Prosecutor Plans Announcement as George Zimmerman's Legal Team Calls It Quits

A special prosecutor promised "new information regarding the Trayvon Martin shooting death investigation" within 72 hours, prompting speculation that the alleged shooter, George Zimmerman, could be charged soon.

The announcement that the prosecutor, State Attorney Angela Corey, would soon hold a news conference came just hours after Zimmerman's lawyers said they would no longer represent him.

Corey said Monday that she will not present the case to a grand jury; she retains the power to decide herself whether to press charges against Zimmerman in the shooting.

Zimmerman's lawyers Craig Sonner and Hal Uhrig said today they were withdrawing from the case because they had lost contact with Zimmerman, who is refusing to answer their calls, texts and emails.

"We're not taking the position that we're leaving him," said one of the lawyers...

prompting speculation that the alleged shooter, George Zimmerman, could be charged soon.

. . . Or not charged. Why make a big announcement on a document-dump Friday at the end of Spring Break, unless you want it to sink without a trace?

And if you were concerned about a subject being a flight risk, it seems to me calling the shot 72 hours in advance would be poor tactics.

Unless the 911 audio, perhaps put together with testimony from some not-yet-intimidated witnesses, made it not feasible to prosecute Zimmerman at all. The reason I say that is that on the audio, Zimmerman tells the 911 operator that he's left his truck and is following the subject on foot. But the fatal scuffle occurs back next to Zimmerman's truck. How? The only way that could happen is if Zimmerman walked back to his truck while talking to the operator or shortly thereafter. How did Martin get there? He had to have walked there—rather seeking the safety of his dad's mistress's condo. Which means he was seeking the confrontation with Zimmerman.

Well, that puts Zimmerman on defense, with injuries to show for it, and a legal gun. And it could be Martin's body didn't show a scratch, other than some ventilation in the thorax region. Not much to prosecute there, in a state with a "stand-your-ground" law.

Maybe the special-prosecutor lady has decided there's no case. That would leave it to the racial mind-readers at the Federal level, hoping for a civil-rights violation. They probably will try to make something of it, Rodney King-style. But I don't see they have much to work with, evidence-wise. This is Internet world now. It's harder to make stuff up or keep it quiet. More info about the kid is bound to come out—such as his burglary and drug habits. If they drag this out, it will be very bad for 0bungler's re-election.

Something’s going on. He's acting like a guy with a lynch mob after him, and wants to just get the hell outta town.

All we know is that the Z-man is lying low and that he stopped communicating with two particular lawyers.

No big deal.

That might be how it was done in your day, but is not how it is done these days

Really? My day is not quite over but neither is Obama's.

I can see that I leave sarcasm tags off at my peril

I don’t know the details (obviously) of Zimmerman’s mental state, but it seems like he is panicking just as the big heat is going to come down from Uncle Sam.

I think you are getting played.

My guess is the retainer ran out. GZ was not responding to their calls because the calls were demands about getting more money, which GZ didn’t have. The lawyers wanted to milk this for some free publicity so they did a press conference and put the blame on GZ.

As for the lawyers, who admit they have only talked to George by phone, they may have been replaced by someone that has been retained through connections with the father. Hence no need for George to continue communicating with them. They then have their little “last moment in the sun” press conference instead of just saying ‘we were fired’.

That is precisely how I read the situation yesterday as I watched their press conference. The lawyers lost the spotlight and the potential big score and were disappointed.

Acting? He IS a guy with a lynch mob after him, and when that lynch mob includes the Attorney General of the U.S., he’d better get out of not just the town, but the country.

After all, according to Holder, the Black Panthers can do no wrong, and they want him dead or alive.

Hey, George. If you are out there still in the U.S., I hope you read this:

I hope GZ, whom I admire, is in Peru, his mother’s birth place.

Since his mother was born in Peru, he is a dual citizen. But if he hasn’t made his Peruvian citizenship official, he needs some one...and anyone can do it…it does not require a lawyer to get an official copy of his U.S. birth certificate...have the BC signed off verifying it’s official validated by some designated official in Washington D.C. …I think it’s with the State Department or some other asses…but I can’t remember…and mail it to him in Peru.

His mother’s birth certificate is already on file in Peru; therefore, he does not need anything else…not his father’s BC or his parents’ marriage certificate.

He is then good to go.

He is NOT going to commit suicide. For one thing he has most likely been raised in the Catholic faith which would play against any suicide decisions, and from what I have read he is a stable person, strong on law and order. He may be killed and it may be staged to look like a suicide...and someone collect the bounty. It will take years before Zimmerman can go anywhere without looking over his shoulder. I recommend he leaves the country for an indefinite period...especially in this “blacks can do no wrong” administration. He must have Peruvian relatives on his mother’s side who can assist him if he moved there for an indefinite period.

I have always liked Chesty Puller's reaction at Frozen Chosen when told that his unit was surrounded, "Good, they won't get away this time."

To really entertain the Amish, I suggest the tracks be sticky and the blade dull so it sticks about half way through his neck. The Illegal and Holder would really love that.

Read some speculation on another site (so take it with a grain of salt). That since George Zimmerman's father is Jewish

Hah! Such morons infest the net! What was their agenda?

Fact is, George was an altar boy:

In Manassas, where Zimmerman lived in the 1980s and 1990s with his parents and two siblings, neighbors tended to define the family based on their spiritual profile. “Very Catholic . . . very religious,” their neighbor Jim Rudzenski recalled Thursday. The children attended All Saints Catholic School on Stonewall Road through the eighth grade before going to Osbourn High School. George became an altar server and evening receptionist at All Saints Catholic Church. The Zimmermans “were known and respected in the community for their dedication and service,” said Robert Cilinski, pastor of All Saints Catholic Church.

Just heard (1200 radio news) that Holder made a statement that if the evidence proves it necessary, Federal Civil Rights charges would be placed. Would think that with all the ‘hard working reports and news agencies (BARF)’ on the case, the evidence(?) should be clear. Al (call me REV) Charleton introduced Holder at a rally in DC ‘sponsored’ by Al and attended by T. Martins’ parents.

Does nobody see anything wrong with the Attorney General of the US appearing at a rally FOR Trayvon Martin? If this clown brings civil rights charges against GZ it will point to his own preset bias in this case.

I sure hope you’re right, but I am not yet convinced.

Although. she may be waiting 72 hours to help law enforcement setup for the riots that will likely come if he is not charged.

Regardless, I expect the Feds to eventually charge him for civil rights violations - a politically motivated charging and trial.... he could still go to prison.

If that's the case, and I hope it is, she better get out of town too. You watch that explosion and aftermath. People in that area better be armed to the teeth. (imho of course)
