A N.J. bully's punch to the abdomen left a middle school student paralyzed. Now the New Jersey school district that allowed this incident to happen has agreed to pay a $4.2 million to settle a lawsuit from the victim's family.
Sawyer Rosenstein complained to school officials about being repeatedly attacked by a known violent bully at the Eric Smith Middle School. The bully punched Rosenstein in the face a year earlier.
On Feb. 9, 2006, Rosenstein, then 12, emailed school officials asking for help.

Just three months later, he was punched in the abdomen at school on May 16, 2006. He complained of a pain in his back later that day at home.
Two days later his parents heard a scream from his bedroom.
"We picked him up and called an ambulance," the Rosenstein's father told The New Jersey Record. "He hasn't walked since."

I am sure the parents have been punished far more than equity would allow, but, why do parents make their kids go back to schools where they are being bullied?
I wouldn’t go to work if people were hitting me there.
Have the parents of the bully charged with maintaining a public nuisance.
Not asked, nor even referred to, is the question of whether this bullying was an act of “anti-semitism” (if Rosenstein is Jewish).
New Jersey has its share of anti-semites, esp. at Rutgers, Princeton and some smaller colleges.
It would be interesting if someone would do a follow-up on this story as to why Rosenstein was being bullied. Could be just a personality issue or something else.

It doesn’t really take that much to kill or permentally damage someone, as this article proves.
The schools do nothing about this problem. If you complain, they tell you that you are the problem. The teacher’s behaviour actually encourages the bullies to pick on the one kid.
I think the teachers get in a mind set that they are kids them selves. If I go to another school event and hear a teacher or band leader say “These kids are sooooo awsome...”
They seem to adopt the lingo and immaturity of the students they teach and sadly in the case of this poor student do not act like adults when they should.
The headmaster of this school should do five years in jail!
Beat his arse, you are darn right. Wallop him upside the head night and day. Reduce him to tears and don't stop until he is huddled up in the fetal position in the corner of the bathroom...Seriously, that is all bad kids like this understand. You need to beat it out of them.

Ramsey, NJ is a very affluent area.....maybe this happened at a private school. Most of the kids in the Mawah - Ramsey area attend private schools. Just saying.
Bad kids are not capable of learning empathy. They are bad and only understand a whooping. They must learn a conditioned reflex. Do bad get whooped, like a shock reflex. You must recognize there is sometimes only good or evil and no inbetween. The evil must be beat back.
Parents: There are schools soooooo horrific that it would be better for the child to NEVER attend!
Illiterate and innumerate is better than paralyzed.
Illiterate and innumerate can be fixed paralyzed or dead can't.
Society plays mind games with children. They are told that schools are the “real world”. They are told that learning how to deal with bullies is somehow helping them to deal with the “real world”.
Yet....In the real “real world”, adults would win MILLIONS from their employer if subjected to this abuse, and in the real “real world”, adults are free to seek employment elsewhere.
Then....Parents and other adults wonder why teens grow sullen, answer in monosylables, and give them that 20 degree off-centered stare. This is behavior seen in prisoners. And...People wonder why there is a generation gap? Why should teens trust parents and adults who subject them to this institutional abuse?
In another article I read, it said the insurance company settled over the objections of the school district. As with most news articles, that may or may not be true.
