Obama Once Needed 'to Take a Subway or a Bus Just to Find a Fresh Piece of Fruit’ By Penny Starr April 18, 2012

(CNSNews.com) - Barack Obama's vision as president is shaped by the fact that he knows what "it's like to take a subway or a bus just to find a fresh piece of fruit in a grocery store," Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan said last week.

Donovan seemed to be suggesting that the president had once lived in what First Lady Michelle Obama now refers to as a "food desert"--a place without a nearby supermarket. The First Lady has launched an initiative to eliminate these places.

“Why has all this work been such a priority for the president and every one of us in the administration?” Donovan said. “Because he knows what you know: He knows what it’s like to walk the halls of public housing because he’s worked there.”

“He knows what it’s like to walk the streets of some of our cities’ poorest neighborhoods because he’s lived there,” Donovan said. “What it’s like to take a subway or a bus just to find a fresh piece of fruit in a grocery store.”

Donovan also said the president had to “wonder” about whether he could “afford a college education or decent health care” or be “judged” unfairly.

At least he didn't have to walk a mile in the rain for skittles and tea...

Sheesh!

Look into the root cause of that, correct it and food deserts will go away.

Yeah, but probably only temporarily, and not in the way you might think. She'll conclude it's "typical" evil white people conspiring to deprive "hood" residents of fruit, and her solution will be to force merchants to open money losing branches. The idea of changing the behavior of the real sources of the problem would give her the shivers.

"Fresh piece of fruit" is slang for what?

Dat would homo-bonics for seeking underage boys, see also pederasty, 'chickenhawk'.

He's a liar. He lived in a middle class neighborhood and went to a private school from the fifth grade on in Hawaii.

AND...he went to Harvard....which is NOT located on the poor side of town...plenty of access to stores as well.

The Dunhams enrolled "Barry Obama" in the prestigious Punahou School, starting in the fifth grade. He attended Punahou on a scholarship, through the generosity of many donors, and the influence of Stanley Armour's boss, who was a Punahou alum. Obama walked the five blocks from his grandmother's apartment on Beretania to the school.

Typical white granny's bank boss was on the board of Punahou so he had it made scholarshipwise.

Guess what parking lot he had to walk through between home and school every day? The Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women and Children. Yep, he walked past this hospital every day yet can't remember which of the two hospitals he was born at. As if his typical white granny wouldn't have stopped one day on the way to the grocery to buy him a piece of fruit and say, "Look, Barry, that's the room where you were born!"

When my people got here, I think the nearest trading post was a few hundred miles away. They lived. When my wife's people got here (a few thousand years before my ancestors),it was likely a lot farther. They lived, too.

We still don't have buses or subways.

How far do these people want us to bend over backwards?
Until we are on our backs with their boots on our necks and they are confiscating our homes for the good of the state, while herding us into camps. IMHO

Federalize all food Production and Sales. Its the only way to make sure everyone is eating what MOOOOOChelle deems is proper for all us serfs.

He'll have more latitude after his election, or at least that's what he said.

Stalin and the Kulaks come to mind.

How in the world was this nation settled without grocery stores around the corner?

Can a person make a trip to the store and buy groceries for the week? I regularly do that. Maybe it’s unhealthy and I didn’t know it....
