Politics: Perhaps Democrats know something the rest of us don't about Barack Obama's political fortunes. What else explains the increasing numbers who are openly defying the president on two key election issues?
The notoriously thin-skinned Obama could not have been happy with the news last week that, as the Hill newspaper put it, "an increasing number of Democrats are taking potshots at President Obama's health care law."
North Carolina's Brad Miller, who voted for the law, now laments that "we would all have been better off" if Congress had dealt with more pressing issues "and then came back to health care."
Barney Frank complained that the Democrats "paid a terrible price for health care." And Virginia's outgoing Sen. Jim Webb said the law would be Obama's "biggest downside" in the election and had cost him "a lot of credibility as a leader."
Meanwhile, stalwart Massachusetts liberal Elizabeth Warren is now calling to repeal a piece of ObamaCare the 2.3% tax on medical devices because, she says, it "disproportionately impacts the small companies with the narrowest financial margins."
Warren, by the way, is running for the Senate seat occupied by Republican Scott Brown, whose victory in 2010 was a result of the public's intense opposition...
--snip--
This fear is even more evident when you look at the growing opposition among Democrats to Obama's position on the Keystone XL pipeline.
Obama may have thought he'd cleverly handled the issue by putting it off until next year, and that no one would think to defy his veto threats.
But when Republicans called his bluff with a bill to force a start on construction, 69 Democrats rushed to join them, giving the House bill a veto-proof majority. The Senate bill is just a vote or two away from overcoming a Democratic filibuster...

It's so appropriate for the rats!
Anyone who voted for that piece of crap needs to get run out of town-- period, no excuses.
Democrats only jump ship when it’s too late for all of us.
I don’t believe a word of it.......
This is just CYA
Those jumping ship are probably in a quabdry as to how to get elected after screwing over their constituents and voting for this crap bill.
Not Sen. Jim Webb! He decided not to run for a second term.
The “I stood up to Obama” cover.
I’m disappointed by supposed conservatives that vote for Rats for local office. Saying it doesn’t matter at that level.
Stop the Rats at every level. Don’t vote for a dogcatcher Rat.
great. soon they’ll be demanding life boats.
They jump ship when it’s politically necessary for them. It’s always good news for conservatives.

There's only enough life boats for half of them./I
great. soon theyll be demanding life boats.
Let’s hope there aren’t enough.
Demonrats doing damage control. I don’t believe it either!
I thought the Democrats had that wrapped up for the next 100 years, didn't you?
Obama doesn't think it's wrapped up.
I expect he'll be campaigning for the black vote within 3 months.
I’m not buying it either. But I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but even if owebamacare is repealed, it’s too late for our country and especially our economy.
As an aside, I know several people that own small business and they are all either already out of business or about to be. The regulations, taxes and various hoops they have to jump through, with most coming at the local level, are killing business.
It’s going to take a decade or more for America to dig out of this hole, and that is if there is decent leadership and the media realizes they aren’t as smart as they thought. None of which is likely.
Not only won't there be enough, the ones they have won't be completely filled.
Among the rats, Akaka, Bingaman, Conrad, Kohl, Lieberman, who caucuses with them, and Ben Nelson have decided to retire too.
Perhaps, but he voted for it in his first term didn’t he?

Yes he voted for it, and now due to his unpopularity, he’s not running for reelection. Also, he won in a rather dubious fashion in 2006.

Wow...I had no idea that Eeyore posted on FreeRepublic. How kewl is that!
Also Brad Miller quoted in the article is not running.
So what’s up with that?

