Obama Camp, Sensing Shift, Bets on a Long Shot in Arizona

PHOENIX — President Obama’s re-election campaign is dispatching workers across Arizona’s college campuses and Latino neighborhoods this spring, registering as many new voters as they can in an organized, three-month effort to determine whether they can put this unlikely state into play for Democrats this November.

By any measure the obstacles are considerable: Arizona has voted for precisely one Democratic president since Truman was in the White House. Yet Mr. Obama’s aides said in interviews that they thought it was possible they could move the needle of history by winning in 2012 a state that analysts believe is heading Democratic in national elections, but may not be there yet.

Obama strategists are simply following the same techniques they used in 2008 when putting states like North Carolina and Indiana into play. Then, too, there was much initial skepticism, though both states ended up going for Mr. Obama.

If he buses in voters he'll have to create a lot of fake IDs...

http://phoenix.about.com/od/citiestownsgovernment/a/voterid.htm

We have to show ID to vote in AZ. Straight off the Maricopa County web page -

14. What forms of identification are required in order to vote at the polls on Election Day?

Information on ID at the polls and the forms of identification required by Proposition 200, which was passed by Arizona voters in 2004, can be accessed by visiting our “ID? I Do! Do You?” button on the bottom right hand side of our main “Election’s Homepage”. On this page, clicking on the “New Voting Requirements” link will open up a list of acceptable forms of identification for the polls.

“We need to have voter registration drives for us... the Constitutionalists.”

Do what we are doing in CO. Do the voter registration drives at gun ranges. Talk the range owners into giving 50% off range fees for a new voter registration, regardless whether it is done at the range.

A couple of weeks ago McCain was on the local Phoenix radio station and he was talking about how AZ was in play. When the host asked him if he really thought the messiah had a chance here, he hemmed and hawed.

I wonder if someone knows more than they are saying about us here in AZ.

Ain’t gonna happen. AZ has very strong voter ID laws. I believe the last time my home state voted RAT during a Presidential election was when Roosevelt was in office.

Desperation?

No, they`re on offense. Yet the GOP wants to nominate the guy with the least appeal of any of the candidates anyway.

I won`t ascribe this to DeMint because he`s been out there pushing conservative causes, but as for much of the rest of the GOP “leaders,” the passion is lacking because their goals don`t include defeating Obama. They`re all about holding onto the House, and if possible, pulling out an ever-so-slight Senate majority.

Which is the reason for nominating the “palatable” Romney.. so as not to infuriate the squishy middle.

Since when is it legal for anyone to go around and “register a voter”???? This should strictly be available ONLY to go directly TO your local town, village or city to register to vote.

Daffy Duck is registered by these “walk around clowns” registering anyone and everything, dead or alive. Walk around the grave yard to gather names of recently dead. Still on voter rolls. ugh.

Actually, it was Clinton.

Those who are saying it can't happen do not remember history.

Here are some reminders:

The governor of the state before Brewer was none other than DHS secretary Napolitano. Napo was elected twice, the second time by a landslide.

Incumbent Republican Senator Jon Kyl won re-election in 2006 with only ~51% of the vote. He will not go for re-election so now the seat is open.

Neighboring states like Colorado and New Mexico are solidly Rat now.

California used to be in play for Republicans until Clinton instituted motor voter in the 90's. The Rats used it to register millions of Hispanics and illegals and they vote about 80%-90% Rat.

The Rats control schools, news media, entertainment so they have a huge advantage among young people.

So they may not be able to pull it off for President this year but the money they spend will also pay off down ticket where the may pick up the Senate. And more House seats after the Pubbies got totally skunked by losing control of the redistricting to the Rats.

As an example of how the Rats out-maneuvered the Pubbies on redistricting, we now have two incumbent Republican Representatives, Schweikert and Quayle, running against each other in the same district.

You would think that a city, county or local government would take this into consideration to keep track of. Sadly, it’s not happening though. As far as anyone registering people, we are not allowed to “register” anyone. You can hand a form, but can’t touch it or take it back to send in. I guarantee you the Acorn types are not following the rules!

Good luck enforcing that with Eric Holder suing you and an injunction on the law issued before the election. Surprise.

It’s a 2004 law and AFAIK it is not affected by the SB1070 lawsuit going on.

It has been used in the last few elections already...
