SPIN METER: Santorum looks moderate in 2006 flier
Associated Press ^ | April 10 2012 | ANDREW MIGA,

Rick Santorum boasts that his deep conservative values make him a stronger challenger against President Barack Obama this fall than likely GOP nominee Mitt Romney. It's an argument he is making in his home state of Pennsylvania, where a primary victory in two weeks is critical to a campaign already seen by many as all but hopeless.

Yet Santorum showed a considerably more moderate face in a campaign brochure from his failed 2006 Senate race in Pennsylvania. It highlighted how he steered big federal dollars to the state and teamed with rock star Bono to fight AIDS and global poverty.

Titled "50 Things You May Not Know About Rick Santorum," the pamphlet played up his role in boosting federal spending for food stamps, schools, heating aid for the poor, Amtrak, the environment and prescription drugs for seniors — programs more often championed by Democrats and derided by conservatives like the GOP primary voters Santorum now courts.

A sampling:

—"Rick has been one of the Senate's most active leaders in fighting for funding to battle world AIDS and to help eliminate world poverty, working closely with Bono, the lead singer of U2."

—"Rick is the author of the 'Pet Animal Welfare Statute' ... (that) cracks down on puppy mills, who harm animals at the expense of unknowing pet owners. Rick has been praised by the National Humane Society for his work on this issue."

—"Rick wrote legislation that would increase the national minimum wage."

—"Rick joined with Democratic Senator Chris Dodd to introduce legislation to battle Lyme disease."...

He lost his re-election bid by 18 percentage points, the first time the state had elected a Democrat to a full term in the Senate since 1962.

AP hilariously chooses to ding Santorum for being a closet moderate while obviously hoping closet liberal Willard wins the GOP nomination.

Ever ask yourselves why, closet Willard fans?

Yep. For all his flaws, Santorum would still be a big improvement from Obummer, especially if he chose a VP with some real charisma.

“Ever ask yourselves why, closet Willard fans? “

They know why. They don’t care. They are Fifth Column for various reasons.

Why is the AP still dragging this tired horse out if Milt has this thing wrapped up? I thought Santorum didn’t have a chance and his continuation in this race wasn’t worth anyone’s time? Looks like the Commie Pinkos at the Regimes House Organ are concerned the weakest GOP candidates might not get nominated. They have all their eggs in running against Milt.

The bad thing about politicians is that they are liars, I mean politicians.

I don’t know what it is about Washington, DC that makes politicians turn into liars but it happens almost every time one of them goes there.

I can only remember two of them that weren’t influenced by DC, Eisenhower and Reagan, all the rest, liars. Some worse than others but liars just the same.

I am of the opinion that Michelle Bachman would have been ok and I would love to see Ron Pauls son, Rand, in a few more years running for president.

I’m worried that this country is finished as we have known it, the Socialist have taken over, the do gooders and wealth spreaders are in charge and common sense has gone away to likely never return.

As long as we have people voting for increases in their portion of wealth re-distribution they will always vote themselves more of the pie. The mistake the founding fathers made was giving the vote to people who don’t pay taxes or own property. Those people are just like the people who abandoned their home who had no down payment, they had no skin in the game so they walked away.

I guess when you have the media and the Marxist politicians telling you the rich are stealing from you and holding you down and then having the education system verifying what they are saying it is only natural to vote the way the welfare recipients vote. Natural perhaps but still wrong.

Obama and his crew are the most evil group to hit Washington since Roosevelt.

I believe that Romney will likely be the Republican nominee, I will not vote for him in our up coming primary, but I will vote for him in the general if he makes it. I hope if he is it he wins big enough to have long coat tails so we can get the senate and that the TEA party people can force his hand to sign conservative bills so that they become laws. I used to believe in the tooth fairy and Santa Clause too though. It don’t look good folks.

Santorum voted to confirm Sonya Sotomayor to the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeal when Clinton nominated her knowing it would fast track her to the Supreme Court and, wouldn't you know it, she was Obama's very first choice. Even John McCain voted against Sotomayor's 2nd Circuit nomination. Rick cannot be trusted on judges.

That's his record.

He also did a TV ad trumpeting his proposal of a $550 million increase over the Bush Amtrak budget of $900 million, positioning himself as an independent voice for PA against the White House. 60% budget hikes? Gosh! What a fiscal conservative that Rick is!

That's his record.

Santorum's rhetoric is great. The problem is that it doesn't reflect his legislative experience. He has been a high spending, earmark enthusiast, big government senator. Check the record.

I do not support socialism under any name.... no more... our country is going down the tubes, and it is because people are so easily lead astray ( my socialist is not as bad as your socialist ) bullcrap... socialist is as socialist does... my name will not be put down as a supporter of socialism no matter who says what.... the only candidate close to not being a socialist is newt, the rest can go to hell, and take their big government socialist ways with them.

Wanna take the country back? Start today. Just say NO to socialism, period.
