On Friday Gov. Mitt Romney spoke to the National Rifle Association meeting in St. Louis. Just below we are publishing excerpts from that address. Scroll farther down for the full text. Take your pick or read both. As the general election campaign opens, these words are clearly a key part of Romney's philosophical foundation.
Here are the excerpts:
"The framework of law created by the Declaration and the Constitution is the source of our greatness. It has generated unparalleled opportunity and prosperity. Our Founders understood this, which is why they created a system of government that is limited.
"This President is moving us away from our Founders vision. Instead of limited government, he is leading us toward limited freedom and limited opportunity.....
"The Obama administrations assault on our economic freedom is the principal reason why the recovery has been so tepid why it couldnt meet their projections, let alone our expectations.
"The President's assault on economic freedom begins with his tax hikes. By their very nature, taxes reduce our freedom. Their only role in a free economy should be to fund services that are absolutely essential, such as national security, education and the care of those who cannot care for themselves.
"And, yet, President Obama has proposed raising the marginal tax rate from 35% to 40%. The Vice President has proposed a new global business tax. Medical device companies are soon to be subject to a new tax on revenues. And the President is now touring the country, touting a new tax on investment and the wealthy.
"Congress does not need more money to spend; Congress needs to learn to spend less!........

Romney will too.
and Romney won’t?
Almost all conservative voters won’t - and no indies will - read those as Pinocchio quotes.
...and some of us Republicans trying to tag along are gettin’ left behind”!!!
LOL coming from the father of RomneyCare, grandfather of ObamaCare and the guy who believes compulsory health insurance complete with tax penalties for non-compliance is a “conservative free-market” program!!
Romney’s credentials for defending the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness:
Cheney: "This president is an unmitigated disaster."
I know who I'd rather see as the next President ...
Romney: “This President is moving us away from our Founders vision.”
This is a joke right?
Obama has been using Willards playbook since Jan., 20, 2008.
So are you, doofus.
Sadly, I think he thinks he's being serious.
This clown is just another empty suit that looks like a store mannequin. He gets paid by both sides of every special interest, so he can’t answer “unscripted” questions. He won’t be able to do a thing in WH.
LOL! Mitt’s going in for the kill. Used car salesman Mitt knows his ABC’s... Always Be Closing!
Was he pointing at himself in a mirror while he said that?
Choosing the “lesser of evils” is nevetheless choosing evil.
We can only hope that Romney leads like Bill Clinton. (Runs to the front of the parade.) Of course, for that to work, we need conservative control of both houses.
Obama wants to be the founder of the America that follows him.
Standard Dole/McCain/Ford etc lines. Yawn.
I seriously doubt that Romney even understands the Founders’ vision and intentions. He probably should not even speak of the Founders without playing a laugh track.
The Founders had nothing in common with cultists from another planet.
Whooaaa!!!...that’s hitting him hard Mitt!!!
what a joke this guy is.
It’s a COUP, you dumb $hit. Why don’t you grow a pair and call it what it is?
Pot, meet kettle.
I think Bishop Romney is getting the Founding Fathers mixed up with the founder of Mormonism (Joseph Smith). He doens’t care about the founding fathers....he cares more about Joseph Smith who wanted to RULE America. Scary guy!
Funny ... I didn’t know that Obama was a “Christian” LDS member ...
He should talk. Romney’s record in office was about as far away from the Framers’ vision as one can get.
