As state leaders hope for a surprise uptick in revenues this spring, state Controller John Chiang reported Tuesday that California lagged last month by $233.5 million, or 4.2 percent.
The state missed its target most in corporate income taxes, which were $125.8 million (8.2 percent) off the mark. Income taxes and sales taxes were each less than 2 percent behind Gov. Jerry Brown's revenue forecast.
For the fiscal year that ends in June, the state is now trailing Brown's expectations by nearly $1.1 billion, or 1.9 percent.

No prob. They can make 2+2=5
They have already spent the money they “expected” unrealistically.
If CA politicians could just find a way to get enough of our money, they could solve all of our problems.
Hope isn't a strategy, but it is all the Dems have left.
When gasoline prices go up the sales tax on gasoline goes up. In spite of this, overall sales tax revenues are down.
California should start squeezing taxes out of the dead beat illegal aliens. Go to a California swap meet and you will see tons of Mexicans working the underground economy and evading taxes. If you want to know what a second 0bama administration will be, look at California. The liberals in California (the majority of the population) believe that there is a bottomless pit full of rich people’s money.
No Problemo...just increase the cost of tickets on the high speed train from Buttonwillow to Fresno
Brown and the labor unions are at odds with each other as Brown tries to get the budget to a manageable level.
Unions are the storm troopers of socialism.
The enemy of my enemy.
Force more millionaires to move into state and then tax them up the wahzoo. Whatta ya mean it doesn’t work like that? King BOZerO should just decree it so.
Wow. Corporate taxes down that much. I guess that doesn't bode well for jobs and the future. Businesses are fleeing CA like rats getting off a sinking ship. Welcome to the Third World.
Hell, businesses are MOVING OUT, not into that socialist state.
I’m surprised CA does not have “MOVE-OUT” Tax. They have taxed everything else.
Maybe the Hollywood crowd will help make up the difference.
Greenmail... Just sue a few more out of state companies for some contrived reason.
Or sue people who’ve moved out of State, claiming that they really haven’t moved out of State. After all, who would want to move out of California?
The first six days of April 2012 pulled in 1% less than the first six days of April 2011.
This does not sound like much, but is is huge (not hugh). The state should pull in at least 5% MORE than last year because of inflation (nah, that does not exist) and population growth (that does exist from births - deaths + immigration outweigh move outs).
So there's a 6% gap.
CA is so toast, I want to get some marmalade out.
The problem is that they haven’t driven enough taxpayers out of California yet.
I wasn’t happy when Jerry Brown was returned to the governorship, but it’s poetic justice. The last time he was Governor was when California’s decline began due to his leftist appointments & policies. Now that he’s governor again, he has to clean up the mess he started.
