We're All in Trouble
The American Spectator ^ | April 10, 2012 | Quin Hillyer

Posted on 04/11/2012 4:12:31 AM PDT by BO Stinkss

Now we will put to the test what was always an odd claim, namely that Mitt Romney is well positioned and well equipped to defeat Barack Obama this fall. This is a man who lost by 17 points to an incredibly weakened Ted Kennedy (people forget how vulnerable Kennedy was that year) in one of the most pro-Republican years in history, 1994 (the same year in which Rick Santorum won yet another upset victory); a man who would have been handily defeated if he had run for re-election as governor of Massachusetts in 2006; and a man who could barely squeak past his GOP opponents this year despite running almost non-stop for nearly six full years and despite outspending all of them combined by at least a 2-1 margin, while outspending each of them individually by at least 4-1 and running ads that were 90% negative against them.

Plus, he's a perfect caricature for Obama's anti-corporate-elite message to take root. Plus, he's plastic.

The GOP establishment -- the money men, the consultants who so repeatedly spread the message that only Romney could beat Obama while they angled for a piece of the lucrative campaign pie, the hangers-on and officious kingmakers, and the cultural elitists who secretly share much of the big media's cultural attitudes and disdain for middle America -- now must prove they can actually deliver a victory. If they can't, the GOP should have a figurative bloodletting that banishes them forever from party power.

Nonetheless, every conservative, and everybody who loves this country and cares about its traditions, its Constitution, and its freedom, should do nothing other than help that establishment succeed....

Conservatives would do far better for themselves to hold their noses and work hard for Romney than they would if they stood back, stayed home, and watched the forces of Big Government complete their extreme makeover of American society.

Letting the country burn just because your candidate for Fire Chief didn't win is NOT an option.

I don’t know if it makes sense to go third party. We did have a lot of success primarying out RINOs in the past couple years. We just couldn’t muster the kind of fundraising or other power to do it in the presidential primary. I think it makes more sense to have our own funding apparatus that can back a real conservative candidate in the primary next time. And starting earlier and getting endorsements lined up earlier will help. Taking over the existing machine still seems like it would be easier than creating a new one.

More important than defeating Obama is defeating the entrenched parasitic RINO establishment.

Because otherwise there is no party for conservatives.

Conservatives will still exist in 2016 and if they succeed in purging their party of RINO democrat infiltrators, they will have a party to take back the country.

But supporting Romney means selling out one’s conservative values for an ‘R’ label.

Romney will support gay marriage.
Romney will support abortion on demand.
Romney will appoint liberal justices to the Supreme Court.

But it does not matter what Romney will do because he will lose to Obama.

So we will have 4 years of Obama.

If the GOP can take control of the Senate, keep the House, then conservatives can stop much of what Obama will attempt to do.

In the meantime, the GOP establishment must go.

“He’s not a RINO, he’s an outright democrat running as a republican. We may as well have Joe Lieberman as our nominee.”

I read comments from other sites saying the republic depends on electing Mitt Romney, and waving their Republican bloody shirts. The fools are just taking a bite out the same turd sandwich the Republican losers have cooked up for us again and again. The GOP is throwing the game again, as they did in 1996 and 2008.

Romney is a stooge. If elected, his rhetoric would be different, but his actions would be exactly the same as Obama’s. The GOP did this on purpose. They can't even act the part of opponents anymore. They don't even pretend well.

I agree wholeheartedly. I WILL NOT VOTE FOR MITT ROMNEY! I am now a Constitution Party member. Hope Newt comes on over in 2016.

Does anyone have the article that showed how romney/gop changed the way many of the states delegates were allocated to help romney? I think Florida was split, but was changed during the election to winner take all? Blue states tended to be winner take all (they knew romney would get the liberals) and red states were split, so romney would get some. I would love to see who helped him with this. I know some people who worked his campaign in certain states helped with that state changes. Thanks

I agree wholeheartedly, RitaOK. I WILL NOT VOTE FOR ROMNEY! I am now a member of the Constitution Party and hope Newt comes on over with us and seeks the Constitution Party nomination in 2016! The Republican Party is now officially dead....at least as far as I am concerned.

oac, I can’t do it this cycle. In the event of a worse case scenario, where the people don’t reverse Romney’s gains and finish this primary for Newt to be able to broker a convention, and we see Romney getting 1144, I am not in for a communist this cycle. I’ll have to take the socialist Romney.

I can’t do it to the memory of my WWII parents, nor my little grandkids.

Talk to me after the general. I am all in for a Third Party, with a shrewd operator to lead us. We have to find him/her. (HER being doubtful, on the shrewd.) Not cute, but shrewd and politically accomplished.

To quote Pelosi: “Romney, we just have to vote for him to see who he really is!!!”

Too bad we can’t vote for “None of the Above” like in the old Richard Pryor movie.

***** Get over your crying in you beer soon, because by not getting behind the ONLY OPTION AVAILABLE, you ensure the destruction of America.

There is a vast difference between Obama’s “Burning the House Down” and Romney’s POTENTIAL for inadequately maintaining the home.

There will be no America to save in 4 years, if Obama stays in office. ******

I 100% agree with you, Larry. I'd like to say I don't like Romney either, but we're left with 2 choices. It's either Obama or Romney. So, which do we want? For me, the choice is very easy. I'd vote for Bill Clinton before Obama...I'd vote for Carter before casting a vote for Obama.

My attitude is... In 2012, it's ANYBODY, but Obama.

If Romney doesn’t keep up the scathing attack ads when he faces Obummer, we’ll know for certain that he really is a Dem in RINO clothing.

During his failed race against Teddy K, I remember my amazement at how Romney NEVER used any of the truckload of negatives he could have thrown against the Swimmer. Romney just smiled sweetly and stayed positive, and got what he deserved.

I’m still holding out hope for a brokered convention. GO NEWT!

If the election is so critical then maybe a serious conservative candidate should have been nominated. Have fun voting for the ghost of Thomas Dewey. Mark Levin has already jumped on the whore bandwagon for Romney. Ameritopia and Liberty & Tyranny are in the trash. All the cult members can vote for RINO. That’s the choice two fake Christians: Liberation Theology and a phony baloney Mormon.

Romney won a state-wide office as a republican in Massachusetts. This is a rare And wonderful thing even if he is a RINO

Apparently, you're unaware that Republicans held the governorship the eight years before Romney took office.

Or that Romney's failures were so great that the Republican party held less seats in the Massachusetts legislation after he was done than at any time since the civil war. That is a sneak peak as to what will happen to the Republican party nationally if he is elected.
