Santorum's Ala. delegates will unite with nominee IF..... Ala. GOP Chair warns Newt against division
Real Clear Politics ^ | April 20, 2012 | Phillip Rawls

Rick Santorum, the winner of Alabama's Republican presidential primary, hasn't released his 22 Alabama delegates to support another candidate, but delegates said they expect to unite behind Mitt Romney if he locks up the GOP nomination.

....Santorum won Alabama's GOP primary March 13, picking up 22 delegates, compared with 13 for Newt Gingrich and 12 for Romney.

Even though Santorum has suspended his campaign, the rules of the Alabama Republican Party bind his delegates to him until he releases them.

Dean participated in a conference call with Santorum on Monday, during which the former Pennsylvania senator told delegates he has no immediate plans to release them. Dean said Santorum is hanging on to the delegates for now to make sure conservative principles play an important role at the Republican National Convention in late August.

Delegate Tom Powers of Clanton said that if Romney gets the 1,144 delegates needed to secure the nomination before the August convention, he expects Santorum to release his Alabama delegates and encourage everyone to give Romney a 100 percent vote in Tampa, Fla.

Delegate Tripp Skipper of Anniston, an aide to Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers, said that even though Santorum was his first choice, Romney appears to be the presumptive nominee.

"I'd much rather have Governor Romney as president than President Obama," Skipper said.

State Party Chairman Bill Armistead said it was obvious that Romney would win the nomination. He said some of Santorum's supporters in Alabama are already helping Romney's campaign, and he expects more to come on board.

Gingrich is still seeking the nomination and has his 13 Alabama delegates. Armistead said he hopes Gingrich won't become divisive because "there is no path to victory for him to get the nomination."

Next in line is Jeb Bush.

Don’t think anything Santorum does can change that.

But he might not KNOW that...

Then George P. Bush will be groomed (is being groomed) for his turn at the White House. It really is too much.

"Yes.

Mitt can’t win on his merits but has the money and the morals needed to bury his conservative opposition — and the nerve to declare himself the nominee.

But he is not there yet......

Right on! Or as my wife just said, "so true. So true."

“State Party Chairman Bill Armistead said it was obvious that Romney would win the nomination.”

Again, about the only benefit of this primary season is that the GOP-e has to reveal its existence, and be named in order to support their liberal. The enemy within is as dangerous as the enemy without...

The gop/e needs to be destroyed... or maybe even the entire gop machine. Are you romney-bots proud of YOUR party?

FREEDOM IS NOT FREE! I would rather fight now politically to destroy these IDEAL traitors, than HAVE to fight later with blood to keep this country what it was founded on!

Well said!

We must fight NOW for NEWT! Mitt/GOP E wants to instill doubt/propaganda - resist it and it will flee. We only have NOW or fight for the next four years. Don't be suckered into their ABO mantra - used to make the weak settle.

Here we go again, hold your nose mentality.

Sure beats another four of obama mentality. I'm all for sending a message to the GOP-e - but this is not the election to take that risk.

The rnc is showing in brilliant clarity why the republican party is a party of losers and has been since Reagan left office. I have nothing in common with the gop leadership... I am hated equally by the gop/e and the communists. You republicans think about that.

I think more so. The enemy outside makes itself apparent. It takes awhile for too many to see the enemy inside because they are hanging onto disbelief that they have been duped. But the time they wake up, it's all over.

Newt was the ONLY candidate to ever be considered to lead our country and beat Barry. How many were duped otherwise?!

The problem is... the election that you allude to never comes to pass. I spent the last few elections spreading this false wisdom that you are promoting. Some of us are not buying this fertilizer any longer.

Old mama Bush is the opposite of Sarah in every way - she’s like a domineering mother with her broom in her hand saying ‘stay away from my boys ‘inheritance’. The ‘elite’ in all it’s glory - this country is mine!

There will be no 2016 and those who have allowed themselves to be duped now would be duped in 2016 anyway. They didn’t listen now when it was most obvious because they just ‘wanted to believe what they heard’. You can’t penetrate an unteachable spirit.

The RNC has screwed this up royally and they’re blaming us for their misguided, arrogant actions.
The funniest thing about all of this is that the RNC still doesn't realize that people are pointing at them and laughing in their face.

I bet they see nothing wrong with Rick trying to stay ‘relevant” after making himself as irrelevant as one can be.

Santorum won 11 states. How many did Newt win? Oh, that’s right: one.

Rick will do what is right for Conservatives.
Newt is in this for his own self serving purposes and has become the greatest spoiler of the primary season.

He has as much chance of winning as my dog. Actually my dog has less baggage.

"It means Republican voters in North Carolina are in the mood to cause an upheaval — to tell the national news media that primary voters and not a lot of elitist liberals will pick our party’s nominee.” ~ Haley, Newt's new grassroots coordinator.

This is getting scary! RNC establishment strategy: Publish no poll numbers; spread the word that Romney is the nominee; have people vote based on blackout and misinformation expecting Romney to win big; then hit hard with Romney’s wins and Newt’s losses to bully Newt into dropping.

Please do yourself the honor of reviewing actual polls by doing a Google search for “2012 Republican presidential polls (name state)” and you will see why the RNC is using this tactic. Then spread the word!

Obama with the dem-media complex, millions of dollars, sycophants everywhere in the media, versus Mitt Romney with the entire conservative media capitulated behind him, his millions, and NEWTON LEROY GINGRICH is only 7 points behind Obama in the lastest Rasmussen tracking?

General gingrich polling

Obama is only 5 points ahead of Romney in Florida...

Ah, opinions. You just have to love them, even when they're presumptive.
