The Rev. Jesse Jackson joined local ministers and Houston Congressman Al Green at a news conference Thursday to call for an end to Stand Your Ground-type state laws across the nation and an end to gun violence.
The presentation at the Metropolitan Christian Methodist Episcopal Church came one day after George Zimmerman, a central Florida neighborhood watch captain, was charged with second-degree murder in the February fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin. The teens death has sparked an international outcry for the arrest of Zimmerman, who was released from police custody based on Floridas Stand Your Ground law. Numerous Justice for Trayvon rallies and protests have been held in Houston over the last few weeks.
Lets not forget that Mr. Zimmerman represents a first down, not a touchdown the beginning of a process. But far beyond him, the victory is not in how long he stays in jail. The victory is in repealing these draconian, stand your ground, self-defense, vigilante laws, Jackson told reporters and others attending a ministers conference. These laws incentivized vigilantism, take-the-law-into-your-own hands, kill or be killed. Thats beneath the civility of a great nation.
Green clarified that although Texas does not have a typical Stand Your Ground law, the group is calling for the repeal of the Castle Doctrine relating to self-defense.
The Castle Doctrine, as you know, has to do with ones home, but weve extended the Castle Doctrine beyond the home and while we dont call it Stand Your Ground you might recall that the Castle Doctrine was used to justify a homicide in Pasadena where two persons were shot outside of the mans home after the man was told not to go outside, Green said, referencing the 2007 Joe Horn case.

Self defense is verboten.
Oh, I see, they are wussing out now because we got the guns, so we got to stop laws favoring the guns, only allowing Affirmative ACtion “civil disobedience”, flash mobs and other sorts of vigilante behaviors...
They are trying to rally Romneynites against conservatives, all the while attacking Romney, who will soon be hated by liberal GOP who will vote Zero, and hated by conservatives who will vote for him despite it all.
As he stands behind his armed guards.
the irony is tragic
I call for an end to destructive black savages destroying once great American inner cities.
Translation: Our youth should be able to loot, pillage, rape and assault "whitey" without having to live in fear of being shot while committing these acts.
No. Jackson is not against new felonies committed against private citizens.
Jackson is against private citizens defending themselves.
I'm glad I didn't say that.
I call an end to Jessie’s big fat mouth. He can take his panther bros with him.
Jesse’s peeps are feeling the heat from these kinds of laws. The FBI says violent crime has dropped off dramatically.
“Metropolitan Christian Methodist Episcopal Church”
Wow. They must be very ‘diverse’.
Debunking the stand your ground myth
where’s his divinity degree from again?
Given the number of black on black defensive shootings going on in Detroit these days, I’d have to say that Jesse Jackson hates black people.
How else can you explain his wanting to leave them defenseless?
“Detroit woman kills intruder in her home.”
I didn’t read anything about Jackson condemning the blackkk panther guy’s dead or alive poster. Maybe the author just forgot to report that part.
The predators have become the prey and they don’t like it. Florida has the lowest crime rate in 40 years... proof these laws work. That’s why they had to go to Florida to try and change the law so they can have their race war and try and get the voters to come over to the dark side.
Jackson is a political puppet who will say or do anything for more wealth, power, and free chicks.
These laws should be called the “Whitey Has Had Enough and Is Ready To Fight Back” laws....
