Opus Time
Vanity Opus

Posted on 04/17/2012 4:47:30 PM PDT by Williams

Well it's been about 13 years forgot my initial sign in name, so pretty much from the beginning.

Never wanted to write a Free Republic Opus, love reading news stories here and commenting every day.

Would rather not go out in anger seems pointless.

Then today the owner of the site called me a RINO (I'm not), surrender monkey (not) and told me to write my opus and get out.

My sin was fighting with someone who suggested Obama losing in the latest poll is "bad news".

I could list all the insanity of what is going on here. I've tried to approach Jim Robinson in email to gently suggest the problems we are facing. It's clear from that he is not interested in discussing and resolving anything, which is a shame.

But what kind of man, American, conservative will I be if I worry more about losing my 12 year old screen name versus standing up to people who are espousing the advisability of reelecting Barack Hussein Obama, and yes if I fail to stand up to the owner of a site for calling me a liberal when I am a proud conservative?

What Jim Robinson is doing cannot work because first of all he is NOT attacking the posters who say it is best to reelect Obama. He's offended by anyone who says he is thereby supporting Obama. But he doesn't mind calling us names when we attack the pro Obamas.

OK folks, it's not going to work. You can't really oppose Obama's reelection if you may also oppose the republican's election.

Free Republic has become a house divided against itself and it cannot stand.

I'm a conservative I love my country, I have to wish away to the cornfield anyone who would assist in the reelection of Obama, from whatever misguided motivations.

I stand with Dick Cheney. The other day I had to fight with someone disparaging Cheney here. They were not criticized by the owner.

Jim Robinson owes me an apology. Not planning on getting one. The sad fact is I am not writing this because I'm offended. It's because I want to no longer assist here in the destruction of my country by those who will, to varying degrees, assist in Obama's reelection.

Six or seven liberals on the Supreme Court? Maybe atomic destruction down the pike after our disarmament. Israel destroyed. 2nd Amendment neutered. Obamacare used to deny people medical care based on age and political beliefs. Racial strife. A welfare socialist state. US attorneys going after republicans.

My wife is a cancer survivor who reasonably fears that in the future they will deny her care because she is a registered republican. And she's no RINO, she hates Obama and she won't read Free Republic stories anymore because of what is going on here.

We have a real country and real lives out here that go beyond Jim Robinson's ill advised name calling against sincere conservatives who dare to disagree with him.

So F anyone who calls me a RINO for standing with Dick Cheney and against Barack Obama. I hate RINO's and I despise misguided so called conservatives who do anything to reelect Obama.

13 years, but it's nothing when put to the wall on my beliefs against the left wing democrat party. I have too many mirrors to look in. The people here who are every day posting that it will be best to reelect Obama, should be thrown off. Instead, well...

It's over.

If anyone other than JR had called you a RINO and etc, would you have teared up and opused out as you are doing?

Man up, pal. So JR unloaded on you? Big deal. I take it this has never happened to you before? Do you want to hear MY encounters with Jim? I’ve had ‘em. Most of us have. But you are quitting over this?

Dude seriously. Put on your big girl panties and keep FReeping. If JR (or me or anyone else) says something to hurt your feelings, DEAL with it.

You know...

If you think about it...

Being called a RINO may be a good thing...

It seems the majority of Republicans aren’t conservative anymore. So if being a Republican means not being conservative I don’t want to be a “Republican” either.

I’m a conservative first, not a Republican first.

I’m an engineer. That means you have to create things the best you can from what is available in the real world. Nothing is perfect and everything is a compromise. You can’t make something that works from components/materials that don’t exist no matter how perfect the result would be.

I also have teenage children. I want them to have a future.

So all that being said. I’m in the “Anybody But Obama” camp.

If that makes me unwelcome here then I’ll take my lumps and go.

...and told me to write my opus ... I'll bet that was rhetorical.

I am hoping that was the case.

We can't have another 4 years of this failed president.

Cafeteria Conservatism: A political variant of actual conservative philosophy that allows one to select conservative ideals as if from an a’lacarte menu and avoid those they don’t like as the situation warrants. Also known as situational ethics. Also known as the root of liberalism.

See also ‘Socks Conservativism’ as in ‘change when needed’.

The Mark Levin Rule is he’d vote for an orange juice can over Obama, and as a conservative will do everything possible to elect the GOP nominee. It’s a good rule.

It might be a good rule, but that's neither here nor there, because Mark Levin himself just threw it out the window by jumping on the Romney train while a real conservative is still in the race.

He can kiss my orange juice can.

It may have been a hotheaded action on Williams part. It’s, of course, foolishness on the part of a forum participant to challenge a forum owner, but haven’t all of us at one time or another gone too far in our words or deeds? May I politely ask that maybe he’s reinstated at some time, after cooling off? I hate to see a longtimer, who has been a good participant, be destroyed here forever for a moments flash of anger.....

