FREEPER COMMENTS REQUESTED: Is it just me, or is Mary Matalin way off base today with her entire theme for the show (guest hosting for Rush). Now I normally like her work tremendously, but her idea that we should search for "virtue" in government and for "virtuous people" to be in government seems extremely naive.
The only virtue in government is its limit. We will never get a government full of virtuous people. By definition, government is power and virtuous people are not drawn to that. Our Founders knew that. This is why they insisted on LIMITED government. Wake up Mary!
Absolutely wrong. What you read is produced by the government class, aka parasites.
Please go back and read the writings of our Founders. What they wanted most was a very weak Federal government. They knew that less government is more Liberty, more government is less Liberty
It is truly that simple. Our Founders knew that the most vile, the most theiving, the most sadistic and controlling among us would be attracted to government. Our Founders had no illusion about the type of people that want to "serve."
ALL our problems will remain as long as the Federal government is maintained at it's monstrous size. No amount of "ethic rules" and regulations will change anything. The government parasite class must be have their pretend jobs terminated so they can for once in their life do real work.
It's not just you. I don't think there's any doubt that Rush has lost the passion for what he does. Per my observations (and I've been listening to him for well over a decade), he's simply 'phoning it in' nowadays. He gets most of his material straight off Drudge, and ignores or pays lip service to the most structurally important stories of the day.
Like most conservative talkers, he's completely missed the fact that the center-right in this country is now in a state of quiet rebellion, and that they're like a dry prairie, just primed for the right spark to ignite.
No, they're still stuck in the 'business as usual' mode of partisan politics. They don't seem to have noticed that we're nearly on the verge of another revolution in this country. Even as the pillars that support our once mighty republic are crumbling all around them, they sit in their electronic ivory towers pontificating about everything but what truly matters.
It’s a James Q Wilson thing - and it’s got merit. Right now the folks who run for office tend toward the narcissistic. We need people of more substance and virtue. The system we have propels a certain type forward - and it’s not the type we’re happy with. Incentives need to be changed so we get more Thomas Jefferson’s and fewer Jimmah Carters...

Only virtuous people will willingly give up power (e.g. George Washington), so in order for government to give up the power needed to become “limited government”, we need virtuous people who will make those decisions.
Limited power in government can only come from virtuous persons deciding to reduce the power of the positions that they are in.
Limited government will never occur without virtuous people in power.

I'm afraid it might say more about Clear Channel's and Premiere's (Rush's syndicator) political views. Early on in the primaries, Rush said a couple of times that he thought Mitt was definitely the one Obama was counting on running against, that the whole OWS 1.0 was just a warm-up for running against Mitt. But Rush hasn't gone with that insight in months; in fact, he's seemed to largely avoid talking about the upcoming election.

Could we agree that the Founders quoted throughout this thread must have believed that the kind of "virtue" they described is a prerequisite for even the limiting of the government? Could we not submit the current President's "We Can't Wait" strategy described in another thread today as evidence of their wisdom and foresight?
When we elect officials who are determined to ignore "the People's" limits, as specified in their Constitution, then liberty is threatened. America's Founders knew that "parchment barriers" (written constitutional limits) would be insufficient, if the elected officials did not possess "virtue" and honor for those written limitations.
You have performed a valuable service by raising this as a discussion point. All of us here are going after the same prize, I believe--restoring America's greatness, and without virtuous leaders who respect our Constitution's limits on their power, we may not be able to achieve our purpose.

It is a good move on the part of Rinos. They are addressing corruption in government in a positive way.
Unfortunately it is in support of the “virtuous” Mittens who wants to reorganize family and marriage around the gay sex lifestyle. There is nothing virtuous about the gay sex scene nor putting children in the middle of it.
