The 18-month-old ginger tabby cat was missing for nearly three weeks before he managed to limp home to Haughley with two broken legs.
Owner Kara Hayward, 38, believes he was injured in a hit and run after going missing on March 11.
The mum-of-three said: “I saw him on the Saturday evening, but he did not come in on the Sunday morning. He had gone out before for about a day or so hunting but he would always be here to wake me up for breakfast.
“On the Sunday afternoon I asked my husband, Paul, if he had seen him but he could not remember. I contacted the local vets on Monday to see if anyone had taken him in, but they had not had anything.

But just when they thought Horace was gone forever, the bleoved cat limped through the door of the family home in Ladyfield on Friday, March 30 - 18 days after he was last seen.
He had lost a lot of weight and was struggling to walk with his two broken legs.
“I saw him trying to walk and I could see that something was not right. What was obvious was that both legs were broken, so I took him to our local vets in Haughley but they said that it just does not happen, cats surviving this long, they would have given him five days, 10 days at most,” said Mrs Hayward.
Horace has now had two operations to fix the two broken legs at Christchurch Veterinary Surgery, in Ipswich.

Poor kitty. I’ve had two in my life and they never had that problem. They were house cats meaning they never left the house.
Glad kitty found its legs...broken or not.
A convincing argument, indeed, for house cats. Our cat never left the house and made it to age 20. Our vet had a house cat that lived to 26.
Poor guy. Hope he heals up okay! And I hope they keep him inside from now on!
I posted the same thing in my #5. Loved our cats but we’re also fans of native songbirds and feed them religiously. The kitties stayed indoors.
Don’t blame the driver. Blame the owner.
Sure if I hit somebody’s cat I would stop and pick it up. But I would not blame anyone for not doing so. You never know how somebody will react to the news that you killed their beloved pet.
If you do love your pet do not let it roam. Keep it home.
A roaming cat is vulnerable to all sorts of danger; other cats, dogs, coyotes, cars, humans with strange hobbies and other things too numerous to mention. Keep your cat home where it is safe. This is also true for dogs.

I just had to euthanize my beautiful cat...Gregio, last night @ 18 years and 2 months old....He was always indoors and healthy and all of a sudden couldn’t walk....The vet thinks he had a clot...I will get his remains in a few weeks):

Your advice is wise. I’d add to it feline leukemia which they can catch from other roaming cats.
I’m a dog person myself, but entertained my husband’s love of cats.
No more cats, and he agrees. Guess he got tired of scooping the litterbox. LOL
We’ve got coyotes lurking right around the edges of my little town. My dogs have free rein of the fenced yard during the day but I keep them in at night. (Jack Russell and a Corgi mix)
LOL cripplecreek. We have such a brazen Raccoon around here he comes up to within twelve feet of the BBQ as I’m grilling Salmon, and stands on his hind legs like one of those “time out” dolls. He leans against the lower branch of a fig tree just watching for me to leave so he can snatch my fish filet.
Quite a large fellow too. Fortunately he seems to understand he isn’t welcome, and leaves after only a short visit.
I need to trap this one and send him to the woods. My Jack Russel caught him the other day and took a pretty good beating.
Can’t blame him for that. But doing pooper patrol in the yard is not much fun either.

Oh my! Sorry about your precious Gregio. They are so much like family. I’m sure your heart is breaking and I feel for you. There’s an empty place now where Gregio was. You were a great friend to him and gave him a wonderful life. That is worth it’s weight in gold. ((Hugs)) to you FRiend. It’s tough, I know.
Good idea. Jack Russells can be fearless which with a coyote would probably mean he gets eaten.
Oh do I know poop patrol. My husband had it easy with the litterbox.
We had a 200 pound Newfoundland, a Belgian Sheepdog and a Lab mix girl. Our little Jack Russell now is heaven!

This is why idiot cat folks should do their animals a favor and keep them indoors. Letting them roam free is not “taking care of them”.

