WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama's campaign team attacked his likely Republican opponent, Mitt Romney, on Tuesday for not paying his "fair share" of taxes ahead of a speech by the president on why millionaires should bear a larger tax burden.
Obama's populist message is a clear swipe at Romney, the wealthy Republican front-runner likely to face him in the November 6 election, as the Democratic president seeks to appeal to blue-collar voters he will need to win a second term.
One of the richest men ever to seek the White House, Romney paid an effective tax rate of 13.9 percent in 2010 on more than $21 million in income. Obama's campaign is anxious to paint him as elitist and out of touch with ordinary Americans.

Obama is in full Alinsy mode.
We are all gonna be SOOOOOOOO sick of hearing the phrase “fair share” come November.
It has clearly been Focus Group Tested and Idiot Approved.
Or is in the came category as your birth certificate, college info, campaign donations and vacation expenditures?
I can’t stand Romney. I am not voting for Romney. But for the love of God, he pays capital gains taxes. The principle has already been taxed at the highest tax bracket. Whatever tax he is paying is a double taxation.
And Romney, he lay low.
so voting for Obama or maybe Roseanne Barr
The way for any Republican to reply is to question all the taxpayer money that the Royal Obama family spends on expensive vacations and Golf outings. The average voter understands that.
Hey Obamabutt, look in your West Wing, “Home of the Tax Evaders and assoreted other Clowns”.
I'm sick of Obama, et al, deciding for us what is our 'fair share' while his big ears and his wife's fat ass fly around on OUR DIME living it up like the hillbillies they are!
Pay more taxes so another governmental department can PARTY in Las Vegas for close to a MILLION dollars?! And then shove it in our faces by videotaping it?!
Republican reply? That’s an oxymoron. All you hear from that side lately are crickets.
The Dems never seemed, or seem, to have a problem with multi-millionaire Democrats Jack Kennedy, Teddy Kennedy, John Kerry, Diane Feinstein, or Nancy Pelosi, and the list goes on and on.
Team Obama loves "principled" posts like that here at FR. Enjoy paying your "fair share" when Barry gets another four years.
The Liberals who want everyone to pay their "fair share" HATE a flat tax.
And so does the Republican establishment.
Professional politicians like a progressive tax scheme because that makes it easy to pay off cronies and buy votes. The end result is that "who pays what" becomes a function of "who has a good accountant".
Says who? Tim Geithner?
Yep, and he chose to dock his yacht in Rhode Island rather than MA because the MA taxes were too high.
A lot of people who “paid their fair share” saw the GSA blow 850,000 dollars for a party in Vegas.
And, the majority of that income was from investments which are taxed differently than other earned income.
FUBO!
And so it begins, Romney will be playing defense for the duration of this campaign.
The liberals are keeping to their playbook, throw the accusations down and just keep on leveling them, ignoring any and all responses to previous accusations.
It’ll be interesting to see how or if the Romney campaign responds.
FUBO!!!!
I don’t give a damn about “fairness” - FIX THE FNG ECONOMY!!!!
LLS
“We are all gonna be SOOOOOOOO sick of hearing the phrase fair share come November.”
Totally agree. It’s like all their other emotional and meaningless buzzwords and phrases. Just keep saying it until the sheeple absorb it:
* “war on women”
* “millionaires & billionaires”
* “right to choose” (the cousin of “safe, legal & rare”)
* “social justice”
* “extreme”
"The truth is, in order to get things like universal health care and a revamped education system, then someone is going to have to give up a piece of their pie so that someone else can have more. " ~Michelle Obama
It won't be hard for Romney to turn this around and he does have a well planned and financed campaign this time. Which is much different that what we were stuck with in 2008.
So the Democrats smear machine are already in a deep hole that they dug all by themselves.
Politics of envy. Envy is simply passive greed. So tired of these envy baiters acting like they are holier than thou.
