Gingrich Unloads on Fox News in Private Meeting
Real Politics ^ | 4-11-12 | Conroy

Posted on 04/11/2012 5:15:16 PM PDT by VinL

- During a meeting with 18 Delaware Tea Party leaders here on Wednesday, Newt Gingrich lambasted The Fox News Channel, accusing the cable news network that employed him as recently as last year of having been in the tank for Mitt Romney from the beginning of the Republican presidential fight and singling out former colleagues for attacking him out of what he characterized as personal jealousy.

“I think Fox has been for Romney all the way through,” Gingrich said during the private meeting at Wesley College to which RealClearPolitics was granted access. “In our experience, Callista and I both believe CNN is less biased than Fox this year. We are more likely to get neutral coverage out of CNN than we are of Fox, and we’re more likely to get distortion out of Fox. That’s just a fact.”

Gingrich’s contract as a Fox News contributor was terminated last spring, as he was gearing up for his White House run.

The former House Speaker’s blunt remarks about Fox came in response to a question from one of the Delaware Tea Party leaders about the manner in which his campaign has been treated by conservative media outlets.

Gingrich did not pull his punches in accusing Rupert Murdoch -- the chairman and CEO of the News Corporation, Fox News’ parent company -- of pushing for Romney behind the scenes.

“I assume it’s because Murdoch at some point said, ‘I want Romney,’ and so ‘fair and balanced’ became ‘Romney,’” Gingrich said. “And there’s no question that Fox had a lot to do with stopping my campaign because such a high percentage of our base watches Fox.”

Gingrich saved his most personal condemnation for George Will, a conservative columnist and frequent television commentator, who has been critical ...(read more)

Your analysis is painfully accurate.

I remember the GOP-e back in ‘94 being horrified with Newt’s tactics that eventually handed them their first Congressional majority in 40 years. Nothing but a bunch of wusses. But what’s our alternative?

Aren’t you bang on. I use to love George Will, whose tongue can be as sharp and incisive as Newt’s, but he has long become a social player in the DC media shark tank.

I respect Greta. She is a real gum shoe and goes with the story as it is, and then beats it to death, avoiding shaping the story. (Until someone tries to spin her.)

Even wondered if her husband doing some work for the Palin team added to her finess in giving the conservative message a fairer hearing.

The rest of the FOX team are mostly carnival fare now.

True Newt was given time on Fox, but with that it was really obvious they were in the game for Romney way back when...Hannity and others made that clear just by the questions or comments they made....

So I do have to say though they might not have claimed they were for Romney...it was clear they favored him...and still do. IMO.

I will never forget George Romney and Nelson Rockefeller’s vicious campaign to keep Goldwater from being elected in 1964. What an eye-opener. We naive conservatives were shocked out of our socks to see Republican liberals actively working against conservatives.

Sorry. Wrong. Newt...and Rick...and Rick...and Michele...and Herman...and even Huntsman got plenty of favorable ink on Fox News whenever they did something worthy of mentioning. Which wasn’t very often. Even Santorum got over-hyped when he would win a given contest but still lose ground in the real race - the delegate count.

I concur with Larry Sabato’s assessment from a few days ago. Many of the R candidates were only in it to burnish their name recognition, future political ambition and speaking fees, etc. Newt is especially included on that list. He never ran a serious candidacy. As in working for two years beforehand raising money, building an organization, getting on all the ballots. And NOT taking off a month last summer to go on a month-long Mediterranean cruise.

I thought Perry might be a player but he bombed out in the first debate and never recovered. Not ready for Prime Time.

We got what we got, folks. Let’s work it and beat Obama.

You are among the few who get the bigger picture than just the harranguing.

You are absolutely right that the RINO GOP-E deserve a smack down and the only wheels we have to deliver that smack down is now with NEWT, and not by closing out the primary early.

The media has launched their own false narrative campaign against us because they despise Newt and they despise us.

They are lieing outright to kill off conservative contenders and collapse our protest. All this with but only half the delegates even captured yet, and even fewer delegates who are yet committed. Go figure.

We need to go to convention with some firepower to have a prayer for conservatives concessions from Romney, if for no other reason, and this is what Newt is seeking. And money to get there, of course. LOL.

You're absolutely right. A few days ago, before he took his long weekend, Santorum was saying he wasn't concerned about Romney's edge in funds because the people of Pennsylvania knew him. "The people of Pennsylvania know me," is how I think he put it. Then apparently he got some bad internals, bad enough to scare him off. At least the low poll numbers proved Santorum was right about something for once, the people of PA do know him.

Right on, right on, right on. Newt speaks truth to power.

Fox has really been on his case since he made schooled lawyer Megyn Kelly on a legal question in one of the early Fox News debates. But it’s not just Fox.