For the last week, we’ve noticed a feral cat coming to our house. He/she has a broken back leg. We’ve tried to trap him for a visit to the vet, but he won’t go into the baited humane trap. The leg doesn’t seem to be infected, even though we originally noticed that it was bloody. Now that a week has gone by, the skin seems to have healed even though he is still limping. Don’t know what else to do. . . called the local cat shelters and don’t seem to have any other suggestions.
Another reason why cats should not be allowed to roam outside. The roads I drive are filled with flat cats whose owners felt it was necessary to let their cats out.........
My cat lived to that age, but was black. All of our black cats come home. The brighter ones don’t seem to live long outside. Next time, try a black cat and see if they survive the outdoors.

Chalk one up for the good happenings in life...!
Totally destroyed the attic. Sitting at the computer one night, I looked up and the attic stairs were descending by themselves. Three fairly large cubs sitting on the stairs had forced them down. Trapped them and hauled them off...they came back. They clawed their way thru the ceiling. I thought I was gonna have to move! They completely terrorized my dogs and cats, as well.
I think the only think that caused them to relocate was the extremely hot summer. I did a lot of anti-raccoon repair work. Although I heard what was probably a raccoon try to reenter during the winter, I don't see any evidence of success.
Beautiful creatures...but they can sure wreak havoc on your property and in your life.
We had a Siamese cat that had the same thing happen, twice. I think it was coyotes both times. That was one tough cat.
Raccoons can be unpredictable and aggressive kinda like a little bear. They can also carry rabies which was my immediate concern with my dog.
I called the vet and she said that my dog should be fine because his shots are up to date and he’s young and healthy. I also sent her a picture of the coon which she said looks exceptionally healthy.
Our cats have all been indoor until we adopted a neglected office cat from across the street. Jackson was an indoor-outdoor cat that the office workers just left out on the weekends to forage for himself. He became best friends with our dog, and Gypsy wouldn’t settle down until Jackson was in for the night. He so loved the outdoors, but would come in to use the litter box if the ground was too wet, and then mew to go back out.
We were always terrified that Jackson would be hit by a car, he roamed all the streets, alleys and railroad right-of ways near our house. We were heartbroken to find that he had passed away under the living room chair at the age of 2 1/2 to 3 years of age, three months after we had formally adopted him, shots, microchipped and city tags. He had been fine when we went to bed, a little sullen because we had not let him out (it was Halloween), but otherwise, fine. We had a necropsy done and the vet determined that Jackaon died of cardio-myopathy, but also had heartworms, although they did not cause his death. We have thanked God more than once for having Jackson die at home, rather than when he was out, and have us never know what happened to him. We did so love that cat.

I leant a friend down the way my trap. He caught the Raccoon he was after with it the other day, and took it for a ride in his pick em up truck to another side of the valley.
He got tired of sitting watching television, looking up at the sliding glass door to the patio, and seeing the Raccoon peering at him. Made him feel rather uneasy being watched by the masked invader.
Hope the Jack Russel is OK, and hopefully he learned a valuable lesson about Raccoons.
Raccoons are nasty little critters - I don’t let them get near our house if I know about it. If I do, they get a bullet or two and then off to the ravine to feed the coyotes (about a half a mile away) - the coyotes are my other nemesis.
I shot one back in January - got him in his right front leg - I was about 80 to 90 feet from him and shot him with a 9mm handgun. Sure wished I had my shotgun with me then. I tracked him in the snow for about an hour until I wised up and realized he was not going to stop to heal and all that was going to happen was I was going to get really seriously tired.

I have hopes to see all my kitties in heaven when I get there!
It always tears me up when a cat gets old and sick and I have to have them put down.
They are like little bears, aren’t they? lol

My 12-year old female had that happen a few years ago, some wild dogs got up on the porch where she and her grandson were sleeping, she broke her leg in two places trying to get away and was missing for days before I found her hiding in the back woods (this in the middle of winter). The vet told us to keep her (and eventually her 10-year old grandson) indoors from then on.
