DALLAS A Transportation Security Administration (TSA) official has been charged after being accused of stealing eight iPads from luggage at Dallas/Fort Worth International airport, KXAS-TV reported.
Clayton Keith Dovel, a baggage inspector, has been charged with theft by a public servant and has been suspended by the TSA.
"The unacceptable behavior of this individual in no way reflects the dedication of our nearly 50,000 transportation security officers who work tirelessly to keep our skies safe," TSA said in a statement obtained by the station.
One victim of Dovel's alleged thefts is University of Texas at Arlington student Borna Maira, who told KXAS that his iPad went missing when he traveled through the airport in May 2011.

“charged with theft by a public servant”
Seems that particular charge should have much broader application!
Neal Boortz often tells the story of eye-witnessing a TSA agent stealing his iPhone from his tray, then walking off with it.
It was done where the employee knew there was no video coverage, but Boortz saw it from a few yards away, and immediately called out, but the employee, who was going off shift, just kept walking away.
Boortz was told to calm down, and was taken away to another area. He was told the employee was going off shift (duh!) and could not be recalled. He was given a form to fill out. He even had the employee’s name from his badge, but it didn’t matter.
The thief stole it just so casually. Just wait until you are about to clock out, steal something, and bolt.
The victim can shout about it, but can’t do Jack, since the victim cannot leave the people corral to follow the thief.
A perfect crime, perfectly easy.
Gotta love that TSA.
This guy looks like a good, solid SEIU union member. Remember, former Senator Tom Daschle said, “You don’t professionalize unless you federalize.” Looks like the professionalize meant “professional thieves”.
I’m still trying to get my mind around the article about one of the NY airports where the belly of the planes were like “yard sales” with all of the baggage and other personnel picking out the expensive looking luggage, opening it, and taking whatever they fancied. Yeah, TSA is great.
If you hire ow life scum, you get lowlife scum. This isn’t rocket science.
Recruit from the Boy Scouts next time. Only the Scouts would refuse to strip search old ladies and wheelchair-bound toddlers, and they happen to know their Constitution.
No, to find the new Nazi thugs who will just follow orders, you have to go into the ghettos and get the low life scum who will follow orders without asking questions. You can’t train the sheeple for the coming hard police state without softening them up a little, can you.
Hire lowlife scum, you get lowlife scum.
Who is surprised?
TSA = Thieves Stealing Anything
With pay I bet.
“The unacceptable behavior of this individual in no way reflects our nearly 50,000 transportation security officers,” TSA said in a statement obtained by the station. “We have child molesters, burglars, rapists, peeping Toms and sexual assault felons as well. They aren’t all mere robbers.”
“in no way reflects our nearly 50,000 transportation security officers”
Yes, it does, you dumbass! It’s called public image, and it DIRECTLY reflects our over 50,000 unnecessary baggage thieves. Quit making excuses, and clean up your damn outfit!
buncha low-life azzwipes
How difficult would it be to install tracking devices in electronics to be used as bait?
The TSA has caused much more damage than it ever could have prevented. From thefts to unconstitutional virtual strip searches, the TSA has been given free reign to do whatever it likes in ‘securing our skies.’
The reality is that it is a government endorsed thuggery. So far as ever been announced, the TSA has managed to arrest thousands of Americans at their airport ‘security screenings’, also known as evidence gathering operations, and those people have been incarcerated or fined millions of dollars for the most inconsequential of things.
Meanwhile, had airline security been empowered to refuse service, an entire airplane of people, along with all those killed and injured at the Pentagon would have been saved.
The TSA does nothing to secure anything; they are simply a federal evidence gathering team for prosecution of Americans.
Disband the TSA, return security to the airlines, and empower them to deny service to anyone for any reason. The hijackers out of Washington DC were stopped by security, and subjected to intense screening - one even had his bag checked for explosives. If those security personnel had been able to, I doubt they would have let any of them onto the plane.
And stop the illegal search, seizure, and theft from Americans.
Dedicated to thefts and gropings.
Has any TSA agent ever caught even one suspected terrorist??
At this point, they ARE the terrorist.
HAHAHA!! Book that guy for a spot on Comedy Central!
I’m still betting the people who had their stuff stolen are still SOL unless they file a lawsuit against the TSA.
It’s interesting to me that we have our entire bodies scanned and radiated, and not one square inch of our bodies is off limits for grabbing...
yet somehow they can’t manage to put these thieves under video surveillance.
From a hanging tree is only acceptable suspension for creeps like this. One of the reasons we refuse to fly.
My phone and laptop are double password protected. Sure it’d be an inconvenience if stolen but the thief would have a couple of nice doorstops.
Reason eleventy bajillion why I never ever check a bag. Everything stays with me. Always.
Yeah, actually, it does...
Here’s a story that’ll blow your socks off.http://www.securoseal.com/main.php?pg=news&news_id=372
The TSA? Bush’s fault.
