N Korea rocket launch reportedly fails
LA Times ^ | April 12, 2012 | 4:22 pm | staff

North Korea launched a three-stage rocket from a missile base near the west coast city of Sinuiju today, claiming that it was carrying a weather satellite of purely civilian use.

Its projected trajectory was almost due south on a course 150 miles east of Shanghai. The second stage of the rock was to splash down east of the Philippines, which prompted Manila to cancel northbound flights as a precaution.

Initial network news reports said the rocket failed during flight.

Thanks for the graphic.

It seems like the parts landed about where the first stage was supposed to come down.

In-flight explosions that terminated several tests of Iran’s Shahab-3 ballistic missile might indicate that Iran is developing an electromagnetic pulse (EMP) warhead. Testifying before the US Senate Committee on the Judiciary’s Subcommittee on Terrorism, Technology and Homeland Security on 8 March 2005, Peter Pry, a senior staff member of the Congressional EMP Commission, said that these flights were reported to have been terminated by a self-destruct mechanism on the missile. “The Western press has described these flight tests as failures because the missiles did not complete their ballistic trajectories,” he told the subcommittee. “Iran has officially described all of these same tests as successful. The flight tests would be successful if Iran were practising the execution of an EMP attack.”

It may well have been the "First Secretary" himself! But of course, he will push the blame downward and people will go up before the firing squad for this.

Dispondent DPRK TV announcer this afternoon at the Noon news, coming clean with their foul up:

They will say something stupid like, "even the Party and the People's beloved rocket, yet an inanimate object designed for world peace, was so overcome with grief over the recent passing of Comrade Kim Jong il, and also filled with emotion over the anniversary of the birth of the Great Leader Comrade Kim il Sung, that it to, broke down in tears and just could not complete the mission, ending in a fiery burst of beauty and respect for the fallen great Generals who have led our people."

Really. They talk this smack. Heck, even they could employ me as a consultant to write their crap, I know their minds so well.

Telemetry, AWACS, Cobra Ball monitoring, Aegis monitoring, recovery of fragments off Geunsan Port, behavior of the DPRK press handlers (they were apoplectic) before the journalist corps, all of these will go into analysis as to whether it was a planned explosion per EMP test as has been suggested or whether it was an unexpected FUBAR.

You can’t make this up. If somebody in Hollywood inserted this phrase into a movie script, he would have been laughed off because it sounds so bizarre even in the movie world.

"Clinton Democrats negotiating with Bernard Schwartz to get him in touch with NK."

Exactly. North Korea needed those treasonous scumbags Bill and Hillary Clinton chinagate connections along with Bernard Schwartz and Loral.

Didn't know that: in which case, could they have done a sabotage like we did with the Russian pipeline under Reagan?

Cheers!

I know the feeling.

Alderon’s Revenge, my first and only attempt at launching a self designed and built three stage rocket also failed. As it gained altitude on the first stage, it veered off the vertical and when the second stage ignited turned parallel to the ground, directed toward the picnic area on the nearby hillside. The third stage fired and buried into the ground.

The Park Ranger came running over with instructions to be careful.
