Yes, Newt’s lifetime ACU rating was 90. Perhaps you misunderstood - I believe Newt is a conservative and I did not believe (and do not) believe that Romney is a conservative. I wasn’t saying that Romney’s record was conservative (Conservapedia did - http://www.conservapedia.com/Mitt_Romney), I was saying that the idea that he was a conservative governor was a joke. I believe Romney was moderate at best.

I read elsewhere that Romney’s ACU rating as governor was 55. I have no idea if that’s true. A few weeks ago, however, the Chairman of the ACU said that “Although former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney has never served in Congress, we have similarly reviewed his gubernatorial record and campaign positions — both of which earn him bona fides as a true conservative.”

Romney has big plans for you and me. For starters, even with all the damage he has done to our nation and our freedom with RomneyCare (ObamaCare) he still loves the little piece of statist/fascism bearing his name and is now setting up a national health care task force to impose it on all 50 states. He still insists that it is a “conservative free-market” program and he refuses to recognize the truth. Well, that’s probably because “truth” is a foreign concept to him, but that’s another story. If RomneyCare is free-market then why does it require government force, mandates and penalties for non-compliance to impose it on us? There is nothing conservative or free-market about RomneyCare or its author.

Romney must think the “con” in conservative stands for conman. He certainly is a flim-flam man. There’s nothing conservative about Romney despite the rhetoric spewing from his big lying mouth. As they say in Texas, he’s all hat and no cattle.

I find that disgusting.

The party ain't the problem.

What the he!!??

The PARTY gives us McCain and tells us to take a pill and support him in the name of conservatism....Then with the greatest chance in history to knock 'em dead with a true conservative to clobber 0bama and retake the Whitehouse they give us Romney and tell us to take a pill and support him.

The party IS the problem and they are going to lose the conservative support before November because of their "our way or the highway" attitude and that will be the death of the GOP once and for all.

Romney is nothing but a lying liberal political hack who is in it for himself and he is attempting to suck every penny he can out of "true" conservatives only to destroy conservatism and most are falling for it like the little suckers they are.

Romney is a guarantee of 4 more years of 0bama and the "suckers" will blame true conservatives for sticking to heir convictions and voting conservative!

What I have always been saying is that the consequences of your actions (or inactions), both short-term and long-term, must be considered together. I still believe that in a race between Romney and Obama, not doing everything you can to defeat Obama results in the most damage to the principles you hold dear.

“but we will at least have another election in 2016. if o is re-elected, this will be our last election, if we even get one this time.”

Look IF you feel you must vote for Romeny...do so. However, quit making bogus claims that Obama will topple our Republic that has stood well over 200 years. Ain’t gonna happen friend. And it is irresponsible to put out such nonsense that somehow Mr. Obama will be able to stop elections in 2016. That is letting an unreasonable fear cloud your good sense.

If you think you should vote for Romeny...like I said...do it. It is your choice to make. However, don’t do it out of an irrational fear. Make a sober clear headed decision.

This is MY opinion and NOT fact:

(1) Mr. Obama will be a total lame duck his second term and will be even more checkmated by the few conservative GOP congressmen there are. Plus, his reelection will cause and even bigger swift in the House and Senate towards conservative members in 2014 like in 2010. He is not liked by the majority of the public, and he won’t have a mandate if reelected.

(2) IF Mr. Romney is elected he will go back fully to being the liberal he is. However, because he has an (R) behind his name, he won’t get much opposition by the GOP congress. Ergo, he is more dangerous because nobody will keep him in line. His placement in office will cause the GOP conservative growth in the House and Senate to decline in 2014. Plus, he will because he is the incumbant, we will be stuck with him running for reelection in 2016, which we will lose. Plus, he won’t be branded a liberal/moderate, the press will call him conservative. Thus, he will sully the meaning of “conservative” setting back years of work to get conservatives elected. His winning is actually more potentially harmful than Obama. Plus, he will not pick conservative judges...he will pick a David Souter.

