A video of a 17-year-old girl being gang raped spread by cell phones through South Africa on Wednesday, shocking a nation battling an epidemic of violence against women.
The girl was reported missing in late March and was apparently raped last week in the Johannesburg township of Soweto, police said.
Reporters from the tabloid Daily Sun brought the video to the attention of police, who found the girl on Wednesday and began arresting suspects.
"She was found with another man in his house," Warrant Officer Kay Makhubele told the Sapa news agency.
"Obviously she is traumatised and we are going to take her to the doctor now," he said.
The girl has the mental capacity of a four-year-old, according to the Eyewitness News website.
Watching the video is a crime under South Africa's child pornography law.
The Star newspaper reported online that the video lasts 10 minutes and 33 seconds, showing her being raped by seven different males, as she screams: "You are forcing me, you are forcing me."
The video's spread has forced South Africa to confront its staggering incidence of rape. More than 56,000 cases were reported to police last year.

I didn’t make a guess about the victim-could just as likely be either race in South Africa-but I’d bet money the rapists are black.
Yeah, if they could only figure out how to keep the power on without having to pay whites to do the jobs.

The same survey found more than one quarter of South African men admitted to raping a woman or girl.
Rape is part of the African tradition among the native people. You can bet that virtually no South Africans of European decent made up any part of that 25% that admitted to being a rapist. You really have to wonder why any Caucasian people remain in this country. South Africa is doomed to be Zimbabwe in another decade or so (maybe less).
To prey on innocence is pure evil. To know what they were doing and then brag about it...then on top of it all she was mentally impaired...I hope Hell has a special place for sadistic animals like this!
I can’t help seeing the irony in the fact that the widow of the man who wrote the book “Cry The Beloved Country” decrying the evils of apartheid, high-tailed it back to England once post-apartheid society was in full swing. Her husband died too soon to feel the full benefit of the “brave new world” he so wanted to inflict on other whites there. I wonder if he’d be joining Jacob Zuma in a rousing chorus of “kill the white man, kill the Boer”?
This only got our attention because it got put on You Tube. Much worse happens every single day in South Africa, to children, infants, the elderly. You wouldn’t believe some of the atrocities committed because of barbaric superstitions-this in the formerly only truly first world nation on that continent.
How is this shocking unless you haven’t heard anything about South Africa before? It’s not only known for rape, but for baby rape, which is common in all of Africa. It’s a disgusting place.
Seems to be a growing “pattern.” How about we boycott South Africa because of human rights issues?

I just googled “south africa abandoned” images looking for picture of abandoned buildings...
Frankly, I believe that Alan Paton's book was written before the Apartheid policy was even announced--although it might have been about the same time. (The policy, by the way, was never actually fully implemented. Some of what people were busy denouncing, would have been eliminated, had the policy been fully implemented.)

It's kinda hard to leave seeing as they were born there. Where would they go? I have South African friends both black and white. A lot of the whites work overseas because they cannot get jobs there.
