Newt Gingrich Calls for Universal Right to Bear Arms at NRA Forum "Friday’s Celebration of American Values Leadership forum featured speeches by Mitt Romney, recent contender Rick Santorum, plus conservative stars like former U.N. Ambassador John Bolton, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, and House Majority Leader Eric Cantor. But members of the influential gun lobby today reserved their greatest enthusiasms not for their presumptive nominee Romney, but for Newt Gingrich, a candidate who perseveres to the wonderment of many and the joy of some. .....

The crowd was appreciative of the man who will likely court their votes this fall, but the NRA faithful became far more animated for Gingrich. With his characteristic flourish for sweeping and historical ideas, the former House speaker laid out a guideline for an international gun-rights movement that the NRA’s Cox called “the Gingrich Doctrine.”

“The right to bear arms comes from our creator, not our government,” Gingrich said. The NRA “has been too timid” in promoting its agenda beyond American borders. The Bill of Rights was not written only for Americans, he said. “It is a universal document.”

“A Gingrich presidency will submit to the UN a treaty that extends the right to bear arms as a human right to every person on the planet.” Every world citizen, he said, “deserves the right to defend themselves from those who exploit, imprison, or kill them.” For his latest big idea, Gingrich earned a standing ovation from the crowd of roughly 5,000.

“We don’t need to go across the planet trying to impose American values, but we do need to go across the planet spreading human values,” Gingrich said. “The Second Amendment is a right for all mankind.”......... Full Speech: 2012 NRA Celebration of American Values Leadership Forum - Newt Gingrich

“The right to keep and bear arms comes from our creator, not our government.”

-Newt-

They’ve been on every thread about this speech posted so far, moaning that he’s saying the right comes from the United Nations.

Yes. It's wonten ignorance.

"“A Gingrich presidency will submit to the UN a treaty that extends the right to bear arms as a human right to every person on the planet.” Every world citizen, he said, “deserves the right to defend themselves from those who exploit, imprison, or kill them.” For his latest big idea, Gingrich earned a standing ovation from the crowd of roughly 5,000."

They got it. Imagine! The UN would NEVER vote on such a treaty and if they did all the dictators that control the "UN Human Rights Commission" would vote NO.

“.....“It is not enough to be against the Small Arms Treaty that keeps us physiologically on defense. The time has come to win the following proposition: Far fewer women would be raped, far fewer children would be killed, far fewer towns would be destroyed if people everywhere on the planet had the right to bear arms and far fewer dictators would survive if people had the right to bear arms everywhere on the planet.”

“It isn’t enough to watch people move from one dictatorship to another – to watch Libya, Egypt, Iraq, Syria lurch from disaster to disaster. We should think about people, and we should help people understand that they are endowed by their Creator. And we should say that the Second Amendment is an amendment for all mankind and an amendment which will improve all mankind.”...... Newt Gingrich - April 13, 2012 - NRA Convention.

I don’t want the UN ever telling me what I can or cannot do. They are not a governing body and should never be recognized as such. Any government big enough to give you rights is also big enough to take them away.

When our Founders created America, they wrote about rights that already existed. In no way did they create these rights because they wrote about them. They simply stated the FACT that they exist.

Newt calls on other countries and the United Nations to RECOGNIZE rights in existence already from our CREATOR.

His point to the NRA, now called “the Gingrich Doctrine”, is that what they have claimed as their American right under our founding documents is in FACT a human right...

Challenging them to broaden their conception of this right beyond Americans.

Can you say NRA chapters in other countries?

If you are claiming that Newt said any such thing, you need to read it, and listen to it.

As I just got through writing, Newt said the right to keep and bear arms comes from God our Creator and not from any government.

So you want to interject that Newt believes our right to keep and bear arms comes from the United Nations, simply because he called on the UN to recognize this human right that already exists.

Really??

Read, listen, think, THEN write and speak.

Santorum's exit leaves door open for Mourdock [this analysis *thinks* Santorum supporters (Santorum was in a dead heat with Romney in Indiana before dropping out) will be fired up now and come to the polls in droves and support Mourdock....... Romney supporters like Lugar [but of course]. Santorum's supporters like Mourdock

Reminds me of Mark Levin...all fired up for Mourdock, and Ted Cruz here in TX, and others.

But stopped barely short of calling Newt “delusional” for not following Santorum out the door.

So will Indiana’s Santorum supporters vote for the race exiter, or the race stayer, when they turn out to vote for Mourdock??

The Bill of Rights was not written only for Americans, he said. “It is a universal document.”

Sweet! It's refreshing for someone to think that our values are superior to the rest of the world, rather than the other way around.

Still praying for a Newt miracle!

Newt believes in American Exceptionalism — the concept that the Left despises and the GOP-e dispels.

I hate the United Nations. It’s nothing more than a huge pile of crap in the middle of NYC. I wish it would be run out of this country-—send it to Kenya.

I am voting Lugar out and voting for a brokered convention.

So why is it your business as long as it denies Romney delegates?
