Mitt would govern as conservative (And I have a bridge to sell you)

Conservatives shouldn’t fret about the politics of their nearly-presumptive nominee. Mitt Romney will most certainly govern as one of them. He’s guaranteed to — for the exact reason they think he won’t.

If Romney really is the political animal his detractors on the right suspect him to be, he’ll shape his presidency with a single goal: Winning a second term. To do that, he will need to make sure there is no running room on his right for someone to launch a primary challenge.

4 years of Romney might be bad, but 4 more years of Obama would be certain disaster. I would expect Allen West, if asked to run with Romney, will do what’s best to save the country he served in uniform, and not concern himself with political “stench.”

Nope. He’ll have toadies like John McCain and Linsey Graham cheering him on for every leftist thing he does and encouraging “compromise” with the left.

...And calling moderate/liberal positions conservative... thereby detroying what true conservatism really is.

I’m sure Col. West would willingly sacrifice himself. He’s done it before. But I’m not so sure we should keep sending conservatives to the slaughter, especially to help liberals, while the left (socialist republicans and democrats) have no problems making sure our people die politically.

To do that, he will need to make sure there is no running room on his right for someone to launch a primary challenge.

Then why didn't he do that this year?

Next time will be the same as this time. Romney will find and maybe even fund several slightly more conservative challengers to split the conservative vote.

If he has conservative challengers in the primary, he can use that to promote his moderate credentials in the general election. He'll be the very compassionate compassionate conservative. (Yes, I intended to repeat compassionate).

My hope is that someone like Allen West, not afraid to speak his mind, would take Romney aside and caution him to “don’t go there” from time to time.

From the article:

But, again, Romney can’t flip back, without drawing observations that he has a spine of gelatin. There is no riper topic for enticing a single-issue primary opponent than abortion. Romney will likely pay an expensive price for appointing any judges who happen to find a right to privacy in the Constitution.

If Mitt Romney wins the general election without major conservative support, why would he feel any obligation to please them once in office? He will have already shown that he doesn't need their support to win, so he would be free to follow his political instincts which are to the left of moderate. Why risk offending a bunch of moderates to appease conservatives who will never trust him anyway?

Romney would face no major conservative challenger in the 2016 primaries, no matter how poorly he governs. As incumbent President, Romney will hold the power in the Republican Party and will never allow the conservative movement a chance to take root. If you think the party establishment is hostile to conservatives in this election cycle, wait until Romney influences who holds the major positions in the party. Given the opportunity, Mitt would fulfill the long Romney-family dream of driving a stake through the heart of Goldwaterism/Reaganism.

Not just SC, but at every federal court there will be a need to appoint Constitutionalists.

“One thing Mittens has is a healthy dose of Capitalism gained from years of work in the private sector—I say give him a chance.”

And what proof do you have to back that contention? He was a venture capitalist and not a hands on manager. Bain Capital made as many bad deals as good ones.

And he used government money to “turn around” the Salt Lake City Olympics. After they were over the city still suffered economically. Now they just had more empty buildings to board up. I visited the city after that and it’s downtown was a ghost town.

Mitt has no chance of winning.

WE ALL KNOW THIS right now.

Romney is the most unpopular Republican nominee in the history of the party, and he is going up against an incumbent who has a popularity rating of over 50%.

The RNC should be proud of their alternate universe stance.

I am not.

The RNC should be proud of their alternate universe stance.

They should be quite proud of themselves, since they are continuing a 24 year streak. Since 1988, we have had nothing but liberal Big Government RINOs getting the nomination - George H. W. Bush (Romney Supporter), Bob Dole (Romney Supporter), George W. Bush, John McCain (Romney Supporter). The two times the Republicans have won - George H.W. Bush, and George W. Bush, we have ended up with a larger, more expensive government that was turned over to the Democrats. In the case of George W. Bush, he increased the size, power, expense, and intrusiveness of the federal government more than any President before him. Obama has taken it upon himself to beat Bush's record.

So yeah, the RNC/GOP are very happy to try and give us yet another Big Government RINO who will happily expand the government if given a chance.

Both Obama and Romney want to take us down the road to Hell (socialism) and the only difference between them is how fast they are driving us.

Clearly, Romney has no principles. Therefore, it is just as wrong to say that he is a liberal as to say that he is a conservative.

very true. keen insight.
