(Reuters) - Singer Robin Gibb, a founding member of the disco-era hit machine the Bee Gees, is in a coma surrounded by members of his family in a London hospital, British media reported on Saturday.

A spokesman for the 62-year-old, who has been battling cancer and recently contracted pneumonia, was not immediately available to comment on the reports.

"Our prayers are with Robin," an unnamed family friend told the Sun newspaper, which first reported the news.

"He has kept so positive and always believed he could beat this. Sadly, it looks like he has developed pneumonia, which is very bad in his situation."

Barry Gibb was the epitome of the 70s male. I still see videos from back then and think he was incredible hot.

I had a big thing for him.
My best friend liked Maurice.

But from before I “liked boys” and now since I’m older, their voices just make me swoon.

He was gorgeous. I used to work with a guy that looked somewhat like him, unfortunately, he was a jerk.

I don't care if Stayin Alive is disco, it's a great, perfect rock'n'roll record!

It’s funny because I adored Andy Gibb, but it was through Andy that my tastes changed from boys to men when I saw him sing with his older brother, Barry.

The Bee Gees got started as a sort of 1965 Beatles, when the Beatles were no longer 1965 Beatles. The same Everlyesque harmonies, nice melodies. Then they moved forward, and came up with an incredible album titled Odessa. (All this from mem'ry, I suspect the knowitalls of Wiki know it all better!)

Andy and Barry looked alike, but it was indeed Barry and Babs. He produced her 'Guilty' album and sang two songs with her: 'What Kind of Fool' and 'Guilty'.

I actually like Barbra back then, long before I knew how batsh!t crazy she was.

Andy Gibb sounded awful in live performances.

I must disagree, based on the time I saw him live in 1981 or so -- he was brilliant; completely attuned with the audience. He was living with Victoria Principal then. I was so saddened by his death.