Nearly the entire “conservative” press hates him more than even the larger lamestream media does, hence his comment that CNN isn’t as biased as Fox is. Hew right, as far as treatment of him and the other Romney opponents goes.

Along with Fox, National Review and the Washington Examiner have been hyping Romney and bashing Gingrich since day 1 of the campaign. All of the writers at American Spectator, with the exception of Jeffrey Lord and Aaron Goldstein, have also been attacking Newt all during the primary season. Add Michelle Malkin and Hot Air’s Tina Korbe and Allahpundit to the list. They really hate Newt. At Human Events, Ann Coulter has been trashing Newt (and Sarah Palin), and we all know who Ann’s been rooting for.

What were until recently reliable right of center news outlets have become corrupt tools of the GOP establishment.

Because there is an argument that the 14th Amendment confers citizenship and that is construed as natural born citizenship.

No matter how wrong the argument might be, it must makes its way to the SCOTUS unless Congress passes a resolution which is not going to happen soon.

So the issue is DOA for now.

However, if Sheriff Arpaio can release more damning evidence or obtain a grand jury indictment on Obama or the culprits who forged the legal documents, then attention will be drawn to citizenship and hopefully the public will be made aware of the distinction between ‘citizenship’ and ‘natural born citizenship’ (born on US soil of two US citizens).

Such a divine event could propel Newt to the top of the list along with Santorum. Romney would be damaged goods possibly contraband to the convention.

For myself, the longer Newt stays in, the more fun I can have jabbing those who continue to recycle his premature political obituary.

And, with firm conviction that the fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree, I always hold the hope that Romney will repeat the mistake of his father— and utter some “brainwashed” gaffe.

Realistically, the detractors may some day get their wish, and Newt might withdraw——but not today.

Here is my letter to Fox News from January:

January 12, 2012

Gentlemen:

I have watched Fox News for many years. I recently have noticed a huge shift to being disingenuous, false and unreliable in your reporting. Obviously, you are for Romney. Many of your viewers know Rove is associated with a SUPERPAC which is being used by Romney against Gingrich called “Restore Our Future.” Yet he is brought onto Fox as an analyst who supposedly is neutral. Furthermore, your station quoted the nonpartisan tax center as being an authority in their criticism of Gingriches tax plan. Because I have been noticing your obvious bias in your reporting, I looked on the internet to investigate this center. Guess what? They are liberal and not worthy of Fox News to use as a credible source. Gingrich has sent out a legal notice to the media warning them not to show ads by Romney which falsely say he was fined in the 90’s. After Gingrich sent out this legal notice…..lo and behold….I saw Shepherd Smith yesterday LIE and say the Speaker was fined. I have heard chiding remarks by several people on Fox such as Brit Hume saying Gingrich has “road rage” and Ann Coulter on Redeye saying “Gingrich is crazy, you know.” For the sake of brevity, I am not listing all the instances I have seen here. I am astounded to see such bias, viciousness, unprofessionalism and downright false news reporting from a station I depended on to get my real news. The fact that I know your true agenda now makes me want to tune out more than tune in and I feel quite disappointed to learn that you cannot be relied upon for the truth. I have literally switched to CNN or MSNBC when I wanted to see a particular speech or event now that you will not show and I have not watched them since the 90’s. The way I look at it now …what is the difference between them and you when you quote liberal sources as legitimate? I guess it took this election to open my eyes to your station and now I know your news is not reliable. I will never quite view Fox again in the same way. Your credibility is in the toilet now and I cannot believe you think your viewers are that stupid. By the way, Stephen Moore with the WSJ has called for Newt to stand down and save his dignity. Well, with you people dragging him through the mud every day what does he have to lose if he stays in? Today I saw Fox show that old false ad that Newt warned media not to run or there will be legal ramifications. You showed the whole ad. I would think your station would abide by the law and have some ethics in your reporting but that will not happen when you are trying to push Romney across the finish line. Destroying a reputation for your own agenda shows me it is you who has no dignity. Why am I still watching your station? Well, I like to find out what you are up to so I can stay on top of it and let others know.

Sincerely,
A disappointed viewer

Fox News Bashing Newt Gingrich:

1-14-2012 Charles on Fox financial show calls Newt a crybaby. “He can’t help going to the Bain Issue.”

1-14-2012 Judge Jeanine with Sarah Palin “Newt got booed for criticizing Romney

1-17-2012-Megyn Kelly on Fox. (1:05 pm est) She showed what Newt said to Juan Williams. She asked several people if Newt would get a bump from last nights debate. Some raised their hands yes. Of course, Megyn called on a woman who said no. Megyn asked her why. The woman said “He the absolute worst guy to represent us! He is an old, fat, rich, white guy.”

Because they aren’t and never were conservative, livius.
There is a distinct difference between the GOP and Conservatism, the latter represented by belief in Constitutional principles.

Of course there are some GOPers who are conservative and VV...but they are becoming a rare breed.
