I read the headline and figured a male teacher got caught with a female student after his vasectomy.

Felony charges for a “foolish” teacher? This guy has a screw loose and should never return to any role as an educator. I mean, what if he felt they hadn’t learned their lesson last time using blanks? Public education is adrift and the curriculum so padded with irrelevance that an idiot like this can pass as a teacher.

Blanks can kill someone.

If this person shot a blank at one of my kids he’d pray every day that he was locked in prison till the day I died. Cause I’d have a revolver with 5 blanks and a live round and fire it between 4 to 10 times at his fat chubby face and call it even.

The guy’s lucky that he’s able to even face charges. I have a feeling that, after the initial shock and fear wore off, more than one of this weirdo’s students would have liked to give him a lesson on the error of his ways, so to speak.

I’ve got mixed feelings on punishment. Mostly because I’m not sure what’s going on inside this guy’s noggin. Lining your students up in the classroom and re-enacting the St. Valentine’s Day Massacre isn’t the sort of thing one would normally associate with a stable person. If this guy’s off his nut, which is certainly possible, he needs to be locked up before he loads something stronger than blanks. If, however, the guy is just criminally stupid and has a clean record to this point, maybe a plea agreement with the prosecutor is in order. In either case, this guy should never be allowed in a classroom again.

"Fired off between 4 and 10 rounds"?

Someone better get their attention and teach them to count.

I’m no gun expert, but I was taught that one never points the barrel at anything, unless one plans to destroy that thing. Doesn’t matter whether the gun is loaded, unloaded, or shooting blanks. Assume that the weapon ‘could’ go off at anytime, so always be sure where you are pointing it.

Learned that in Boy Scouts, and from shooting the tip of my finger with a bee-bee pistol. The lesson was worth the pain.

Besides, don’t blanks have a paper wad that gets blown out at high speed?

He was said to have fired from 4-10 times. I figure I’d return the favor. I’d even take the trouble and reload.

Times have changed. I was my science teacher’s favorite (I like science and the outdoors, hunting, fishing, etc. - just like him).

He pulled me aside before class one day when we were doing biology. I agreed to his plan. We were to take our pulse while resting, walking, etc. After about the second time of doing it at rest I started staring out the window, had my feet up on a desk. He asked me why I wasn’t taking my pulse. I mouthed off a bit to him about “this is stupid”. When I mouthed off a second time he sent me out into the hall, where I mouthed off again and he hit the lockers like he was banging me against them.

It escalated from there, he stomped back into the class room, grabbed a gun out of his desk and exclaimed to the class “I’ll take care of him” and then fired a blank into the ground.

Then we BOTH walked in and he said “Okay - everybody take your pulse NOW!”

Well, all except the girl than ran past us as she saw the gun or heard the shot to get the principal.

Nobody got in trouble. Stupid I suppose - but we ALL did a lot of stupid (and fun!) things back then without having to worry about stuff.

Yes - or plastic ones. Every once in awhile some kid will goof off and pretend suicide - and I have heard of them accidently killing themselves when the wad goes through their skull.

From wikipedia:

On October 12, 1984, the cast and crew of Cover Up were filming the seventh episode of the series, “Golden Opportunity,” on Stage 17 of the 20th Century Fox lot. One of the scenes filmed that day called for Hexum’s character to load blanks into a .44 Magnum handgun.

When the scene did not play as the director wanted it to play in the master shot, there was a delay in filming. Hexum became restless and impatient during the delay and began playing around to lighten the mood. Apparently, he had unloaded all but one (blank) round, spun it, and in what would appear to be a game of Russian roulette, at 5:15 p.m., he put the revolver to his right temple and pulled the trigger.[6]

Hexum was apparently unaware that his actions were dangerous. Blanks use paper or plastic wadding to seal gun powder into the cartridge, and this wadding is propelled from the barrel of the gun with enough force to cause severe injury or death if the weapon is fired within a few inches of the body, especially if pointed at a particularly vulnerable spot, such as the temple or the eye.

Although the paper wadding in the blank that Hexum discharged did not penetrate his skull, the wad struck him in the temple with enough blunt force trauma to shatter a quarter-sized piece of his skull and propel the pieces into his brain, causing massive hemorrhaging.[1][7]

12 students and none of them took action against the teacher. The lesson to be learned by these students is that you don’t stand about and meekly watch your peers get shot at.

1 - You don’t know the gun is shooting blanks.

2 - You don’t stand around awaiting your turn.

There’s only one problem....The “gun” in question is not a firearm, it is a replica that fires 8mm blanks and therefore he cannot be charged with brandishing a firearm. Under the ATF, these blank firing guns cannot be used to shoot any projectile at all because the barrels are inoperable due to a welded “blaze red” plug inside a the barrel. They are sold as novelties or as a means of a deterrent for those who do not want to carry the real thing. You people should know better than to trust the MSM for junk news like this. :/

“Not a firearm. No Federal license required. Barrels are permanently plugged in compliance with Federal law. Cannot fire real ammunition” http://www.blank-guns-depot.com/blank-firing-guns-store/catalog/Modern-Blank-Guns-p-1-c-384.html

Amen, that is indeed the lesson.
Different times - Different students.
Had our shop teacher tried this stuff, which he would not have, there would have quickly been a screw-driver up his gut or a hammer smashing into his head.
This kind of thing would not even been contemplated back in the day - late '60s.

And, ironic as it is, our teacher, Mr. Henis, was known to carry a .38 Chiefs Special in his right front pocket sometimes.
Nobody ever questioned him about it. He taught auto shop and drivers ed. Nicest guy you'd ever want to meet.

He damn sure would never pull a stunt like this.
