CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) -- Venezuela's leftist President Hugo Chavez is skipping the Summit of the Americas, heading off a potential face-to-face confrontation with Barack Obama.
Venezuelan Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro tells state-run Venezuela Television that Chavez has decided to avoid the summit at the recommendation of doctors. He is scheduled to return to Cuba on Saturday to continue treatment for cancer.

This breaking news just in, Generalissimo Hugo Chavez is still valiantly holding on in his fight to remain dead.
That makes one less dictator Obama will have to bow to at the conference.
Chavez is gone by July.
Anyone know what kind of cancer this guy has? Sounds like some sort of abdominal cancer, but I still don’t know.
Much as I hate Chavez and everything he stands for, I can not wish a horrible death upon him.

I saw an article where doctors were speculating that it was a sarcoma. My aunt had a sarcoma - discovered when, luckily while still relatively small, it caused her pain. The ‘cure’, if you are going to get one, for a sarcoma is surgery. This thing puts out ‘tentacles’ & it is very hard to get ‘clear margins’ if the tumor is very big. Chavez had a baseball size tumor & it evidently recurred after surgery - this is really bad for him. Sarcomas do not respond well to radiation or chemo - the only chemo that is anywhere near effective is also ‘cardio-toxic’ so there is a limit on how much you can get. My aunt is past the 5-year mark (the doc gave her limited chances to make it that far) & that is due to a small tumor & ‘clear margins’ after surgery, plus the cancer had not metastasized anywhere. Sounds like Chavez is not so fortunate.

Not so fortunate indeed. The Cubans cut him open, found the cancer, waved and said "Hey there, feller!" and sewed him back home with Casto's promise that "Everything looked great!"
When Chavez gets to hell, he can swap stories with Che Guevara on how Castro deals with competition.
Fact is, the Cubans have more than likely lined up the next strong man, someone far more compliant, possibly with the nod of the Chinese. We'll see who steps up when Chavez snuffs it.
