hell goes on in New York where a career criminal only serves a few months for attempted murder.

Two years for attempted murder, but now facing ten years for cutting a pipe too short.

A Mini-14 is an arsenal? Stupid MSM.

Well, the did say it was an "awful" arsenal. As arsenals go, I might have to agree with that assesment.

Bedwetting lefty writer and NYPD feeding BS. The rifle isn't the problem. Have a look at the criminals. You'll spot the common theme. We don't need gun control. We need criminal control.

I have to agree with the "awful" remark. You have to spend some significant money on the mini-14 to make it a tack driver. The target model has extra weights on the barrel to cancel harmonics, a better crown on the barrel and slightly improved gas system. I really prefer a Savage bolt action with the precision trigger for accurate delivery of a .223.

I shot a friend’s Mini-14 and was NOT particularly impressed with the accuracy. It would be okay for room-to-room fights though.

*** The cartridge can shoot through a lot of building walls, punch police ballistic vests with ease,***

Cris Madsen, an old time Oklahoma sheriff, had a preference for the 30-40 Krag. It would punch through a moderate sized tree and nail the outlaw behind it.

Their heads would have exploded if he had been armed with a real rifle.

From my Vietnam experience: "If The Almighty had intended us to depend on the .223/5.56 rifle, He would have made all our enemies two feet tall"
