SAN FRANCISCO — George Lucas' empire is striking back in its long-running battle to build a palatial film studio in the pastoral hills north of San Francisco.

Lucasfilm Ltd., the force behind the Star Wars movies, shocked Marin County on Tuesday by announcing that it is abandoning the controversial Grady Ranch project, citing bitter opposition from neighbors and delays in the approval process.

The company said it would build its new digital media production studio elsewhere and hopes to sell the historic farmland to a developer interested in constructing low-income housing.

I love it. I loathe both groups. I have zero sympathy for Lucas, who is the very picture of limosine liberalism. Remember before the 2008 election, when he said that he based the evil Empire from his movies on the United States government? To hell with him. It’s kind of like the Spanish Civil War, where you had Communists vs. Fascists. Why help either side? Grab some popcorn, sit back, and watch them destroy each other.

The only downside is that undeveloped Marin is beautiful. and nothing is less attractive than section 8 housing.

Your contribution is noted, Lucas.

Obviously the “empire” does not decide what is developed, where.

Corporatists (fascists) are not the dictators they wannbe in the US. These are the slimy idiots who put the left in power in California in exchange for “cooperation.”

They are mad because the leftists did not jump through their hoops and order this community to develop as ordered by the “empire.” All their authoritian tolerance is in exchange for their favor among the centralized “rulers.”

IMO, “Libertarian” corporate egos suck. They should have moved where they were welcome to develop without the leftist ghetto housing temper tamptrum. They should act as real adults running a real business...

The “libertarian” commies expect special powers over all others since they are the ones who put the left in power in California. Real adults would just move the business to a more friendly place instead of tossing a homo tizzy.

“Dale said any proposed housing development on the property would have to be “suited to the zoning, the people who live here and the people who come here.”

That’s Marin County speak for No Section 8 or Blacks allowed. They’ve been using Green Laws to keep low income out for years. I’ve been to the Ranch twice. It is not the great melting pot up there.

Corporatists (fascists) are not the dictators they wannbe in the US.

Actually, they very nearly are.

I do agree with your remark that leftists like Lucas assume they'll get a pass when they want to do something. Its amusing to see them tripped up by the same attitudes they themselves share toward anyone else.

They should have moved where they were welcome to develop

I say the same thing all the time. Why would anyone in their right mind build anything in California? Build where they want you. If that happens to be China, or Dubai, or North Carolina, so be it. Wasting a decade of your life trying to get permission to build in a place where the planners have run amuck is simply not worth it; life is too short. Take your money and your jobs and your technology and go where they are prepared to work with you.

I've been involved with a couple of industries that were leaving the US and I understand exactly where they are coming from.

I don’t think it is real cute when lefty corporatists threaten communities with communist housing in revenge for not meeting their development demands.

As the prissy sh!ts move out of the US to get even with those who disobey them to communist China, I look forward to the day that China’s current system of one party slave labor explodes and they get a load of problems that are not burdened by the American justice system and population.

Really, I look forward to the political and social ideology of globalism to bite the stupid, self serving corporatist traitors in the azz. It’s going to happen. Communism and poverty is not Utopia. They are cutting off their noses to spite their faces in the long run.

These azzez just needed to move on to Texas or some other business friendly state rather than playing their fascist politics in California against a commmunity. They will pay.

I don't blame the neighbors.

We have enough development and people here in California to last for another 50 years.

I say you encourage them to most their crap to Texas, and build there.

The greedy corrupt developers who hire nothing but illegal aliens will enjoy the wind swept plain of Texas...Not so sure about the Hollywood types though.

Good luck trying to convince everyone to move to Texas.

If I could, I'd send ya 10 million tomorrow.

Meant to say, I hope you encourage them to move their crap to Texas, and build there.

Just watch out for the wealthy corrupt developers...I can guarantee you they'll build 20,000 greedy marts across the wind swept Texas plains, which will all be owned by Muslims...To feed all the illegals who will be living in the 20,000 5-story pink apartment buildings the greedy developers will build across the flat lands of Texas.

In fact, these criminal developers hire nothing but illegal aliens, and will turn the Alamo into a medical clinica for pregnant illegals if ya turn your backs. Trust me.

I encourage all greedy commercial developers to leave this state.

You've obviously never been to Marin City, a major source for pimps who find the naive daughters of lefty entrepreneurs prime pickings for their stables, and drug dealers to the rich and famous, or visited East San Rafael, where only illegal Hispanics dare live, and which supplies dish washers, gardeners, and manual labor to much of Marin.

If that were all, I might have been able to stomach it. It was more than I could ever say, but for the most part it was the plastic, mindless, groupthink, shallow, pseudosophisticated, conformist, Leftist, stiffling, oppressive, suffocating, decadent, self-congratulatory, basically mendacious atmosphere that bored me into a panic.

There are wonderful people in Marin, though they are vastly outnumbered, and it's beautiful. But I couldn't wait to get out. I'm so glad I did.

I worked for the Republican Party. Every time I put up a "Vote Republican" sign, it was jerked down fast, no matter how inaccessable. When I put them up late at night, they were down by morning. This was not true in San Francisco; the signs stayed up.

At the gym, the conversations overheard were mostly self-congratulation. "I took my kids to _________. I wanted them to know that things everywhere are not like they are in Marin."

There is so much that I love about Marin, but that Leftist attitude is just too oppressive.