I know you mean well and I will not denigrate your character, but you are just not right in your fears and assumptions.

Ok.

But I don’t need to know anything about Mormonism to be a Christian (even though I’ve now been told on this thread that I’m not a “serious Christian”,) and yet I also didn’t know anything about “Branch Davidians” either.

Still I’d vote for David Koresh for President before I’d vote for Obama. Because with a 2nd term of Obama, there’s going to be a lot more “stockpilers” set on fire I suspect.

There’s nothing wrong with voting against someone for having the “wrong” faith I guess if that’s the root problem. Just seems like there’s a lot of other reasons to worry about first so that you don’t have to go there.

Obama’s muslim-childhood and anti-American Christian preachers and atheist-mentors give me pause, but there’s thousands of problems with the guy to disqualify him my vote before I have to get to that.

That's an all but certain guarantee. Businessman Romney filed for a Tax extension today, which guarantees his own October surprise...LOL. October 15, 2012 to be precise.

Provided Romney is successful buying the GOP-E nomination, he will have bought it without our support and votes, so he can damn well buy the presidency without our votes and support too.

Sounds like the Lancaster deal is $150 a plate and you can still call 717-392-4165 to get your ticket. Mitt, Rick and Newt will all speak.

Order of Speakers — Though the program order is scheduled to change, at the moment, Gov. Romney is scheduled to speak first. His remarks are scheduled to begin between 7 and 7:15 p.m., with dinner to follow. Sen. Rick Santorum is scheduled to speak following dinner and Speaker Gingrich will close the evening and make himself available in the VIP reception following the event.

ABO. Anybody But Obama

There are 46% of the delegates still to be won in the remaining primaries.

You are posting on a website devoted to conservatism, not the Republican party (unless they are moving in a conservative direction).

The assumption is that you are a conservative or you wouldn't be here.

Jim Robinson just broke it down to you in terms only an idiot could not understand as to why sincere conservatives would never vote for Romney.

And his analysis doesn't even factor in the myriad and consistant lies that Romney tells.

And yet, here you are Promoting Mitt Romney.

What part of the following statement by Jim Robinson don't you understand?

A reminder for those who are not receiving the message:

Romney is a pathological compulsive liar. Lie after lie papered over with more lies. Doesn’t even flinch when caught in bald faced lies, simply tells another big whopper to cover up or dodge the issue. Funny thing, the man actually seems to believe his own latest lies and simply ignores the glaring record of his past actions/lies. And you have true blue establishment elite RINO Republicans like Karl Rove enabling and backing up his lies. Their motivation is simply to hang on to power (and riches) any way they can.

I’ve stated many times since Romney started running for the presidency way back when that I’d never vote for him and I will not. He cannot lie his way out of his decades long record of support for abortion, Roe v Wade, planned parenthood, gay rights, gun control, global warming, amnesty, liberal judges, big government, compulsory or socialized health care (RomneyCommieCare), mandates, Keynesian economics, support and approval of TARP, bailouts, stimulus packages, i.e, every damn liberal progressive issue that comes down the pike.

C’mon. These are the reasons the tea party sprang up and the reasons he and Rove loathe the tea party and our tea party conservative candidates. Romney famously expressed his loathing for Reagan-Bush conservatism several years ago when he was trying to run to the left of Ted Kennedy and now he’s cloaking himself in Reagan conservatism, knowing full well that it’s a lie, but he knows it’s the only way he can possibly win, er buy the Republican nomination.

Screw Romney!! I absolutely will not support or vote for a proven compulsive liar with a known record of abortion and big government socialism, liberal appointments, etc. He still lies about RomneyCommieCare today. Calls it a “conservative solution.” Get real!!

Listen to what Ronald Reagan had to say about the elites pushing socialism on America via compulsory health insurance:

Ronald Reagan speaks out against RomneyCommieCare

There will be no campaign for this Massachusetts liberal liar on FR!!

