Bill Lee Jr., who had stepped aside as Sanford, Fla.'s police chief during the investigation of the shooting of unarmed African American teenager Trayvon Martin, has officially resigned as the communitys top cop, a city commissioner said Monday.
Commissioner Patty Mahany said the chief submitted his resignation over the weekend; Lee temporarily left his post last month amid complaints about how his department handled the investigation of the Feb. 26 shooting. The city commission is scheduled to hold a special meeting late Monday afternoon to discuss Lee's severance package, Mahany said.
"Elected officials used this man as a scapegoat to heal our community," she said in a telephone interview with the Los Angeles Times. "Our community was never broken."
Mahany, who had supported Lee during the political furor over his departments investigation, called the resignation a "terrible tragedy." She said she blamed civil rights activists whose protests "ruined the reputation and career of a really stellar law enforcement officer."
Lee "is nothing but a scapegoat," Mahany said. "Our police department did nothing wrong."

"The city has experienced great turmoil in the past two months and we are hoping to stabilise the department and continue with this time of healing, City manager Norton Bonaparte said, in a statement."

Of course the city could heal faster if you ran off the race hustlers!
Martin family lawyer is playing mind games....”Hell if you do and hell if you don’t”
He said they were upset. We didn’t hear from the family....and when we did hear from the mother, then the lawyer said she didn’t say or mean what she said.
He’s a shyster if there ever was one. Hope he crosses the line so the Martins can sue him for malpractice.
Hid big mistake was stepping down “temporarily” in the first place.
All the cops on the force should come down with a bad and prolonged case of “blue flu”.
This is really scary. All they have to do is “threaten” to riot and they get whatever they want. It started years ago when republicans, who wanted to stay in office so bad they’d do anything to get re-elected, refused to stand up to being called racists.
It should be noted that Chief Lee had more years (27) as a county level homicide investigator than either of the two so-called investigators who signed the probable cause affidavit on Zimmerman.
Hid should be His.....though Hid seems to work.
Can anyone help me find a schedule of recommended bail amounts for Florida for various crimes? I’m arguing with an O-bot on Facebook who thinks that Zimmerman got special treatment in his bail amount. Of course I’m arguing that he has been completely cooperative, so that factors in to lowering his bail, but I want to find something for Seminole County specifically if possible that says what their bail amounts are. The only thing I’ve been able to find so far is an order from Belvin Perry that says that bail at first appearance will not be granted for 2nd degree murder, but that is strictly related to first appearances. I cannot find a recommended schedule for various crimes.

Many folks think my screen name means that I am from Florida... I am not, and I am sorry that I don’t know the answer to your question..
Haha - I didn’t even notice your screen name. If I had, I would have made like a good Seminole and said something mildly insulting. ;)
I’m from Florida and can’t find that info anywhere. Maybe it’s completely up to the judge’s discretion here.
In my state, they work from a bail/bond schedule, but the judge still has wide discretion. I wonder if that info is online with the court of jurisdiction?
Good luck.....
Such a shame so many victims of Reverend’s Al and Jessie they ought to be run out on a rail themselves.
Patty gets her wish. Chief keeps his job.
