The man’s yells reverberated through the Metrorail car, breaking the quiet typical of an early-morning ride. I turned down the music on my iPhone. What was that? “[Expletive] the white man!” he screamed again. My fellow Blue Line riders and I looked around uneasily. I couldn’t see the man, but I did note that I seemed to be one of very few white men in the car. Still, I brushed it off. It’s not unusual to encounter crazy behavior while riding Metro. Rarely do things turn serious. As the train arrived at L’Enfant Plaza, I briefly considered switching cars. I didn’t.
I should have.
What happened next is a blur. I remember hearing “Look me in the eyes!” Now the voice was close — too close. I turned. The man had squared up directly in front of me, his face level with mine. I met his rage-filled eyes the moment before he head-butted me. Then his right fist came around in a hook, connecting just above my cheek.
“What are you doing?” was all I could yell, rather lamely, as I shoved him away. He turned his punches toward another victim as other passengers came to our aid. One of them pulled the man’s jacket over his head in a hockey-like maneuver. A woman was pushing the emergency call button. Feeling stunned, I remember wondering: Why isn’t the conductor responding?
So began a series of critical failures by Metro to protect its passengers.

I’ve been menaced by groups of black teens in the metro stations who seem to take great pleasure in frightening old women. The problem is this old woman isn’t playing.
99% of the metro employees that you see are black and frankly, they have no interest helping some whitey.

Whites have had political correctness drilled into their heads for the past 20 years. Blacks, not so much. I sometimes see whites look in shock as their are/have been assaulted and it reminds me of the lack of actions from the Jews in Germany during WW2.

I can relate! For a brief time last year I returned to work in downtown DC after a catastrophic illness (I’m still a little mobility impaired) , and took Metro every morning and every evening. I wasn’t new to the experience having commuted for more than ten years from Maryland and West Virginia. Initially, the commute was tolerable.
Unfortunately, last year’s experience was horrible! Every morning and evening I had to fight with young-obese black women for space on the elevator because the escalators were constantly out-of-order. These women weren’t handicapped, just very fat and lazy! How fat you ask? So fat their thighs applauded the effort when they walked! The women were incredibly rude and obnoxious! I even had one young woman tell me that because the elevator door wouldn’t close that I’d have to get off and wait for the next elevator. I told her to get off, herself!
Then there were the a**holes who tried to cram on a rail car as the doors close, knocking you off your feel or refusing to move to the middle of the car.
Metro is doomed if the crappy service and ugly characters continue their ways!
My first guess would have been the Green line. Second guess would be the Blue from L'Enfant east to Largo Town Center.

This didn’t come out of nowhere. The author’s likely squeamishness pulled it to himself. I’ve been on, probably, every mile of track in the NYC subway system. It is telling that the loudmouth commanded “look me in the eye!” It further telling that the loudmouth got so close with out seeming to be detected by the victim. I had few problems in NY but the few that I did came about when an individual or group mistakenly assessed that I was scared. Look like you OWN the space you take up. If they start in nonetheless CHARGE. Hard. No fooling. Scares the shit out of them.

Exactly. He should never have taken his eyes off of the man and had a plan in place. ( Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everyone you meet.) Last year I was taking BART from San Francisco to Fremont, but had to get off in Oakland to change trains I had been reading my iPad but could view the train car. When I got off, the iPad was in my bag. I saw two black teens signaling each other, looking at me. One probably wanted to sucker punch me from behind so the other could snatch my messenger bag. I made direct eye contact with both of them, pivoting so I could see both, and fingered the SOG tanto knife clipped to my pocket, ready to draw at a moments notice. They looked at each other, realized they couldn’t take me by surprise, and moved down the platform.
The complaint, I note, is about the Metro, its personnel and procedures, and not about the saintly if violent minority.
Or I could shoot the sumbitch until the mag is empty. Either one.
I got stuck in an incident on the Metro with several black teenagers several years back. One, according to his friend, had a gun. I wrote a long letter to Metro describing what happened. They blew it off. DC is a dump. Stay away if you can.
A .44 caliber magnum and a pack of decals shaped like little “Hoodies.” Everytime one is blown away the shooter gets to put a small “Hoodie” decal on their brief case or car door. The goal is the coveted “Blue Hoodie” indicating 21 kills.
It’s not too difficult to profile someone spewing hate at you as someone to avoid at the moment, especially if you are unarmed.