Party elites and the MSM are using fear. And it’s working. I’m appalled at the defeatism. It’s like we never won the Revolution against great odds. And you can’t win if you don’t fight.

The party didn't make the field weak and didn't make voters split the notRomney vote.

That's flat out not true. The party is the one that went all in for Myth from the get go, with money, their hack consultants and ad men, with media coverage and the punditocracy. Money has been central to Mitt's success, he used the money from the GOPe to outspend Newt and destroy anyone that stood in his way. He will never do to Obama what he did to Newt, Santorum, Perry and Bachmann.

Even more significantly than his money, though was the GOPe's control over the process. Ever since Reagan stole the RNC from the Bush family, the Republican elites have worked desperately to ensure that no conservative could ever possibly wrest the nomination from the elites again. How do they do that? Easy, look at the timing of primaries and the rules for securing delegates. Conservatives, and the GOP in general, are located in the southeast and states like Texas, Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho. There are purple states like Iowa and Ohio. And then there are solidly blue states, like in New England, Minnesota, California, the Pacific Northwest.

What would a party that wanted to field a candidate representative of its values do? Well, it would hold a primary process in which the core of its base was most prominent in choosing the candidate. States like Texas and Alabama would lead the way, both in temporal terms and in terms of the number of delegates awarded. A state like California, that has ZERO chance of voting for the Republican candidate, should not have much say in who the Republican candidate is. A state like Texas, that is GUARANTEED to vote for the Republican, should have an outsized say in who that will be.

But, ever since GHW Bush's loyal service to the Gipper earned him the nomination, and thus control of the RNC, the RNC has diligently worked to ensure that the process is front-loaded with liberal states and with states from the Northeast, where the GOPe has its base. The RNC ensures that delegates from liberal states get the same value as those from conservative states.

This was the case to some extent before Reagan, but not so pronounced, which is why he was able to get through the early primaries and secure the nomination down the road against an RNC that was decidedly against him. He also had some advantages that are not available to candidates today, due to financing laws. He had an independent source of funds and was able to use alternative ways to get his message out, due to his ability to communicate. It would be very difficult to get any conservative nominated today.

Thus, the GOPe has a lock on the nomination. That gave us Bush, Bush, Dole, Bush, Bush, McCain and now, probably, Romney. I said last time that McCain was my last RNC hold my nose vote, and that was only because of Palin. That if the party could not be reformed in a way that allowed a conservative to get the nomination, then the party had to be abandoned by conservatives.

Well, the party has proven that it is not about to allow a conservative to get the nomination. Whatever it takes, the RNC will do it to ensure that the progressive wing of the party gets the nomination. For conservatives, that means that there is no future in the Republican party, at least at the Presidential level, and with Boehner and McConnell running things, at the Congressional level, too. The question is at what point do we dump the RNC. Now, or next time. Or the time after that? Or maybe in 2024?

I decided in 2008 that 2008 was my last vote for a Progressive. I am sticking with that at the Presidential level, and voting solidly Republican down the line. For this election, I am hoping for a third party to rise up. This thread has certainly exposed the reasons why it is needed, and why it has a chance to supplant the GOPe.

Again:

The party didn’t make the field weak and didn’t make voters split the notRomney vote. The party didn’t pull the voting levers. The weak field and lack of unity in opposition got us here.

We need to recruit and develop strong candidates, support them - they need to actually run for office. And we need to unite behind them, get their message out, communicate, educate and convince voters to join, contribute and vote for them. Effective political action.

The party is an apparatus that can be used by whomever organizes and executes most effectively. The party wasn’t a problem under Reagan because Reagan forces took control of the party, bottom up. I watched it happen.

And it happened against strong opposition, entrenched, that had to be pushed aside. Do you think you get to take over without opposition? Is it supposed to be that easy? No, never is when a lot of power is involved.

A weak field, constant infighting, complete lack of any kind of unity...

This won’t work in any party. Won’t work tomorrow if you pick another party or start your own.

The party ain’t the problem. If we owned the party all along this primary, we’d still be where we are now.