Are you of the opinion that electing a republican to POTUS is going to “fix” things?
Yes, along with taking the Senate and increasing our majority in the House. These things are very likely to happen. If Obama and the Dems were confident of their chances, they would be running on their record. They've been running on everything but their record.
Who’s going to be voted out of office? Poor idiots. They are going to lose their jobs. The writing is on the wall.
White, black, thin - doesn't really matter. He sucks. You know it. He knows it. The American people know it.
I hope you are right. But the truth is, we’re getting Romney and that doesn’t bode well for Republican success at the POTUS level. I said the day after Obama won in 08 that Romney would be “next.” I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news as I said, but the fix is in.
The government is a leviathan that will only grow larger, even under the repubs. Government growing larger means the significance and influence of the individual is diminshed.
Romney or obama will continue to grow government, place less emphasis on the individual (socialism) and destroy our God given rights. Be prepared to live inder U.N. and international law, or else. Sorry to be so pessimistic, but even if the pubbies take the senate and hold congress, they will blow it again. Sigh...
Well there is no difference between Soetoro and Mittens. The ‘Rats know Socialism will march on and they can run pretending to be Conservatives. The game is RIGGED.
These Democrats better be worried. Dick Lugar is in a big fight to retain his seat, and Orrin Hatch has to run in a Primary in Utah. We need to clean out the “old guard” of Liberal Republicans, then go after the Democrats.
Oh please. Do NOT get suckered in. It’s just political expediency. Look where they are running.
I look at that pic, of 0bama, nearly as white as the security guy behind him, except for his head, neck and arms below the elbow, and I bow my head in shame. I am even ashamed for those Blacks who thought he was one of their own.
It is very difficult to think of 0bama heading up so many people who are so desperately trying to destroy the fabric, culture and economy of this country. Look at him. Look at his expression and the way he appears to be walking.
And he is proud of what he has done and is doing.
Look at him. Just look at him.
Amen. If it had somehow survived (Obamacare), these same assholes would be crowing about their unwavering support, how compassionate they are, etc., etc., ad nauseum.
God how I loathe politicians.
“White, black, thin - doesn’t really matter.”
So, you’re saying the old media could use the Zimmerman honkification algorithm on him. And he would still suck?
Each of those quoted Dems has already announced he’s not seeking re-election. They probably realize how any effort at re-election would have gone for them an are bowing out somewhat quietly, with some potshots at BHO. Maybe instead of CYA, these are like deathbed confessions?

Nice tan line.
Wow - so I guess the truth finally comes out.
Everyone hates Obamacare - but they’re going to try to force it on us anyway.
Another day in Obamaland....
I would agree that the government has continued to grow larger, but thank God their are serious conservatives offering serious plans to CUT spending and pay down the debt. Paul Ryan comes to mind. To accomplish this, we're going to have to vote out establishment types like McConnell, Boehner, and Hatch. Speaking of which, things aren't looking too good for our Senator Hatch. He thought he's was just going to skate into his next term. Well, it looks like he has a serious primary challenger in Dan Liljenquist (Strong Constitutionalist). Not sure who's going to win this, but this was very encouraging to folks like me who want to see RINOS, and old “Go along to get along” Republicans sent out to pasture.
So, I guess it's safe to say that you won't be voting in the presidential race if Romney is the GOP nominee? I, along with the likes of Rush, Levin, Palin and others will vote for whichever GOP candidate wins the primary. While I'm pi$$ed to have to potentially vote for Romney, at least he doesn't hate the country, capitalism, or our allies.
If I held the same belief as you, that our nation is doomed no matter what, I would not be able to get out of bed in the morning.
But hey, if this outlook floats your boat, who am I to try and convince you otherwise?
I’m betting that Kagan and or Sotomayor or both let on to Buckwheat that Obamacare is toast at the SC.
As demo rats run away from Obama, the ABR run to Obama. Amazing.
From what I've gathered, images of the half-nekkid rookie Hussein were banned soon after this photo was taken. Getting the truth out seems to be very difficult.
“Stop the Rats at every level.....”
Yes. Little rats become BIG RATS.
OMG(OSH)!! He’s a WHITE man with a farmer’s tan!!!! (Bet his hands are not calloused, though.)
A farmer with a watch.
I'm thinkin' most of that makeup washed off as soon as the rookie Hussein hit the surf.