Don’t forget economic justice as codified in the new Homeland Security manual. We are SO sliced and diced.
I’ll take an elitist over a socialist any day.
You are correct. The 13.9% “taxes” Romney paid IS NOT his entire tax contribution-—it just looks good for “headlines!” Romney paid A LOT higher rate on his taxes, each year. (The news media ALWAYS “forgets” to count the tax rate the rich pay on capital gains!!! Which is what, another 30-35%? Then ADD THAT to the 13.9% and you have a tax rate not too far off from 50%.
Your choice isn’t elitist vs socialist. It is socialist that hates to work vs socialist that loves to work. I don’t know which is worse.
"Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and his wife Michelle gave $10,772 of the $1.2 million they earned from 2000 through 2004 to charities, or less than 1 percent, according to tax returns for those years"
Then interact on FoxNews if you are looking to sing “Kumbaya” with the Republican Party crowd.
Romney should slam Ubama and the Wookie for spending more than their fair share of taxpayer loot on personal vacations.
"Republicans dismissed the speech as a political stunt and complain that increasing taxes on the wealthy would do nothing to create jobs or lower gasoline prices at the pump, which are the issues they say ordinary Americans care most about."This is yet another sign that they're out of ideas and simply focused on tax hike show-votes," said Mitch McConnell, the top Senate Republican.
"This is all the president has left to fix the economy - a plan to divide America with a tax that will raise one tenth of a percent of his spending spree," the Republican National Committee said in a statement."
It's a Tuesday (read: empty news day) process piece, it's fluff, it's nothing we haven't heard before from Axelrot. Why, in fact, it reads like a bare rewrite of press releases keyed on a morning appearance by some Bobo banana on a (as it turns out, sister) network. And lo and behold, who is buried at the very end of the article:
"We have a tax system that's rigged against the average person, rigged in favor of the very wealthy. We need to fix that, and this Buffett Rule will address that," Obama campaign adviser David Axelrod told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" program."
If the mere mention of "Morning Joe" isn't worth a chuckle, google 'Buffet Rule fact check' for a real laugh. Or resume bedwetting, whatever...
What's your source for this claim? "Romney pays a 14-15% tax rate, lower than many taxpayers." - http://www.forbes.com/sites/kellyphillipserb/2012/01/24/romneys-tax-returns-are-remarkably-unremarkable/
Maybe you should put some clothes on and collect a clue, noob.
2010 Biden & Obama Tax Returns
2009 Biden & Obama Tax Returns
2008 Biden & Obama Tax Returns
The 2011 returns should be posted next week.
And people tend to forget that there was a time Americans did not have to pay Federal Income taxes!
Alright. But quite a bit of his info is sealed. Suffice to say that very little is known about him, where he came from, or who funds/ed him.
Right. And Obama had Rezko the Crook's help with his real estate purchase. And who paid Obama's college expenses? Enquiring minds want to know. We do know that he didn't bother paying his parking tickets until he decided to run. Seems like Obama doesn't pay for much of anything.
"Obama received 17 parking tickets in Cambridge between 1988 and 1991, according to the city's Traffic, Parking & Transportation Department. Of those tickets, he paid only two while he was a student and paid them late, said Susan Clippinger, the office's director".

Well, you seem very concerned that dear leader not be disrespected.
take a look at BO’s 2010 1040 tax schedules D and E [for instance] and see if you notice that there appear to be the uneven darkening and lightening of some lines for certain “line” items on these forms and elsewhere. wondering if this document has been selectively edited from its original, besides the obvious deletion of the social security numbers?
Also, what about their form 1116: “Foreign Tax Credit”? where did that bit of change [$1571 dollars] come from? could that be from any foreign bank accounts; tho, they [or their surrogates] are attacking Romney for having a Swiss bank account? note on line g of the same Form 1116 that their CPA has put “various” for the names of the foreign countries or U.S. possessions where they have had “taxable income or loss from sources outside of the U.S.”
