Very recently, yes. They used the 870 from WWI to Gulf War I and a little later.

I recommend number 1 shot, as it will penetrate to the back of a man, where the spinal chord is likely to reside Just make sure the thief you have in your sights is not one of our esteemed GOP Senators (reaching across the aisle) or about half the GOP House. In that case you are unlikely to hit any spine.
Did you ever see what #1 shot does to a bowl of jello?

I have a Wingmaster 870 and 2 1100s and have never had an accidental discharge with any of them.
I do love my Benelli M3 Super 90 as well ;)

There's a YouTube vid of some woman firing one with a pistol grip...barrel recoil swung up & back hitting her in the head! LOL!

For home defense, I am going with something shorter, plus it holds 14+1. The Kel-Tec KSG:

Let's not forget that NBC News main claim to fame is the fact they lie. And they love to sensationalize their anti-gun claims, even if it leads to the deaths of police officers, as they did back in the day with NBC's stories about "cop killer bullets."

Did NBC use a model rocket motor to cause the shotgun to fire?
Just wondering.

Well, I have never heard of such a thing. Now I want one.
Can civilians buy one?

I own a Mossberg 500 love it..there are a bunch of accessories you can get for it but I don't need any...

I don’t think I’d use anything heavier than turkey shot with a pistol grip.

I have an 870 thats at least 40 yrs old and hasn’t seen a shell in at least 20. I might see an accidental discharge if I put a shell in it as the firing pin is probably no longer floating but fixed.
Which is why I don’t plan to load it until I get it to the gunsmith.

For home defense, I am going with something shorter, plus it holds 14+1. The Kel-Tec KSG: Great versatility, w/2 magazine tubes you can fill one w/7 slugs and the other w/7 buck and switch back and forth as needed. Bad news, I just ordered one and was told there were customers ahead of me and their wait looked like it might be close to a year. I've heard that Kel-Tec does this a lot, introduces some brand-new wiz-bang new technology firearm, then fiddles around for several years getting production on-line.
If you don't mind my asking what were you quoted for price? There is an automatic that was just introduced (not Kel-Tec) w/a four tube rotating magazine (manual) for SRP over $2300. That seems kinda high given that the tubes only hold 4 rounds and you index them by hand.

GtG

I have an 1100 12 gauge. It doesn't shoot itself, you have to pull the trigger. A couple of times an ejected shell has gotten caught in the action, preventing the next shell to load. Just pull it out and back in business. Since I follow the “one shot, one kill” principle, it's not a factor anyway.

Good choice. Either that or the equivalent 870, it’s pretty much a coin toss from what I can tell.

I have tried a pistol grip on a Mossberg 500 12 ga. Even with #4 shot it tries to separate your thumb from the rest of your hand. Standard stock went back on...
To: oh8eleven
If it has a plastic safety catch, have a gunsmith replace it with a metal one. That’s about the only weakness of the 500.
