Obama embarasses US with another geographical gaffe [Vanity]
My Grey Matters | 15 April 2012 | Me

Argentine President Cristina Fernandez, who has insisted without success that Washington recognize its claim to the Falkland Islands controlled by Britain, was one of several presidents who left the summit well before its official closure.

She missed a verbal gaffe by Obama, who referred to the "Maldives" instead of the "Malvinas" when using the name Latin Americans give to the disputed islands.

Will Øbama ever learn anything?

It’s going to be so satisfying when some brave soul exposes the Obamaloon’s sorry academic record for what it really is.

We all know he’s a vapid dork (even dorkier than RINOmney), and that he got into all those schools through crooked associates and slimeball academics.

How are states 51 to 57 leaning in recent polls? A landside for Obama?

Will Øbama ever learn anything?

Viewed with a little sympathy, it easy to see that Obama was afflicted with a difficult childhood, given his parents. As an adolescent and young man, he apparently struggled to understand his place in the world, to establish an identity. It is understandable that he would turn inward and retreat into intellectual fantasies like socialism, and racial politics, it happens. Healthier intellects embrace and engage the world around them, his intellectual training and habits have built up barriers to sheild him from it.

One can have sympathy for a person so afflicted, but you would have to be out of your mind to want him to lead your country. He may be the most intellectually, philosophically, and experientially least qualified president in our nation's history. It could be worse.

Somebody really needs to hack the teleprompter. I have this vision of that scene from “Anchorman.”

I would bet Zero could repeat that scene till it lost its humor.

So he supports Argentina’s claim now?

He probably intended to say "Malvinas" to stick it to the U.K. once again and it came out as "Maldives." "Maldives" is a gaffe of course but "Malvinas" would have been a diplomatic outrage. Either way, what an continuing embarrassment this petty little man is!

He went to Harvard and Columbia? Give me a break!

I know seventh graders who would not have made this mistake.

It's been apparent for a long time that “O” can't read and has never had a grasp of history..... US history or any other history.

Also, you can be sure that cold, hard facts are incidental to a person whose intellect is such a product of emotion/entirely subject to emotion rather than substance.

*** I don’t think that Barry would know what a Malvina is if he tripped over it. ***

:-)
Or he'd think 'Malvina' was some new female (cough) 'rap singer'.

This should answer those Freepers who can't see why the UK wants to keep the Falkland Islands.

Who would want to give them up?

Aren't the Muslims taking over the Maldives?

I think they're putting pressure on the resorts to restrict women's activities such as that shown.

Probably also why it was on Hussein's mind.

At the time of the Monroe Doctrine, Argentina claimed the Falkland Islands but apparently there were no people living on the islands at the time. The British have been in control since the 1830s except for a couple of months in 1982.

If the British could be forced to give up land they have had since the 1830s (which isn't going to happen), that would encourage Mexico to seek the recovery of land it lost in 1848 and 1853. Not that the US would cede Texas, the Mexican Cession lands or the Gadsden Purchase, but it would cause the activists to scream a little louder.
