Say this for John Derbyshire – he thinks what he thinks and doesn’t care who knows it. In fact, he’s willing to give an interview to arguably one of the most likely sites to be hostile on the internet. To that end, Derbyshire has given his first interview after being let go by National Review for writing a racially controversial article to the hipster-focused website Gawker, on the condition that they not censor any of his answers. As it turns out, that’s not a problem for them. Here are some of Derb’s most interesting observations:

I liked working with NR. (”With,“ not ”for”—I was never a salaried employee, just a freelancer with an “understanding” that they’d use my stuff when suitable. It follows, by the way, that I was not “fired.” I don‘t think you can fire someone who’s not an employee.)
A lot of the PC left is just hysterically deranged. Why read stuff by deranged people? I’d rather play FreeCell.
I’m more at ease in a room full of Chinese people than I would be in a room full of black American rap artists. And my personal predilections aside, I think the big division in our society is always black-nonblack. The other stuff—Hispanics, Asians—is a bagatelle by comparison. This makes sense paleoanthropologically, too: Homo sap. first left Africa, then differentiated into other races.
I may even just give up writing and work as a butler or something. I sometimes feel I’ve said everything I want to say.

That's one of the more interesting comments I have ever heard. There is also the very real aspect that a room full of Chinese people are not likely to rob and beat you for being different.

There are times when stuff happens like the white guy coldcocked and stripped of everything -- I mean everything -- while onlookers cheered and laughed.

But NOBODY is stopping them. The neighbors and witnesses are moral accessories to the atrocity. There maybe only a small percentage of black thugs that will beat and rob you, but a large percentage of blacks that will not come to your aid, will not call the cops and will even protest if the thug is arrested or shot. A community must police itself, a family must police themselves as every individual must. In the black community none of this happens and many of the churches just stir the rabble.

The above is a very good definition of the denizens of FeralTown, USA general populatoin. While they may not be the violent Urban Ferals, they support them.

Our President and Attorney General hate white people.

Race relations haven’t been worse in my 58 years.

It's a very big country, so a lot of people do get beaten for being different and for other reasons.
I've been reading/listening to Derb for years now. This is not the first time he's talked about "The Talk". I thought it was an exercise in pointing out the obvious double standard, which is being thrown in our faces quite violently right now by the New Black Panthers and the Congressional Black Caucus, that white people can't get away with saying the things black people say every day. Rich Lowry just proved the point.
The way I see it, what NRO did to Derb is the same thing NPR did to Juan Williams. It was wrong then and it's wrong now. If Lowry believes John Derbyshire is racist he should have stopped printing his stuff years ago. He's had plenty of opportunity. Why bow to the PC gods now?
I think NRO has gone establishment. They're trying to move center, away from conservatism. I'm going to reserve judgment until I hear what Mark Levin has to say.
Did you read what Lowry wrote about Zimmerman. He sounded like MSNBC
NRO is finished.....or soon will be. It is already hurting.

My subscription to NR expired and I didn't even notice it. I don't miss it now.
It's been my contention for quite a few years that there are considerably more black racists in this country than white racists and the politically correct retort that most of the black on white crime has little to do with black attitudes toward whites is pure wishful thinking.
What the real statistics concerning the underlying causes of black on white crime are no one knows but you can be sure that black racism is one of its major causes.
The way I see it, what NRO did to Derb is the same thing NPR did to Juan Williams.
NRO is NPR just as DNC is GOP. It’s no wonder the “smart” elitists are so stupid, destructive and mean. They talk amongst themselves from the point of view the size of a pea.
I do think the constant head nodding in politically correct circles causes brain damage. They all need to be replaced by people not suffering from brain damage so we can get some thought and debate for American-American reform going in this country.

So it's not the firing might make these "the same thing." It's whether what they each said was bad enough to make firing appropriate.
Personally, I'd love to see a table made with JD's claims and assertions in the first column, and perhaps five black "The Talk" articles distributed throughout the other columns showing parallels, with the primary difference the race of the person writing.
I suspect the black Talks are often much more bigoted and racist than what John said.
I think John was ODing on his meds when he decided to publish this, but I doubt it was satire. It's what he really believes, and most (not all) of it is difficult to argue with empirically.
