Gun sales increase across the state, nation

The trend is not only happening in Texas, but around the nation. The National Shooting Sports Foundation says 11 million firearms were sold in the U.S. in the last year. The FBI also conducted 16.5 million firearm background checks in 2011. That's nearly two million more than in 2010, and double the amount from 2001.

The big question is why? Store owners say gun sales typically increase during an election year, but this year there's more to it.

Went to a gun show today. Gun and ammo prices were up. Last show in January 200 rounds of .308 were $140. Today, $180.

Saw a nice S&W M57. May go back tomorrow and buy it.

But, they go bang about once a minute.

You need to practice. You should be able to pull 4 a minute. Plus if you own bullet molds an old car battery has enough lead in it to make quite few bullets.

The last time I fired a handgun was a good 35 or so years ago when my uncle used to take me to the range to fire his .357. I kid you not, just yesterday I was doing an internet search to find out the process to purchase a handgun in NJ.

I'm thinking I want to be prepared when the SHTF.

Think of all those jobs he's single-handedly created or saved!

Hey, just reading the replies to this thread. Our daughter has a friend / former college classmate whose family went from 30 - over 100 employees in the reloading equipment business since Nov 2008. That gal is now the IT specialist for the company.

One of my favorite guns of all time was a 6 inch model 57. I got it around 1986. I could never tell the difference between it and a model 29 but they say the .41 would hold up better to heavy shooting.

I traded it for more then it was worth but wish I still had it anyway. It was superbly accurate.

I found a SR 22 P I want to order the threaded barrel for it.

I don’t want a silencer, just drive the BATF crazy looking for it.

>>The militia of today would have to fight like people of today. There won’t be a lot of marching in formation going on.

Helmets, body armor, and LBE is necessary for marching?? I thought it was for protection and distribution of weight (i.e. water and magazines). Militia rarely do much marching anyway. That’s the nature of the militia. But, they do need to move and not get wounded.

Yep..it’s a great revolver. The one at the show is nickel, and I would much prefer blued, but apart from that, hmmmm. Going to sleep on it.

The Garands are coming but the M1 Carbines are not - because they have detachable mags - oh the horror.

CMP still has M1 Garands too.

There’s still the .50 BMG, but I’ve a hard time coming up with a reason for a thousand yard weapon when I live in the woods where sixty yards would be a long shot...

One good reason:

It won't matter if they are hiding behind a tree.... even a big one.

Then of course there is the choice of Ball, AP, API, APIT, Incendiary & spotter/tracer ammo.

Fast & Furious was Hussein's program, but his peons got caught in the act when agent Brian Terry was killed.

Has F&F resulted in any gun bans? Nope. It was nothing more than a criminal attempt by the Obama administration to engineer situations that would sway public opinion in favor for gun bans. Obama knows he can't enact gun control legislation otherwise. Americans won't have it. That Holder is not facing prison time for this is beyond comprehension.

If you want to see real gun control legislation, look to 1968, 1986 (Hughes Amendment) and 1994 --and even the 1994 AWB (that cost Democrats control of congress) was largely symbolic in that it grandfathered everything currently in circulation.

F&F doesn't even come close to these actual bans. F&F is nothing more than one of the many testaments to Obama's incompetence and failures of leadership (and that criminal charges aren't being aggressively pursued is further testament to the failures of congressional Republicans).

When an EMP hits, you'll need one of these when the city folks flee like rats in search of your food.

I found a tiny little Taurus .380 for $199 at Academy today. The right stuff, the low price!

You don't go cheap when it's your life in danger. I spend five times that much annually taking training classes.

Plenty of great youtube videos on how to make your own flame thrower from easily acquired components.

The .50 BMG is more like the weapon you want when you need to reach out there for a mile. There are a lot of cheaper ways to say hello at a thousand yards.

I’m looking at a sig probably in 9mm. I have been carrying a little keltec .32 but want something with more stopping power.

I have a few Sigs.

.

My favorite is a P226ST with over 20,000 rounds down the pipe (training mostly).

.

Get a good holster, mag carriers, a sturdy belt and get some professional training.

.

Don't forget to get a few mags for it. Eight is a good start... more is better.

.

Don't forget ammo.

Just went to one of the largest gun stores in the nation. They’ve been real busy lately and things keep on keeping busier. Supplies are once again getting reported in danger of becoming low due to demand. Manufacturers are making more and more but people are outpacing them with their buying.

I am not so afraid that guns will be band as I am that ammunition will get so scarce and expensive that we will just have high priced rocks to defend ourselves.

Get it now before it gets scarce again I started buying it in large quantities when it was still cheap back in 2007.

.

Then I began t roll my own.

.

I can pump out about 400 rounds per hour.

“Ruger Suspends New Orders”

The company’s retailer programs that were offered beginning the first of the year were so successful that through Feb. 29 the firm had received orders for more than a million firearms.
Ruger went right to work to increase production, but the pace of incoming orders exceeded their capacity to fill them. CEO Michael Fifer said the company expects to resume normal acceptance of orders by the end of May. In short, if there’s a Ruger you want and it’s on the shelf of your local gun store, you’d better go get it.
