OXFORD, MS -
(WMC-TV) - An Ole Miss Law Professor says the public needs to wait for all the facts before making judgments in the shooting of Trayvon Martin.
After watching Reverend Kia Grandberry live on Action News 5 Thursday morning, Ole Miss law professor Samuel Davis was irritated with one of her comments about George Zimmerman.
Davis said it is those types of remarks that are plaguing the case.
"Now that he's [Zimmerman] been arrested, we want a conviction," Grandberry said on Action News 5 Thursday morning.
"That's what bothered me," Davis said.
Take one look around Samuel Davis' office and you can see his passion for justice. Law books line his shelves and his desk is covered in bobble heads of past and current Supreme Court Justices.
In this case, Davis worries that justice may be taking a backseat.
"That's what bothers me about this case that there seems to be a rush to judgment," Davis said.
When Davis heard Grandberry's comments about Trayvon Martin's accused killer, he told us he was irate.
"Looking for a conviction here you're assuming the crime of second degree murder has been committed and that there is no defense of self defense here which at this point we just don't know," said Davis.
Zimmerman appeared before a judge Thursday for the first time since he was charged with second degree murder.
"There is probable cause to believe that this person committed the crime with which he's charged," Davis continued. "That's not proof beyond a reasonable doubt; that's why we have trials."
Zimmerman claims he shot the 17-year-old in self defense.
"If it turns out George Zimmerman doesn't have a broken nose, doesn't have a wound in the back of his head, then he has a very poor case in trying to make out a self defense claim," Davis said.
No matter what is decided in the controversial case, Davis warned the public to wait for the all the facts.
"There were only two people really know, who were present when this confrontation occurred, and unfortunately one of them is dead," Davis said.
Zimmerman will remain behind bars in Florida until his attorney requests bond. That is expected to happen before Zimmerman's next court appearance on May 29.
The Rev (sic) Granberry is a hateful bitch.
The Rev (sic) Granberry is a hateful bitch.
After her sick press conference, I would venture to say that the ‘probable cause’ is only, repeat ONLY in the prosecutor’s mind and that she aboided a grand jury because she knew she was going to sacrifice George Zimmerman for little barry bastard’s re-election campaign.
Actually it doesn't. As Alan Dershowitz pointed out, it doesn't even come close to establishing probable cause for 2nd degree murder. The affidavit contains NO evidence regarding the stringent culpablilty elements of a 2nd degree murder charge. He shouldn't even have to put up a bail.
Obama and son's race relations 2012 with a lot of help from the MSM
If at first it don't seethe try, try anything ethical or not to make it seethe.
We need an affidavit about NBC's patented cherry-bomb journalism.
Is The Prosecutor Trying To Throw The Case?
when she mentioned havign talked to ‘those sweet parents’ i lost all hope of impartiality. you KNOW her mind is made up.
they should call her AMTRAK because she’s on a railroading mission now
When will people realize that when Sharpton, Jackson, Holder, etc say “justice” they mean conviction or death. They don’t mean a fair trial that could possibly end with an acquittal.
One thing this whole episode has revealed is how much pent up hatred some blacks have against other races. The Martin case is just a symptom of a large problem. Even if Zimmerman were to be convicted which is unlikely, this hatred will not be appeased. When this case collapses watch what happens. Anybody cancel their Florida vacations yet?
The New BlacKKK Pampers need a Whitey to lynch, and “white-Hispanic” George Zimmerman is going to have to do.
Both sides of this mess have been trying this in the court of public opinion.
This prosecutor has used this affidavit as an application to the Mike Nifong legal firm.
Dershowitz called her irresponsible and unethical. She has left out major parts of the evidence. If Zimmerman has a good lawyer this prosecutor will have to fight to keep her law license.
FOXNEWS needs to start a running total at the bottom of their screen that shows HOW MANY YOUNG BLACK hoodies have been murdered since the Zimmerman self defense.
If Trayvon’s death was senseless, racist, and cruel, are these other murders logical, pure, and humane?
I’m betting that number is into the hundreds, easy...
Perhaps, but the defendant's side of this wasn't exactly championed by any media outlet, politician or celebrity, was it?
The whole affair seems like a perfect example of that old quote:
"A lie can be halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on".
The Fifth Amendment states that "No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury..."
Surely being accused of murder and facing a possible penalty of life imprisonment makes this an "infamous" crime. (At least that's my opinion...but I'm not a lawyer.)
Sean Hannity is the only important media person that I know of who has championed Zimmerman. Possibly Greta has been fair. Ted Baxter has basically accepted the MSM version. Judge Pirro is clearly anti-Zimmerman.
No violation here. Fifth amendment right to Grand Jury only applies to Federal Courts. Most states allow charges to be filed either by grand jury indictment or by the prosecutor filing a charging information.
Frankly, we don't know the truth of what happened. And based on various rules of what evidence may or may not be allowed during the trial, we probably will never know.
If George Zimmerman prevails, those with a worldview that aligns with Zimmerman's will claim justice was served. Those on the other side of the issue will claim justice was denied. If Zimmerman loses, the inverse will happen.
But at this point, Zimmerman may be the only person who will ever know exactly what went down.