You have some very strong principles. And I admire them. But you might be missing the point. It’s one thing to vote for Romney when and IF he is on the ballot. But, and this is the heart of the matter, he hasn’t won the nomination yet. And who Jim or anybody votes for in November is their private business...

We are making a stand with Newt on OUR principles, and beliefs. The RNC knows who their opponent is, they have already put out their first 2 official anti-obama ads. We are not holding up the battle.

We are fighting against all odds, while there is still a moment of choice left. And we are fighting against the GOP establishment as well as their candidate, because if they succeed in doing this, they will be so emboldened by their ability to get the conservatives to support them, they will never again take the wishes of the conservative base seriously - not that they do now anyway.

I just wish you would take your principles, and fervor, and deep beliefs and put them to work for Newt until the nominee is chosen at the convention. Until then, we have a chance. It may looks like the banks of the Delaware right now, but we still have a chance. Join us.

I plan on supporting the official nominee AGAINST Obama. that is a principled choice I am making, and I don’t fault others who are making a different choice. I will certainly, when the time comes, try to persuade them otherwise. But that is then. This is now.

Don't feel like the Lone Stranger. I do NOT want to see 0 bummer have another four years in the white hut. I want to see him in a striped prison uniform, but know that would be the starts of riots this country has never seen in its history.

I despise the current impostor in DC, and want to see him impeached, tried and [well, you can guess the parts of my reply I won't post on the public side]. I was in the military for almost 40 years, and am glad I don't have to serve under this POS another day.

Lived. But like you, I’d rater die on my feet than live knowing I helped wreck my own ideology. And my country.

The extra days they gain will be days of misery when Mitt reverts to type and does the abortion/gun grabbing etc. Without our principles, I don’t think there is a country to save.

Who are you and what have you done with the real Lazamataz?

Real Laz has a heart and a natural affinity towards fellow conservatives, and Williams has been a good participant. It's sad to see someone blow up like that. This is too good a forum to miss out on.

Take a break for awhile. You've seen this sort of thing before. Conservatives are in a rage at the moment that it was so easy for the media and the establishment GOP to foist a candidate on us that so typifies everything we despise in the Democrats, and words get said in heat that are not always meant for the target they end up hitting.

I stopped posting myself for nearly a month when I caught myself starting to scream through the keyboard. It wasn't helping anyone, certainly not me. Best to you.

Well said. I would say, however, that if the FR policy is to oppose the GOP nominee if it is Romney, then it ought to try to turn it into a positive course of action and find some other candidate to get behind, instead of simply being against Romney.

Hard to do, as no one with any hope of winning is running third-party/independent. But that could still change.

On the other hand, I have seen it said (on another, non-political, forum), that compared to Obama, Romney is George Washington. There is some truth to that. Obama is the most anti-American president we’ve had. It’s not even close. He’s also the most inept, idiotic man to sit in the Oval Office. It amazes me that anyone could have voted to elect him in the first place. It absolutely angers me that anyone would even consider voting for him after four years of his incompetence and stupidity (not talking about those opting out of voting GOP, but those liberals who actually still actively support him).

Dude I doubt anyone on this site is going to vote for Obama and I have seen no threads supporting Obama.

Your problem is that you are supporting a leftwing candidate and you expect this website to bend over and do it too. No way. This is a conservative website.

The definition of “conservative” should not be changed to accomodate the GOP nominee’s leftwing ideology. That will be the day this website ceases to be conservative.

Here is the thing.

We are not changing our principles and beliefs just because the GOPe want to nominate a leftwing liar. We are not going to try justifying voting for THAT to be the conservative thing to do. It’s not. There is zero chance of it.

So you are writing your OPUS for the sole reason that conservatives on this website are refusing to vote for a leftist.

Maybe you should think about that.

Think about it really hard.

Do conservatives who want to move this country forward support and vote for LEFTISTS?

Because if Jim Robinson were to relunctantly relent (he won’t), do you know what would happen then?

You and other RINOs would object to anti-Romney articles, call for an end to anti-Romney articles being posted.

Then you and yours would infest pro-life, pro-gun, anti-gay agenda, anti-Individual mandate threads accusing conservatives of being pro-Obama and of propagandizing against Mittens.

There are a thousand forums that will back Romney because of the R, despite being opposed to everything conservative. You are free to go to them, why do you want to turn this conservative website into a party pom-pom waving site?

...

After you throw away your principles and conservatism to elect Romney, then what? You will have no power to move him to the right, you’ve just proven you’ll vote for anything they put on the ballot with an R, you will have no sway.

You will have killed conservatism deader than dead.
